Marcellus had on a complicated look in his eyes as he stared at Quinn who was obviously treating him like air.
Ever since the winter ball, Quinn completely ignored his existence. At that time the only thing he felt was a sense of loss because no one would get him the things he liked at one subtle hint.
Instead, he had to cater to his girlfriend and bring her whatever she wanted. This was after all what a man should do. Now that he had seen her after so long he kind of felt complicated feelings inside though he didn't show it outwardly.
Ivy who was worriedly holding her mother's hand let go and walked to Marcellus' side her expression seeming aggrieved like she had been wronged greatly.
She locked their arms together and said, "We are disturbing them. Sister Quinn is celebrating her bachelorette party so let's go."
Hearing this Marcellus was a little surprised. It was then he noticed the conspicuous sash worn by her. He suddenly felt slight unhappiness.
Quinn was what the boys in their school called the untamable wild breed. She could beat any of them in a fight thus no one dared to mess with her. But whoever did manage to win her heart would forever be a legend.
He never took it to heart nor was he interested in conquering her. In his mind, if Quinn liked him then she would chase away all the butterflies flapping around him. He loved the feeling of being pursued and having girls wrapped around his finger. He lived for that feeling thus he never thought of going for her.
That is until the day he met that impoverished kid that everybody shunned. He was standing near the old gym looking like he was struggling with a life-altering decision.
Marcellus continued walking not interested in speaking to him but the kid saw him and rushed over with that blank face of his. Because he had the image of a kind hearted person in school he couldn't ignore him.
That would go against his persona so he stopped showing a toothy smile. The kid didn't even show any reaction but his words were still polite.
"Senior, may you please give this to Quinn she... she is sitting behind the old gym. In his hand was a plastic bag and a panda-shaped flask.
Seeing that he didn't immediately accept it the kid took out some money and continued saying, "I will pay. Just please don't tell her it's from me."
Marcellus could have refused the money considering the boy's situation but he had spent his pocket money on some college girls at the movies the past weekend so he was running low on funds.
He took the money and the package ready to act as a delivery man and continue on his way. What he didn't expect though was the fleeting sparkle in Quinn's eyes.
He had been around the block and understood girls very well. Quinn was a tough nut but she was still a girl after all. At that moment he suddenly realised that he could conquer the untamable.
During sports time he led the discussion toward the unattainable Quinn and hooked these naive boys into placing bets. Could he, the angelic and sunny Marcellus tame a tough girl like Quinn? The end result was predictable.
He made a shit load of money from the naive rich kids and also struck a gold mine. To his surprise though what he was worried about initially didn't happen. Quinn didn't cause him trouble hence his little beauties still pursued him.
They all still satisfied his vanity but Quinn gave him a feeling none of the others gave him. Other girls would show the same infatuated gaze to any other handsome guy but Quinn only had that look just for him.
It was only reserved for him. Coupled with the superior feeling of having other boys dare not approach her and having her run around like a headless chicken for him his vanity was thoroughly satisfied.
So when he heard his girlfriend mention that Quinn was getting married he was suddenly unhappy. Quinn was going to show the very same look to someone else other than himself. Over the years he never thought about it but now that they had met he couldn't help feeling the way he did.
It was like going home and finding out that your baby sister had gotten into your toys and opened a collectable toy that you even forgot you had. Suddenly you no longer wanted to let it go and felt unreasonably angry about it.
"Ah, congratulations," he said putting on a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.
As he took a step forward to shake Quinn's hand Amalie took a step to the side and blocked his view before saying straightforwardly, "Get lost and take your shitty girlfriend and in-law with you."
Marcellus, "..."
Ivy tugged at his arm and whispered softly, "Mars, let's go before our time slot for the reservation ends."
Thinking of how hard it was to get this reservation, Marcellus gritted his teeth before turning to smile sweetly at the delicate little princess.
The two turned around to leave but Camilie stood there looking at Quinn with a scrutinising gaze. She couldn't help but go over Quinn's interaction with Marcellus just now.
Quinn obviously ignored him but there was something in Marcellus' gaze. It wasn't love or even like but a look of a predator having lost his prey. "Mum," called out Ivy and Camilie finally came back to herself. She wordlessly took a step back before turning on her heel and leaving.
The dinner she had been looking forward to was suddenly ruined and it was of her own doing. Firstly, Quinn was actually getting married and secondly, her daughter's boyfriend was interested in Quinn.
This alone left her absent-minded for a while. She was so distracted that she didn't realise how perfunctory she was when she received Marcellus' gift. She didn't even bother opening it.
This, in fact, displeased the young master very much. Ivy had specifically emphasized that her mother loved the rare fragrance Kalow seduction made by the world renowned perfumer, Mariette. Because this was hand made by her there was no replica of it anywhere in the world. One had to pay a hefty price and call in favours to get the thirty millilitres of it.
After cashing in all his favours owed to him for this, she (Camilie) was perfunctory about it.
He was very unhappy but didn't want to say anything that would upset this delicate little flower. It was because of this that he was more silent than usual.
