King Huston sent in another threat after Caren went back without a mate and the King called for another meeting. His associates as usual were present and everyone began to give their suggestions.
"Firstly, we need to find out who sent those assassins," Rae notified and everyone nodded except the King who seemed lost.
"Which assassins are you talking about?" Alpha Cowell demanded looking from one face to another while his associates stared confused at him.
"The assassins that attacked us when we were returning from Autumn pack," Rae explained.
"I still don't remember," The King uttered while everyone stared dazed at him. Was he joking with them? How could he say he didn't remember the attack that happened a few weeks ago?
Sage and Aurora exchanged glances knowing fully well what was happening. Just then, Beta Craig stood up from his seat, his legs wobbling as he stood in front of his best friend. "Rae, the King is trying not to remember that awful day so, please don't mention it again," He referred to Rae who bowed his head in agreement even if Beta Craig wasn't looking at him. Thus, Beta Craig whispered to the King. "Dismiss this meeting." The King took the advice and immediately dismissed his disturbed associates and made his way into his chamber.
Sage ran up to his father before he joined the King in his chamber. "I think he's starting to lose his memory," Sage acknowledged.
Beta Craig already knew that the King's illness would have caused him not to remember his last attack on their pack. He closed his eyes in pain, fisting his hands into a ball. The fear of seeing his friend forget everything about his life made him tremble. Yet, there was nothing he could do. Sage touched his father, bringing him back to life. He nodded his head and told Sage he needed to see his friend and left.
Standing beside him, Aurora confided in Sage. "Let's go see the King," she proposed.
"Sure, let's do that," Rae interrupted before Sage could disagree. "It'll be a good idea."
"Do you also know about the King?" Sage inquired.
Rae nodded and took the lead as they trotted to the King's chamber. Rae slides the door open after all Beta Craig answered his knock on the door. The three walked in only to see the King looking all fatigued.
"Should we call for Gwen?" Sage proposed to his father, his gaze on the King.
"I gave him a call already," Beta Craig said and there was a little pause in the room before he spoke up again. "The King is starting to lose his memory and it's going to be too bad if he starts to forget things," Beta Craig conveyed bitterly as they all stood looking at Alpha Cowell who was smiling sheepishly at them.
"I'll be fine," Alpha Cowell assured but Beta Craig wasn't ready to buy his words.
"No! You're not. How could you forget a day like that and you said you'll be fine. I told you several times, let's see another healer for treatment but you refused."
"Have you forgotten my sickness can't be cured?"
"But at least you will get some treatment," Aurora mumbled before anyone would say anything.
"I'll be fine, I promise," Alpha Cowell convinced again. "Have you informed Sage? The coronation needs to start as soon as possible."
Sage, who had no idea what they were talking about, uttered, "What is it, father?"
Alpha Cowell shook his head and sat comfy on the couch he was sitting on, "I guess Craig hasn't informed you yet."
"Which is?" Sage arched his eyebrows trying to grasp what the King was talking about. Hope it was not what he was thinking.
The King spoke anyways, "Your father refused to take up the throne and since you're the next in line after your father, we_"
"I don't think you're referring to me, I can't take up the throne," Sage cut the King off.
Rae taps his head, playfully, "Don't interrupt the King, where are your manners?"
Sage's eyes popped out of their sockets. They can't be joking with him right? Making him the new Alpha of the LockHearts pack which was impossible for his hearings. "I'm taking up no throne," he declared, bowing his head, and then he made his leave, ignoring those calling after him.
"Aurora?" The King called unto her.
"Yes, your highness," she responded.
"I need you to talk to him. We know he wouldn't accept to be the King but could you help us convince him?"
Aurora heaved a bothered sigh, "Sage doesn't seem to be interested in the throne," she conveyed. "I don't think I can convince him," she added.
"We know," Alpha Cowell admitted, "But I know you'll do an excellent job if you confide in him."
"I'll try my best," she assured and turned to leave while Gwen walked in, carrying his pouch with him. He bowed to the King and began to check out his conditions. Beta Craig then began to ask about the symptoms the King was likely to get and Gwen went on to explain that soon the King might start to act weary and aggressive.
"Please can we get you to the healer of the Blood moon pack?" Gwen demanded from the King who was looking all frightened about his situation.
"Blood moon pack is a long distance from here. We'll take about two days to get there. It's okay, I don't want to stress anyone," Alpha Cowell conceded and Beta Craig growled at him.
"You gotta be kidding me, we're talking about your health right now and you're saying something else. Who told you you are going to stress us?!" Beta Craig snapped at his best friend, forgetting he was talking to the Alpha King.
"I said I'm fine. Don't talk rudely to me!" Alpha Cowell also snarled, getting upset with his best friend. He knew his best friend was worried about him but he had to know that even if they see the most powerful healer, his illness can't be cured because it has been caused by the brain. He developed the illness years later when his Luna died. He loved his mate so much but she hid her scent from him the moment she got to know that they were mates since she had hated him right from childhood. But after she had finally decided to let go of her past, she requested her scent. She got it back, fell into a deep sleep and didn't wake up. Her death has grief him and he has ended up getting Alzheimer's.
