Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 10: FOOD FOR THE ROC

After days of flying, King Aerobis grew tired.

"I can go no further Geed, I must return to Windia to recharge" King Aerobis said as he put them down and flew away.

"At this rate, it'll take forever to find Marinea" Alice complained.

"Don't be so worried of the distance. Are you aware how many scavengers wander these lands? We could be food for any of them" Diane cautioned.

Suddenly, a huge bird flying in the sky spotted them. This bird, the Roc had been searching for food for its chicks. It had finally found it or so it thought as it swooped down from the skies and snatched the four friends from the ground. It took the friends higher and higher to its nest high in the mountains.

"Oh the humanity! We only barely escaped the Golem just to end up food for a freak giant bird!" Geed complained.

Finally, at the top of the mountain, the bird dropped them in its nest. Immediately they were in the nest, the chicks attempted to tear them apart.

"ENOUGH!" Geed yelled pushing the chicks away with a gust of wind. "This is ridiculous. At this rate, we'll never find Marinea" he said. "When I woke up this morning, all I had to worry about was reading a bunch of books about the Magi, now I have to worry about being food for a bunch of freak birds! This is just great!" Geed complained. "But there's no way I'm sitting around for the main course of the meal!" he said.

"What are you implying?" Alice asked.

"We jump" Geed replied.

"JUMP?! The hot air of Subterranea must have fried your brains" Alice said.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you" Geed said.

"Gee, I'm feeling better already" Alice muttered in sarcasm.

At this, Geed knocked her back and she went overboard. Then Taros and Geed jumped down. They screamed as they fell through what felt like an eternity. Geed created a Wind Glider and caught Alice, Taros and Diane in it. They glided on towards Marinea. They were spotted once again by the Roc and this time, it was really angry at having lost its prey. The gigantic bird charged angrily at them. The companions easily dodged its first attack. Alice shot a beam of fire at the bird. The bird easily evaded the flames. Diane shot rocks simultaneously at the bird. The rocks seemed to have no effect. Geed turned around and shot a huge beam of fire and wind at the bird. The mingled elements scorched it and burnt its wings. The creature collapsed to the ground in a crumpled heap.

"Oh yeah, you'll think twice before taking us prey next time" Geed shouted. "Whoo! That was amazing!"

Alice looked angrily at him.

"What?" Geed asked in ignorance.

"You…you lied to me didn't you? Everything you told me from the very first day we met was a lie. Geed didn't die" Alice said as tears began to fill her eyes.

"I don't want to remember" Geed said.

"But that doesn't give you the right to lie. It's you…you are Geed" Alice said.

"I said I don't want to talk about it!" Geed burst out.

"Fine! 'Cause I'm not talking to you!" Alice retorted angrily.

"What's with those two? Sometimes they are unbearable towards each other" Taros commented.

"But you'll be shocked what they have in common" Diane said thoughtfully.

"Why Geed? Why did you have to lie to me?" Alice questioned amidst tears. "I know the pain was great but you didn't need to cover it up by lying" Alice said.

"Fine, you want to know the truth? I am Geed okay? Now are you satisfied?!" Geed burst out.

"You're unbelievable! I hate you!" Alice burst out.

"Fine then, I'll play the despicable villain! It's not like I haven't been treated that way before" Geed said.

"Oh boy, here they go again" Taros commented. "It's amazing how many times these two can quarrel in a day" he said.
