"I can't rule the pack, Aurora, I've never thought of it," Sage bellowed softly, staring into space. Aurora followed him home after she promised King Cowell to talk to him. She has been pleading with him for the past hours but Sage was adamant. He wasn't going to accept the proposal. He was just the Beta's son and now he was asked to rule his pack, how in heavens was that going to happen? He has never dreamt of being the Beta, not to mention being an Alpha of a pack. It was weird to him.
"I know this has not been discussed with you and I'm as confused as you are. How are you going to take the throne and rule the pack? It is disturbing when you don't know about it," Aurora conveyed.
"Exactly. How do they expect me to rule a pack not like I have that spirit in me? I'm only a mere member except that my father is the Beta, I got no role," he complained and hissed away. "Why would my father reject what he was supposed to take up," he mumbled and Aurora giggled. "What's funny?" He requested, confused. He was saying something important and she was joking about it.
"Definitely if your father was to take up the throne, then you would surely be the next Alpha. It's just that it came earlier than you expected."
Sage groaned. His girlfriend was right though. "At least, I would have been aware and prepared my mind. But this, this is unusual," he divulged and stood up from the couch they both sat on. He moved to the little kitchen in his compartment and reached out for a bottle of water inside the fridge. He opened it and gulped almost the content into his throat. When he was satisfied, he dropped the bottle on the cabinet and walked back to the couch with Aurora's eyes watching every step he took. He was looking bothered and she felt for him. How was he going to cope with being an Alpha?
"My father also kept this from me. Geez, my father is something else. That man only cares for his wife and his best friend. He has never for once shown his fatherly love to me."
"That's to show how great a father is to his male child," Aurora uttered, grinning at his weird look at her.
"Great you say."
Aurora let him sit down then, she stood up, spread her legs and made herself sit in his lap as he started shockingly at her. "I love it this way," she mumbled and hugged him, pulling herself closer to him.
Sage hugged her back, sniffling her hair down to her neck while she chuckled. "I still need to know why that curse is placed on your family," he said, still nuzzling her neck.
"Why are you still bothered about it?"
"I'm trying my best to resist trying to avoid hurting you. I don't want you dead," Sage tried to make a convincing answer.
"My grandmother said anyone apart from my mate can claim me," she mumbled.
"I'm being careful and trying to get an understanding of it."
"I told you we don't have to stress ourselves on it, it has nothing to do with you, Sage. Don't you know if the curse wasn't made then, I might not have found you," she confided.
"Mm mm," Sage mumbled. She was right, they would have met properly and he would have claimed her at most, they could have mated. It was driving him crazy to see that he couldn't have her just the way he wanted. "What would you do if you found your mate, Aurora?" he inquired and disengaged from the hug while Aurora whimpered before she let go of him.
"I don't want to see him. Why would I have to see someone that could cause my death at any time?" she replied leaving Sage to his thoughts. Aurora was starting to scare him. She was talking like any moment she got to know that he was her mate, she was going to reject him. He shook his head, he needed to find out about that curse.
He stood up and faced her. "Maybe I've decided to be an Alpha," he relayed.
"Really?!" Aurora shrieked and stood up to leap on him. "You've made the right decision and I'm very sure the pack will be glad to have you as their Alpha," she assured and pecked his lips several times while they both giggled.
The Next Day|
Sage sat in the King's chamber getting training from Alpha Cowell after he had agreed to be the King. Alpha Cowell had given him the Lock Hearts Alpha's lineage books for him to read and learn from. After that, the King tried to give him ideas that he could remember since most of his memories were getting blank. Sage also helped the King know about some things he had forgotten. Seeing the King unable to get his thoughts together almost brought tears to his eyes. Right from when he knew the King, the King has been his mentor. Now that the King was ill, he couldn't feel that strong vibe in him.
"Did my father tell you why he wouldn't take the throne?" Sage asked as he started to arrange the books back in order after his training.
"Your father didn't want to betray me whereas he knew he wouldn't rule the pack fairly leaving me to wrath on my illness," Alpha Cowell explained and Sage nodded in agreement.
"Have you been getting some clues from Aurora?" Alpha Cowell changed the topic after a moment of silence.
"She only told me what my mother told me," he answered wearily. "How long has her family been in this pack?"
King Cowell tried to think but he couldn't get any idea. "I don't know," he answered.
"She told me her family was cursed and that has been like that for a very long time," Sage said.
"I've never heard of anything like that before. I proposed you meet with Sora, her grandmother. She might know something you and Aurora don't know," the King informed and immediately, Sage agreed to his coherent.
"I'll leave and be back by tomorrow before dusk," Sage promised and made his way back home while King Cowell whispered a goodbye.
