{Chapter continues}

Jane Kent walked on a barren wasteland, the sound of living creatures nonexistent as she cautiously transversed these lands.

[Ooo- voodoo- wahhhh!]

An unnerving sound permeated the forest as Jane kent passed through the dark landscape.

The trees in forest looked black as coal and the soil resembled the color of blood with its red hell-like theme

"ɿɘvɘilɘd non ɘʜɈ ,looʇ ɘʜɈ ,ϱnivɿɘnnυ ɘʜT

ƨlliʞƨ ɿiɘʜɈ bɘɈdυob ɿɘvɘilɘdnon ɘʜT,"

Jane chanted a mysterious combination of words causing the environment to gradually distort.

"I hope for once that man was right in something!"

She kept walking, feeling dizzy as she passed. It started to seem like the trees were laughing at her--mocking her.

"It better be rig-"

She felt all her senses leave her as darkness clouded her vision like a shadow.

.

"Madame, wake up! Did you hit your head? Madame!"

Jane slowly opened her eyes, seeing the blurry figure of a young boy as he called her out while squatting.

"Where did you come from?" Jane said, now seeing the figure of the child in full view.

It was a young boy with black hair and blue eyes wearing a white tunic and red leather leggings.

"Madame, I am from the village a few miles from here."

The boy said, pointing in a direction and continuing.

"My father and I come this far to hunt for food, but it's not always safe around here- so we normally leave at midnight!"

"Hmm, I see," Jane said as she stood up and dusted, pausing mid-way as she looked at her dress.

The hood and armor that she wore had disappeared, replaced with a white leather dress and white silky gloves on her hand.

"I can't feel my power and my equipment! Neither can I feel my mana. What the hell happened?… useless father!!! How would this help me get back to Ja-Adrian? If anything, I am now further away." Jane complained as she tightened her fist in anger.

"Ma'am, I hope what I said didn't make you mad by chance?" The boy said with panic in his tone.

"What? Oh no! My rage isn't directed toward you—just a selfish bastard who I had the displeasure of associating with."

Jane answered in a kind tone before asking,

"So, what's your name? Mine is Jane."

"Ma'am, my father said not to tell my name to strangers, he told me stories about how they could curse you, causing your eyes to fall off, and maggots ro fall out!"

The mysterious boy said, shaking his head left and right before,

"Chucker!!! Where are you?"

The voice of a man sounded, and Jane's face morphed into a chuckle while the boy hid his face in his cloth.

"Is that you? Chucker!"

Jane said back, failing to hold the laughter.

"I don't know who that is-"

"Chucker, where are you? This deer won't hunt itself."

The voice screamed out again, and the boy then shouted, "Am here, Papa!"

After a few seconds, a massive chubby man with a lot of red facial hair while wearing brown leather armor.

He held a large war ax and a deer in his other hand. The deer looked like it had been cut in the center by a bladed weapon.

"Hunter!?" Jane said while unsure as she looked at this 7 feet tall man and heavily doubted he wasn't some warrior.

"Chucker, answer me when called for Nomalla's sake!" the massive man said with a deep raspy voice.

"Papa, I didn't want this woman to know that was my name!"

Chucker said in distress.

"Oh yes, why is a noble lady like you doing in this forest? Are you looking for someone? Or… are you from here?"

The man questioned, staring deep into Jane's eyes with caution.

"Good questions, but won't it be more suitable if you tell me your name first? Or do you also think I will curse you?"

Janes replied, dodging the question till further notice.

"Hmmh"

The man seemed to be contemplating the decision. He took a couple of seconds before he answered.

"Hold my axe!"

The man ordered, and Jane quickly agreed as she moved forward. The moment she touched it, a burning feeling came from the weapon, making her immediately remove her hand.

The man's shoulders relaxed as he said, "Baldur Hunger. That is my name—May I inquire on yours, Miss."

"Jane Kent"

Jane answered with a bow.

"I see, Miss Kent, Jane Kent! Well, it's getting dark out here. I urge you to follow us to our cabin, or would you prefer to be left alone?"

Baldur said politely.

"What is in these woods that makes you so…afraid? I see it in your son, and I can see it in you."

Jane inquired with her head tilted.

Baldur looked at his son and signed before saying,

"He told you we were hunters, but did he tell you what we hunt?"

"No… What do you hunt?"

Jane replied, paying careful attention to his next set of words.

Silence shrouded the forest as the complexion of Baldur darkened and a dark aura emitted from him.

"We hunt the beings that can't be, can not be glimpsed, and can not be heard."

Baldur's voice became deeper with each word he uttered.

"We drag them down to our level and slay them where they stand, all to bring back normalcy to our realm–Hail Normalla."

[BOOOM!!]

Baldur said while raising his war axe to the sky, causing lightning to strike, his eye flashing white for a second.

"That Miss Kent– is what we hunt!"

Baldur then completed as he turned his back on her and walked away.

"I am off to the cabin all that talk got me hungry and for rum of course hahaha!"

"I see, very well then."

Jane said as she followed him, with Chucker falling in last.
