The kingdom of Kiri was a three days journey from Atresh. Kiri was popular because of the dominance of Elementals in their kingdom back in the days. They had once been ruled by a king who was an Elemental and he wasn't the nicest of kings. He had taken over the throne by force, killing his predecessor in the act. He ruled Kiri with much brute force, that the people had protested against him and brought his rule to an end, publicly beheading him as a means to serve justice.
They abhorred anything called Elemental and association with one was punishable by death
Their boat had just arrived at the docks and it was already night. They had gotten information from the sailor that Warren's sister was held prisoner at the kingdoms toughest prison, "Death" as it was popularly known. High class criminals and soon to die culprits were always imprisoned in Death. It was heavily guarded day and night making it almost impossible to infiltrate. And even if one managed to infiltrate the prison, the interior was built in the likes of a maze which only the kingdom council and the guards could decipher.
As a kid, he was exceptionally smart and since his father worked in the royal army, Warren had seen the interior design of the Death a couple of times and he felt confident about breaking in and coming out with ease. The only problem now was to find the exact prison cell his sister was held prisoner. Her baby, what did they do to it? He couldn't think straight all day as he waited for nightfall to make his move.
Warren sat scheming all possible ways of breaking in and out of the Death. It was all he could do for now after all, he was an infamous character here. He couldn't risk running around without a plan. From what he recalled, Death was guarded by a total of seven hundred soldiers, the finest of them. The exterior alone was guarded by at least three hundred soldiers making it almost impossible to break into. Three hundred were scattered around the perimeter while the inside was guarded by the remaining hundred. The interior was the least guarded because finding ones way through the maze was unrealizable.
Midnight came faster than expected, the trio were all set to infiltrate Death after uncountable lessons from Warren. Aaron was not completely healed but he could now walk unaided and insisted he came along with them to repay Warren the favor of Saving him and Sian. Warren accepted after much consideration, the more they were, the easier it would be to find his sister since her location wasn't exact. He taught the two all he could remember about the prison and as soon as the night provided enough cover, they started their quest.
If he could remember correctly, a river ran through the back of the prison and as the tales told, his ancestors had dug an underground tunnel through the river to the king's palace when they planned his impeachment. That would be their way in. The underground tunnel passed straight under the prisons kitchen and by this time, the kitchen department should be through and asleep. The tales were partially correct, there was for a fact an underground tunnel, but it didn't lead to the kitchen. It was right under the soldiers resting room and they had crawled out into their midst.
At least fifteen soldiers were present in the room when they suddenly surfaced. They had been sighted and soon a loud sound could be heard from the belfry a few metres away announcing the presence of intruders, a phenomenon that has never happened for the past sixty two years. They easily outmatched the soldiers and they were all soon unconscious on the floor.
The anterior part of the building. He had a hunch that his sister would be there since she would be executed soon. They would probably keep her closer to the doors to avoid stress. His hunch was right. It was easier than he thought, she laid almost lifeless on the prison floor. Her body lean and bruised and her eyes swollen from her endless tears.
Warren signalled them on the directions for them to take. He had assigned them towards the less complicated side of the prison while he dashed off towards the complex part.
"Helen" He called out as soon as the chains that locked her in were broken. She raised her head slowly afraid her neck might snap if she moved any faster. Their eyes met and she let out a weak smile. Warren rushed to her and fetched her off the dirty floor. He carried her carefully out of the cell making sure not to cause her any form of pain. He had barely taken few strides forward when they were attacked.
He released shockwaves of air towards the cluster of soldiers knocking them off their feet and sending them into the air.
She still wept even when in his arms. The warm liquid soaked his shirt as her tears flowed down.
"They killed him in front of me, they killed my son"
