Just as the buzz kicked in her mother was the first to stick her head out of the sunroof and scream.
"MY QQ IS GETTING MARRIED WOOHOO!!!!" she yelled till her voice was hoarse. With a loud pop, she popped a confetti cannon attracting the attention of the people walking along the nocturnal district of the city.
Loud cheers followed as some pedestrians indulged her. a second head and then a third peered through the sunroof. They popped even more confetti cannons shouting their baby was getting married.
Quinn, "..."
Could she just return her and get another mother? Was that even possible? She pinched the space in between her brows looking like she was at a loss on what to do with her mother. She was so worried that if her mother ever found out what she and Leif did, she would feel even more stupid about this moment.
"Show us the bride," yelled a bunch of boys when they stopped at a red light.
"SHOW US!"
"SHOW US! SHOW US!"
Amalie lowered her head and tried to convince her. She said "QQ honey, come and show yourself. You only get to do this once in your life so hurry."
That she was right. She could only do this once in her life because after the divorce she planned on never getting married at all.
"Mom," she said but looking at her mother's begging expression she relented.
"Fine," she said and Doris moved out of the way.
Just as the light was turning green Quinn stood up and Amalie pointed at her daughter excitedly. "THATS MY BABY! SHE IS GETTING MARRIED!!!!"
"WOOHOO..."
"CONGRATULATIONS!!!"
"MISS YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!!"
One after the other the men shouted as the limousine drove off. Quinn's lips couldn't help but quirk into a smile her cheeks flashed maybe from the alcohol or from being embarrassed.
Feeling the cool breeze caress her face Quinn started getting a little into it. Well, that is until the bright red and blue lights from a patrol vehicle lit up followed by soft beeping sounds indicating that they should pull over.
"Shit shit shit. It's the popo. Act cool," whispered Kaya as she disappeared in a flash and sat down properly like she wasn't the one screaming at the top of her lungs just now.
Doris shoved something in her bra and sat down like a straight A student in a class. Amalie glared at her for bringing that here. If they were caught forget Quinn getting married, they would be stuck in the slammer for a month.
"Behave, I am too pretty for prison," she reprimanded in a loud whisper while pointing at Doris. Doris nodded her head vigorously as she pressed the window down button.
The driver lowered the partition and reassured them. "Stay cool ladies. You don't have to worry," he said but they weren't listening because the officer coming towards them was unlike the rest. One might say he was too sexy for the job.
The belt on his narrow waist swirled with each step he took making these thirsty aunties stare too hard.
"Stop looking at him you pervs," whispered Quinn but it was like they had been hypnotised by medusa's eyes and lost their minds.
The elder gentleman who looked too good for a man his age leaned down and took off his sunglasses before saying, "Good evening ladies. How much have you been drinking tonight?"
"We we we," stammered Kaya while Doris raised her wrists pressed together saying,
"A lot sir. Please arrest me."
Quinn, "..."
As for her mother, she was blushing so much that you would think she had eaten Carolina Reaper, one of the hottest chillis in the world.
The officer schemed through everyone but he did a double take when he saw Amalie.
He smiled slightly before saying, "You do know that littering is an offence that could have you doing community service? I don't think pretty women like yourselves are suited for picking up trash at the beach."
The others murmured nervously like little school girls smitten by this uncle who looked too good with grey hair. His uniform was also a little off like it wasn't exactly like that of a patrol officer's.
Quinn was the only sober one around here so she apologised. "I am so sorry sir. We didn't know. We will accept the punishment," she said and Doris nodded her head vigorously. Damn, she wouldn't mind getting arrested right now and frisked.
The officer glanced past Amalie once more before saying to Quinn, "Congratulations."
Quinn was a little puzzled thus she exclaimed unintelligently, "Huh?"
The officer smiled embarrassedly and pointed at her sash. "That. Congratulations on your wedding. I bet he is a very lucky guy," he said like an elder genuinely happy for the young.
"Oh, thank you," she whispered feeling another wave of guilt. So many strangers were congratulating her yet she was being deceitful. She wasn't marrying for love at all but for a paycheck.
"As a wedding gift, this uncle will let you off with a warning, okay?" he said as he leaned back.
"Thank you so much," said Quinn and because his face had moved the hypnotic spell was broken.
"Thank you so much. We have learnt our lesson," said Kaya as Doris peered her head through the window while saying,
"Thank you so much, sir. You are so kind."
Amalie pursed her lips before finally saying, "Thank you," in a low voice but he heard it. He leaned back down and looked right at her before saying,
"You are welcome. Stay safe ladies." He nodded at the driver slightly before turning to walk away.
As soon as he entered the SUV the man sitting next to him said, "Sir, President Carnell sent the location for the raid. Are we still going?"
The man who was the highest authority in the police force agreed to participate in this raid. That's because he was about to take down the largest drug kingpin on the south side and his source was accurate.
From time to time he would actively participate in the groundwork for the sake of the men and women in the force who had been laying their lives down for this city night and day. If he as a leader wasn't even willing to fight alongside them then what good was he?
