Chapter 15 - Family

They had been walking for over two hours now, her legs had gone sore but she couldn't dare to complain, after all Warren carried his sister throughout the journey and he didn't seem fatigued at all. He had changed just within these few days. Anguish and hate was the only feeling he gave out now and she was irritated by the new him. But he wasn't to blame, the society had seriously wronged him and he had stayed tolerant with them for so long. They had simply crossed their limits.

They had reached a labyrinth and everyone stopped for a bit, everyone gave Lucas a look but he still seemed confident. He threw a foot in front and scrapped the floor with it as if trying to find something then suddenly he continued his movements. Everyone followed sheepishly, they were at his mercy for now and didn't have a choice but to follow. They soon arrived at a river bank and a boat laid ashore awaiting their arrival.

"We're here" Lucas said as he gestured for them to get onto the boat. Everyone paused for a bit waiting for someone to get on it first. Warren seemed to have been fed up with the infantile demeanor and had first boarded the boat and rested the sleeping Helen by his side. Every other person followed suit.

All she mostly did throughout the silent journey was stare at Warren, she could feel his pain as she watched him nurse his unconscious sister. He looked at her once and smiled and that was the only attention he gave her throughout the journey.

"We're here" Lucas announced spreading his arms over the vast emptiness as if waiting for someone to run into them.

"Where exactly?"Arthur asked. He seemed rather uneasy being sorrounded by people stronger than him and it was evident. He tried to keep his shoulders up throughout the journey to intimidate others, he was obviously the tallest amongst them but nobody seemed a bit browbeaten by his uninteresting display.

"Honestly, I don't even know but we can rest easy now we aren't in Kiri." Lucas replied. Everyone seemed surprised by his words, for all they knew, they could be lost and even in greater danger of the unknown. The explosion of fireworks in the sky relieved them of their fears. They were close to civilization at least and it seemed like they town was in the middle of a carnival. They followed the light from the unending display of pyrotechnics.

They were soon out on the streets in the middle of a huge festival. Everyone was dressed up in colourful attires as they sang along to the drumbeats.

The group cleverly manuorvred through the crowd making sure not to loose each other as the moved past. They found their way to an inn and checked in for the week.

Warren sat on her bed as he waited for her to wake. Their mother was there too. She had cried enough and her eyes had ran dry of tears. He wasn't going to leave her side until he was sure she was alright. He cupped her cheeks in his palms and rubbed them gently. Helen opened her eyes weakly as if responding to the motion on her face.

"Warren.." she said weakly as she tried to sit upright. "Where are we? Is mom safe?" She asked oblivious of the fact that their mother sat right beside her.

She was as caring and loving as he remembered, even after all she had been through the first thing she asked was about their well-being, people who couldn't care less about her just because she married an Elemental, a sudden wave of hate swept through him as he looked took a quick glance at his mother and Arthur who just entered the room.

He suppressed his impure emotions and smiled at her. "We're safe now, it's going to be alright" He replied trying to keep his smile as realistic as much as possible. He didn't want to bother her with the thoughts of him hating on their family. Their mother had thrown herself onto Helen while Arthur approached her bed and squat beside it.

Arthur could feel the glaring eyes of Warren staring daggers into him by the corners of his eyes. He knew he had said very bad things about him and had made the worst statement hours ago about his sister.

All throughout his childhood he had been jealous of Warren, he felt threatened by his mere existence. He was afraid of being inferior to his younger brother, Warren had always outmatched him and their other siblings in intelligence and things only got worse when he first displayed his Elemental powers.

His envy had only gotten worse, he had spread the hate to his immediate younger brother and they made sure to keep him abate around them. He wanted to apologize but his pride wouldn't let him. He took Helens palms and caressed them gently as he watched the happy reunion of mother and daughter.

"We'll be leaving tomorrow" Warren said bringing an abrupt end to the emotional reunion. "I would be putting you all in danger if I continued staying here with you" He finished.

"Where do you suppose we go to?" Helen asked. She perfectly understood what he meant, even before she had been discovered she had always seen his posters all around the place. She knew he only wanted to keep them safe

"Arthur will take you to stay with Martin once you are well again. Make sure to take care of mother." Tears welled up in his eyes and he dare not blink else the liquid flows. He didn't want to cry in front of his brother most especially Helen, if he cried then it would show her that he was weak. He held them back and stood up immediately, "I will have my rest now" He finished and left the room before anyone could notice his teary eyes.

"I see your sister is doing fine" Lucas said, announcing his presence as he emerged from where he stayed hidden.

"I don't appreciate you meddling into my family matters without permission" Warren replied flatly. He wanted to make sure this Lucas of a person understood that he wasn't trusted yet and keep his distance. He was only helping him because he had no options, but now he wouldn't hesitate to kill him if it came down to it.

"Now now, there's no need to get all fused up about anything, I just wanted to see if you're sister is doing fine.," Lucas replied. He had sensed the hate that emanated from Warren and he wanted to steer clear from his bad side. "I heard about us departing tomorrow, if I recall correctly, you are not in charge of Making such decisions"

"If you don't like it that way then you might as well call off our deal. You staying here only puts them in more danger since we have no idea of who may break through those doors looking for you. The same goes for me. If you want the truce to remain unbroken then I advice you start packing your bags before sunrise" Warren finished and left.

Lucas grinned to himself, 'an incredibly intelligent fellow' he thought, he was totally at their mercy now, after all, his family was safe and they could easily gang up and get rid of him if desired. That didn't matter much to him anyways. He wanted to get closer to this Sian of a girl, he wanted to know why his master, the most insatiable being of all could possibly want from her that he would outlook all that he has done simply because he failed to retrieve her on his first try.

Sian laid supine, watching the empty wooden ceilings as her mind wandered off in thoughts. 'He has changed' she thought, unable to decipher why she couldn't stop the thoughts of him from storming her mind. She wasn't supposed to care if he changed or not, but here she was caring. It drove her insane she could scream. His scent filled the air as she took a deep inhale, now his smell was in her head, 'what has he done to her?' she couldn't fathom.

"Are you thinking about me"Warren asked leaning in close on her distracted face. He startled her and couldn't help but laugh at her as she jolted back to reality. She regained her composure and shot him a daring glance. He returned the look before slowly melting down to a smile. Her cheeks flushed pink, and she fought to repress the feeling inside her. He was smiling now but should could still feel the bloodlust aura from him. She didn't want to pry but she wanted to know if he was okay. "How's Helen?" She asked hiding he flustered cheeks with her palm.

"She's conscious now, we would be leaving tomorrow morning though"He replied

"Tomorrow? Why so soon? Don't you what to stay with your family a little longer?" She asked clearly surprised by his decision. She felt the slight stir in his emotion as she looked in his eyes.

"It's best if I get away from them as soon as possible, I'm a wanted man and staying close to them would only bring trouble their way. Forget about me now, how is Aaron" Warren inquired trying to change the subject.

"He's still not on board with us hanging with Lucas, they don't get along so well" She replied. "What of you, how do you feel having him around?"

"As long he's not a competition, I'm good with it" Warren replied. He leaned in closer to her and cupped her cheeks with his palms, he could feel her breathing increase and he smiled to it before withdrawing. "Get some sleep we travel in the morning"
