Chereads / My Nerd Mate: I Won't Let Her Go / Chapter 8 - Building The Friends Zone

Chapter 8 - Building The Friends Zone

"I'm Aurora." She introduced herself to Sage through the mind link as they strolled side by side in the woods. After Sage has introduced himself, Aurora calmed her nerves seeing that he wasn't there to harm her. Her anger had turned to warmth, seeing how protective he could be.

"You're the pack fighter, I know you." He implied and she stopped on her track which he also did.

Her wolf turned to him, wiggling her tail in anxiety. "How come I don't know you and you're a pack member?" She asserted, using her eyes to roam over his dark brown wolf. He looked handsome with a tall and muscular figure in his wolf form and she imagined how he would be in his human body. She felt goosebumps building beneath her furs.

"You don't know everyone in the pack, do you?" Sage inquired and started to walk away.

Aurora fumed when she saw he wasn't giving her the respect she deserved. She was a leader and he was walking away from her not telling her who he was and why he had approached her.

She scurried after him, "Of course, I know everyone and you have a strong aura, everyone in the pack could know you better than you know yourself!" She snapped when she saw he wasn't paying attention to her words and dug her canines into his core for him to stop walking, winning a growl from his wolf.

Even when Sage was trying his best not to jump on Aurora and claim her, his wolf wasn't helping at all. They kept battling with each other trying to defend themselves.

"I need an answer from you and don't disrespect me!" Aurora snarled.

"Disrespect?" Sage asked and turned to face her, "I'm disrespecting you?"

"Yes!"

"Okay, fine I get it now. You're the leader of the pack fighters, do you have any special manner of being respected?"

"I don't need you to give me any special honour, don't just behave all mighty over me." She cautioned and Sage burst into a chuckle, irritating her. "Shut up!" She sneered and controlled her wolf from pouncing on him. He was starting to get on her nerves.

"I'm not in any way doing that to you, whereas you're the one trying to injure me." He oriented between laughter, tilting his head to the bruise that was already covering up

"Stop laughing, will you?" She implored and Sage had to succumb. He didn't approach her to anger her, he just wanted to create a friendly ambience between them.

Aurora's wolf gave him a deadly stare before striding past him, "I don't usually show off my status but since you didn't honour it right from the beginning, I have no choice but to do this." She paused and grunt a little, then she uttered, "You will have to pay me some respect. Bow to me." She ordered, and quit walking to face him. "Bow to your leader."

Sage knew she was serious at that moment and tended to do as she had pronounced. Indeed she was a true leader besides, he wanted to make her feel guilty the moment she got to know who he was.

Sage let his bushy go down into a sitting position then he bent his head low to pay respect to her. Aurora raised her head high to the sky, an energetic growl came out of her meaning she had accepted his growling.

Afterwards, giggles came out from each other's mind-link. They both made fun of themselves seeing how hysterical

they'd acted.

"I admire you, Aurora. You're brave." Sage confessed as they started their path again.

"Is that a compliment or_"

"It is." Sage interrupted before she could finish her statement. "You're the youngest leader in the pack, I love your braveness." He conveyed his marbles to her.

Aurora felt proud of his praise. Although it wasn't the first time someone was making a tribute to her, coming from him made her feel silly. "So, is that why you have to tame me in the woods? You could have properly approached me."

"I did, you were the one who misunderstood."

"Tell me, which region do you stay in the pack?" She inquired. It was still looking too weird for her to believe he was part of her pack.

Her question made Sage want to lie about his position in the pack but there was no way he could hide it. He was the Beta's son and she also held a role in the pack in that way, it was impossible since they both stayed in the same region. "I stay in the Prime region." He announced to her amusement.

"What?!" She exclaimed while her wolf barked. "You can't be serious, right now."

"I am."

"You are? How come I didn't… I mean, we haven't met before, don't lie to me!" She snarled. What she just heard was making her lose herself. "When the hell do you start living at the Prime, I  haven't met you before and I know everyone around Prime.

"I'm telling the truth." Sage conveyed, hitting his side to a tree along the path they took.

At that moment they were almost at the horizon of the woods where other wolves would have been waiting for her to give her dismissal statements.

"Then, why haven't I seen you around and where in Prime do you live?" She inquired. She was still having doubts about him. If what he was saying was the truth, why had she not set her eyes on him, not even sniffing his scent? She was concerned. "I'm a tracker and I could smell from a far distance." She amplified.

"You'd be surprised if you get to know me and I'm good at hiding scent." He lied and Aurora knew.

She snickered, "Then you'd be dead the next time I see you. Nice to meet you too and I would love to see that you aren't lying to me." She uttered and with a blink of an eye, she took her heels, leaving Sage to laugh to his taste.

Initially, he thought she was just mischievous which was the truth but she was also the sweetest thing he had come to learn about. He wished he could run after her and review to her who he was. He wished he could have her in his arms because she was starting to drain him of the strength and control he had over his wolf.

Realizing she didn't want him was the toughest thing he needed to overcome. How could he let his mate be? Even if he hadn't fallen for her, could he just neglect her and find someone else? What was he to do?
