Chapter 38 - Harvest week (part 2)

The women and children started pulling off their clothes to take a bath in the river.

Zahra and Nubia just sat in their carriages looking at everyone like it was the first time they were seeing something like that.

Kissa could say for Nubia but Zahra had always been there since she was born since she was a commoner before her brother stole the throne.

"You two should also take a bath. It's a ritual bath for all females, young and old, royal and commoners." Kissa said with her arm folded across her chest.

"And why are you not in there, taking a bath?" Zahra asked and Kissa rolled her eyes before looking at Nubia who seemed pissed, looking at Layla.

Kissa walked to her and helped her out of her carriage. "It also wards off evil spirits and negative things." Kissa said and Nubia looked at her before agreeing to go take a bath.

Layla kept her tail to herself as she sat at the edge of the river in her under dress with her legs in the water.

This was the first time she was going to have this kind of public bath and she had to admit it was cool.

She was pulled out of her thoughts when Nubia arrived before her. "You can do like you're dead and try to ignore me all you want Layla. That won't stop the fact that you stole Asim from me."

"It's not my fault I'm not appealing enough and is able to capture his attention because you didn't satisfy him." Layla mocked.

"How dare you…"

"Keep it. I'm not interested in your stupid talks anyways." Layla rolled her eyes before diving into the water.

Nubia was annoyed but she kept it to herself as she silently washed herself up.

Kissa sat at the shore as she looked at the people take their bath when a little girl rushed over to her.

"Sorceress, I saw this stone in the water. It matches well with your clothes." She handed her a white pearlish stone which looked beautiful.

Kissa smiled sweetly at her before thanking her and she blushed a bit before running away.

Kissa handed Sabola the stone to keep as the people started walking out of the water. She knew after that, they would go on with activities and some who would help in harvesting would help their husbands on their farms.

Everyone soon returned to their homes to change as they royals too went to change their dresses in their tents except Kissa who insisted on wearing the same clothes.

Young boys were carrying baskets of grains already up to the village silos and those to be stored in the houses were taken to the house.

Kissa watched as a woman near where she was sitting kneaded doughs of bread and another woman was making fire in the oven.

Kissa couldn't help but admire their beautiful lifestyle as they did everything in a simple way.

Girls who also went to the farms were helping with the distribution of foods to their various houses.

The foods stored in the general storehouses were the ones sold to other kingdoms and those the royals got from.

After the whole harvest, food will be distributed to each trader in the market and the gains will be shared by the farmers while the main money would be sent to the palace.

Every year, Asim would send them new seeds to plant when it was time for planting through Lapis.

Some women walked out of their houses with materials for clothes which would be sold at the middle of the week when other kingdoms would come over to buy from them.

Soon, a young girl walked over to Kissa and she already suspected she was from the home she was watching the women bake.

The girl had a tray of with her and knelt before Kissa.m gently. "Mother asked me to give you this if you would want to eat from us." The girl said.

"We just made this new bread recipe and she wanted you to have the honor of being the first to try it."

Kissa smiled warmly as she took the tray. She opened the lid which had two loaves of bread in it and a sma bowl of soup.

The bread looked inviting and even the smell was delicious. Kissa blessed it before she took a bite and she had to say, the bread was delicious.

"It's amazing." Kissa complimented and the girl's face lit up.

"Sabola, try it. It's even much better than the bread I eat in the palace." Kissa gestured to Sabola to take a bite and she did and she also accepted that the bread was delicious.

"Please bring over your mother, it seems Lady Kissa loves her bread." Sabola smiled at the young girl who happily nodded before running off as Kissa enjoyed the remaining bread.

"There's nothing special about it. It's just plain dough made from flour." Zahra rolled her eyes from where she sat.

"You never appreciate anything so how would you know." Kissa rolled her eyes, making Zahra grit her teeth.

"You brat…"

"Save yourself the stress of yelling and gritting your poor teeth. It won't do either of us any good." Kissa rolled her eyes as she watched the young girl and her mother arrive.

"You sent for me, my lady." The woman bowed before Kissa.

"I like your bread a lot and even though I am not that good in the kitchen, can you teach me?" Kissa asked and everyone around looked shocked, including Sabola.

"My… my Lady, are you sure? It's a pretty hard job to do." The woman laughed nervously.

"If she wants to do it, let her do it." Lapis suddenly appeared. "And since she likes your bread, you would be supplying a hundred loaves to the palace everyday. I'm sure you can go through the problem of teaching her and also supplying the palace for a bag of gold coins every week."
