Chereads / The Undead Champion System / Chapter 42 - Adventure Time

Chapter 42 - Adventure Time

In a forest with sparkling green trees with black bark that housed different mythical species, a man lay on the ground with his back facing the sky.

Derrick groggily opened his eyes as he scanned his surroundings. He sat up from the ground and looked at his hands and body.

"What happened!?"

Then a scene flashed in his eyes

"Tem… Pestus!"

Bash said as the bird fully showed its features. A large hawk had silver feathers on its body and luminous blue talons as it looked at them with its multi-colored eyes.

A raging thunder sounded in the sky as the hawk flapped its wings.

Derrick held his head as the memories came flooding in.

"What happened to the rest? What happened to the beast!?"

He asked himself, standing up and placing his hand on a nearby tree to balance himself.

Derrick took a few seconds to steady his breathing, getting off the tree and walking forward.

"I have shallow knowledge of this forest. I have to get a high vantage point to find the others."

Derrick said as he cleared a branch on his path, going through multiple obstacles.

Soon reaching an empty field as he hid behind a rock and saw what seemed to be a clearing of wolves with horns in their heads.

Derrick scanned the field as they ate the grass, looking for any object that could trigger his memory.

"Nothing here, it seems."

He sighed and left, walking away before a severe pain struck him on his sides.

"What!?"

A lightning strike crossed past the air and struck Derrick's left rib, causing him to fall in pain as it penetrated through.

"Arch!"

Derrick held it and slowly looked at the wound and saw a burning mass of flesh and bones.

"Arch!"

"Are you ok!?" Klide asked, trying to move closer only for-

"No, no, no!" Said Derrick after witnessing the memory, causing the pain to intensify.

He looked at that spot, noticing a faint brown scar, further proof of his previous injury.

"Damn bastard!" Derrick said with gritted teeth as his eyes glowed golden for a moment.

Derrick vomited a mouthful of blood as his Dragonborn force activated, clenching his stomach in the process.

"I overused it already! My body can't handle further use."

Derrick thought in pain, with his veins becoming white before forcefully suppressing his rage while looking at his hand.

On it lay a dim gold gauntlet with an alluring radiant light that covered it like a knot.

Derrick flexed his other hand and saw the same sight. He soon stood up and declared-

"I do not know whether Klide is alive or not… but I will kill that monster either way." With a clenched fist, he completed. "It's either me or… it."

Derrick then looked at a faraway hill, feeling familiar with it, so he plotted the fastest path and ran toward it.

Derrick ran through the forest, crossing through multiple trees as their features slowly changed the more he traveled.

The Trees went from a straight shape to a curved one, from colorful to dark and gloomy. The grass turns green, red, blue, and dark blue before going to deep black.

Derrick jumped across branches and thorns and bypassed massive boulders, going through the sides with a sidestep.

He soon came to a cliff and paused while looking at the distance:

"Am getting close," said Derrick, seeing the hill get larger in his sight as he gave a smile for some reason.

[Thud!]

Derrick felt a heavy force come from his right, lifting him off the ground and down the cliff.

"Arch!"

Derrick hit a lot of obstacles before landing on the ground with annoyance on his face as he shook his head and looked back to see his obstructor.

It was a brown figure with a blocky head with yellow-orange lines on its skin and Its body made of organic red rocks.

"I don't have time for this!" Derrick was about to leave before a force came from within him and prevented him from leaving his spot.

Soon, pride filled his very being as he stared at his hands.

"A lowly being dare touch me?"

Derrick thought in a trance before turning back and pointing to the brown figure.

"Blocky bastard…! Come down here and apologize while on your knees!"

Derrick said with a slightly yellow tint in his eyes while his eyes still looked unfocused.

Blocky then jumped down from the cliff.

It landed in a squat before slowly standing up and looking at Derrick with red light in its eyes.

Blocky now stood face to face with him.

Derrick smiled and said, "Kneel-….Wait! What is happening to me? Why did I stop? I need to-"

Derrick bent his upper body slightly to the back as a massive fist passed by his face, scratching the bridge of his nose.

Blocky flinched his other hand as he prepared to deliver a strike, but Derrick acted faster, dealing a straight punch to the center of his face.

Derrick hit Blocky with a right before leaping back while a stone fist attacked where he once was.

Visible shockwaves appeared in the air as a result of the attack.

"He is strong! He may not be as strong as Aronaga or Klide, but now I am weakened! I need to be extra careful."

Derrick quickly thought as he planned out his attacks.

Blocky then ran at him with his hands at his back, forming a funny sight.

[Wack!]

Blocky instantly attacked with a straight at his face, but Derrick ducked to the side, looking below the ribs of Blocky

Derrick's attacks sounded like bullets as his armored fist struck the sides of Blocky twice.

A red fist crossed the air but hit nothing as Derrick maneuvered under it before dealing an uppercut.

[BANG!]

Blocky's vision shifted about, seeing multiple versions of Derrick before itself, who spun about a couple of times, gaining power for a-

Blocky reacted by punching the heel of the foot.

[BOOOOM!]

The fist and leg collided, releasing a visible shockwave that caused a crater to manifest below them.

They both flew out the opposite direction in a blur.

Blocky instantly got up and looked for Derrick. His eyes darted left and right, but not seeing the figure in sight.

In the distance, Derrick ran away when they both flew out while running to the hill in haste.

"I can't waste any more time:!"

He said, parkouring across the trees with a worried expression.
