When they got to the Wing of the Palace where the Chambers where, Gwendolyn could see various maids walking around, each going about their various chores. None of them paid her any attention, they just went on with their chores and completely ignored her and Alex.
Gwendolyn furrowed her brows when she saw these maids, not because they were blatantly disrespectful but because she didn't understand how... how they were all that beautiful!
She know she could boast about her beauty back in Greecia but this women exceeded her by far. They were almost like they do not belong to the human world.
"These are the maids that tend to all the Chambers of the Princes and Princesses. Anything that had to do with the bed chamber is left to them" Alex knowingly explained not forgetting to make his explanation a little bit ambiguous. If one didn't listen well they would think that the beautiful maids were also responsible for warming the beds of the Princes too. At least that was what he was secretly hinting her into thinking.
It would not be unreasonable for Gwendolyn to think like that, who wouldn't be tempted into toying with any of these maids. Not only were they beautiful but they had bodies that were out of this world. The type of body that was used to depict a succubus in fantasy novels. Yes that was were they belonged...fantasy novels.
Alex had been watching every of Gwendolyn's expression since they got to that wing of the palace, seeing that unloosening knot between her brows, he thought Prince Arvcan second plan might just end up working.
Another thing they had discovered about the princess was that she had an unmeasurable hatred to beautiful women aside herself. There was rumors that she had rejected a suitor because this handmaid was beautiful. The Prince didn't mind summoning all the beautiful ladies in Rylica just for this scheme.
"This..." Gwendolyn muttered with that frown on her face.
Alex smiled and prepared to glibly worsen the issue "These maid had been specifically handpicked by the Pri_"
"isn't this a waste of beauty?" Her words cut him off.
Shocked he turned to look at her face that was ridden with regret. He thought he might have understood wrongly so he asked again "What does Princess Gwen mean?"
"This_" Gwendolyn pointed at the maids "They are too beautiful to be just maids. Tsk if I was half as beautiful as they are I probably wouldn't work for myself, talkless of working for others."
Her tone was a little loud so not only Alex but even the maids has heard what she said. Now they were all at loss. Why did she seemed to be thinking out of point?
No wait... Wasn't she supposed to be flaring up to the point she would want to cancel the marriage? Why was she feeling regret that they were working as maids?
The young man could only chuckle amusedly, "You might think so but they really do enjoy many privileges that others don't, after all they were appointed by the Seventh Prince, so he takes quite good care of them"
Gwendolyn snorted softly then whispered under her breath "Tch, he really must be a heartless man, making this beauties work should be a crime in its own." She had whispered but Alex could make out what she had said.
He shook his head hopeless, their plan had failed again, it was almost like they were punching against a ball of cotton, this Princess was so different from what they heard about her. So there was no need trying the other plans on her, they will invariably end in a flop too, that was for sure. He gave the maids a signal and told them to cancel the other plans.
Only God at this point could make the Princess cancel the marriage, or else the Prince could just accept his faith and get married.
With no other hidden schemes under his sleeves, Alex continued showing Gwen around. The girl was immersed in his stories and description that she had totally forgotten how terrified she was coming to the palace. As they walked, she asked questions mainly out of curiosity and not with the thought of marriage in mind. She was like a high school student that was taken out on excursion.
As they strolled on they passed a group of men who were seriously deliberating something amongst themselves. They greeted Gwendolyn and the second in command then continued with their deliberations.
"Those are the Royal architects, this whole Palace was a result of their imaginations and they aren't done yet, it seems they derive Joy in tearing down parts of the Palace and rebuilding it from time to time" Alex explained jokingly. Gwendolyn chuckled slightly, at the same time too, the men walked towards them.
"Good day you highness, you must be the Princess from Greecia?" One of the elderly men asked.
With a smile on her face Gwendolyn nodded her head "Yes I am"
The elderly man's eyes lit up almost instantly, he looked like he had found a saviour. "That's splendid!"
"Now tell us, would you like the bathroom inside the walk in closet or outside?" His questions swept her off her feet, she became confused and didn't understand what he meant.
"They are making arrangements to the Prince Chambers and would like to know your preference" Alex helped explain since he could see that she was confused.
My preference? Why would they need my preference to adjust the Prince room?
Gwendolyn had just finished thinking and then one of the men answered her question.
"In respect to the wedding, we are making the Prince Chambers fit for your arrival and we need your preference, perhaps would you like_"
The wedding! How could she have forgotten?!
She was gleefully enjoying the tour that she had forgotten that she was here because of that damned marriage!. Ahh!
The Men blabbered on and on, even showing her the design sketches in their hands but the Princess they were talking to was not paying attention, hearing them continuously mention the wedding only made her even more anxious. Gwendolyn didn't know how she was going to get out of this wedding.
Perhaps should she feign an ailment before that day?... No that wouldn't work, the palace had qualified doctors, they'll find out she was lying.
What about making the Prince hate her? That would not work too, him hating her was a given already, the reputation of the princess wasn't likeable in the first place. Then what should she do?
Ahh! This is really pressuring!.
Lost in thought, she was obliviously of the time a certain man walked towards them.
"Your Highness!" The chorused voices of the people around her echoed in her head.
Your Highness? Wait is that...
"Prince Arvcan, I thought you were not going to make it" Alex's voice completed her thoughts.
Frightened and scared. She lifted her eyes and peered at the man standing few meters from her.
The devil was here!
