Chereads / My Nerd Mate: I Won't Let Her Go / Chapter 14 - Do You Always Wish?

Chapter 14 - Do You Always Wish?

Sage stood in front of Aurora's gate waiting for her to come out of her cottage. The King had sent them both to town to check out the town market where it was said a big fight had erupted between shifters. He had come to deliver the message for her and she had gone up to change her dress.

She came running out, fixing her spec to fit her eyes. She didn't put on her uniform this time, instead, she wore black nylon pants with a black brown coat and black inner. She had her black book on and everything fitted her perfectly making Sage fall in love with her once again.

She got to him and they walked to his car where he had parked it. But as soon as he opened the car for her to get in, another hand clasped it shut and they both turned to look at the person who had shot it. It was Fennick.

Sage's wolf groaned but silently as he was able to control it so that they wouldn't notice how angry he was. He waited patiently to see what Fennick was up to.

With a blink of an eye, Fennick had pulled Aurora away from where they were standing down to a tree while she struggled in his grip. However, Sage could listen to their conversation from where he stood.

"You still wouldn't forgive me?" Fennick asked bitterly.

Aurora, who tried not to have eye contact with him, mumbled, "I have."

Fennick scoffed, "You have but you wouldn't look me in the eyes. When have you ever stayed without reaching out to me? Calling me, Texting me." He growled.

"You never did too!" She snapped.

"That was because I was trying to give you some space but instead you forgot I was here and started chilling out with your new boyfriend?"

Aurora raised her head at him. "Who told you he's my boyfriend? Huh? Who told you?" She inquired and hit him on his chest. "You're dumb, I can see and where have you been these days? You said I was ignoring you but still you weren't around."

"I've been out of the pack." He replied and touched his forehead out of tiredness.

"You don't look good. Are you okay?" She inquired and reached out to check out his temperature when she heard Sage's mind link here.

"We're going to be late." He told her, not because they were going to be late but because she was touching Fennick all over his body and his wolf was reacting, wanting to pounce on Fennick.

Aurora didn't respond to him and focused more on her best friend. "When I get back, be ready to tell me why you left the pack and I want the truth to be told, okay?" She inquired, going all bossy at him and he nodded, his gaze now on Sage, staring keenly at him.

"I'm glad he's not your boyfriend but if he later becomes one just know that I approve of it since he looked protective." Fennick conveyed.

"Point of correction. The person you're referring to is nobody but Beta Craig's son. I'm sure you don't know him."

"The Beta's son? Wow, nice! No wonder I have this feeling he wasn't just a shifter. I should show some respect."

Fennick then pulled Aurora back to where Sage was waiting for them. He had heard their discussion and it had shunned him to know that Fennick wasn't the person he thought he would be.

"She's my sister, you better take care of her," Fennick uttered and Sage tried to play smart.

"I don't understand what you mean?"

Fennick looked from Sage to Aurora and Aurora back to Sage with a confused expression. "I thought you might agree with me."

"Oh yeah because you were thinking out of the box," Aurora said and jerked her hands away from his grip. "The king sent us some message, we'll be on our way," Aurora stated, looking at Sage to open up the car door for her to get in.

"Care to join?" Sage asked Fennick.

"Join? No bro, I'm never going to join and spoil a date. Good luck." He turned to leave.

"Fuck you!" Aurora cursed, "He's not my boyfriend." She added.

"Soon to be!"

"Why are you so quiet?" Sage asked as they drove through the highway.

At first, Aurora didn't want to utter a word but when remembered Sage wasn't going to spare her from the talk, she answered gloomily, "I'm used to going to places in my car without anyone frustrating me with questions. Why would the king pair us together?"

"Maybe he thought I was going to make a good impact on you." Sage conveyed earning a side glance from her. She hissed.

"Care to visit the spring with me?"

"I don't like going there." She muttered and rested her head on the armchair. "The water makes too much noise."

Fennick smiled, "When was the last time you visited the spring?"

Without sparing him a glance, she responded, "On my birthday."

"Which was when?" He asked like he didn't know her answer.

"Three days ago."

"Wow, nice. Do you always wish?"

She raised her head and furrowed her eyebrows at him, "Aren't you asking too much of a question?"

"Answer me and I will answer you."

"Keep your answer, I don't need it anyway." She mumbled and closed her eyes to enjoy the climate hitting on her skin.

Sage watched her from the planned mirror humming to the song that was playing beneath. She was such a perfect girl for him. He wanted her. He needed her in his arms but why can't he? Why had the moon goddess decided to punish him? Is there a chance he wouldn't claim her? Is there a chance she couldn't be his mate?

"Are you sleeping?" He inquired after a long silence. "I could sense your wolf, you seem nervous. You could talk to me."

Of course, she was nervous. His mentioning of her wish has taunted her mind. Her predicted wish. Everyone has a mate and wouldn't die but she, she doesn't have a mate but will die the moment he claims her. Wasn't it too dreadful?
