As the two of them were basically face to face, the attacks they had both prepared turned out to only be a single one.
Wrath's rapier shot up, piercing through the rabbit-like head of the creature in a swift action while the creature slammed one of its remaining hooves against her chest in a sudden reaction to the mortal wound.
Wrath was sent back, crashing into a wall as some blood seeped from her mouth while she coughed up, this was sure to have broken some bones.
She should have checked her condition but against all reason, the beast was still standing, the rapier still through its head.
The system had announced her that she had killed the corrupted champion but it wasn't dropping down.
The rabbit head of the monster was limp, unmoving, with a movement, it was sent back to hang off the chest has something seemed to be moving inside.
The flesh moved and ruptured as a visage appeared from it, its beautiful light blue eyes gazing forward, the eyes were calm and collected, serene and patient, they lacked the beastly madness of the monster.
"Aah..." the face made a sound as two more things seemed to be moving from the beneath the monster's flesh.
Two arms sprouted out in the same way the face had, one holding firmly onto a thin longsword.
"I never let go of you, my companion" spoke the face as Wrath struggled to pull herself up.
He grabbed the handle of the sword with both hands, placing its blade before his own face as it lit up in a calm blue light, revealing the face of Sir Edwind, who had been trapped but untainted by the corruption or so it appeared.
With a fast swing, he cleaved of the monstruous rabbit head tossing it to Wrath's feets, allowing her to retrieve her rapier.
Most of the monsters legs went limp, leaving only two as Edwind stood tall with the body of the monster, holding himself like a true swordsman despite the corruption.
"As always, Patience paid off" he muttered as he rose the sword above his head, swinging it down and releasing a slow but deadly slam of light blue energy.
Wrath moved away as she analysed her new opponent, as it appeared, his body had been encased in corruption, it seemed like the monster Edwind had defeated had truly been unable to get to him and had only been able to defeat the swordsman through another mean.
There was no animosity in Edwind movements, each of his movements could kill but with no killing intent, it was simple to guess that he wasn't hoping for his strikes to hit home.
Since he could swarm the area with his light blue energy, Wrath had no choice but to close the gap and engage him in a close confrontation.
The two of them fenced with grace, their movements looking less like a bloody fight and more like an elaborate dance as no attacks had yet to land.
Something was strange about this fight for Wrath, she was slowly learning Edwind's style and would surely be able to strike him at one point but it didn't feel right.
Wrath could no longer feel angry when facing Edwind with his full mind, how could she be wrathful at the sight of a swordsman who had waited trapped in the body of beast for so long and still retained his skills?
That was what was strange, Edwind was clearly still able to fight at his peak but he wasn't, his strikes were powerful and fast enough to overtake thousands but he was still holding back.
The reason for this was simple, Edwind had nothing to gain by winning, there was only the promise of eventually being consumed again by the corruption, in a duel, the stake was the life of the two participants but Edwind was already dead.
Their duel stretched out for a while, the glow of the longsword was dimming bit by bit.
The saber and longsword clashed for second and the rapier pierced through the chest of the fallen hero.
A small sigh escaped his lips has the rapier pierced through his heart.
A soft smile formed on his lips as he felt his blood slowly halting its movement and his heart hating its beating.
He wasn't going to die immediately for his vitality and constitution were at unimaginable numbers now but without his will to support them, this wound would kill him for certain.
He could have still fought just as fiercely has before but this strike signaled his defeat, he stopped and rested on his longsword, his companion during all of his life, his partner in hardship and friend.
This sword had been his light and mentor for all his life and now was time to say true farewells.
The corrupted hero looked at Wrath who was standing before him, her swords sheathed.
"Wrathful one, what was it that you sought?" he asked her, she was surprised that he knew that she was Wrath but responded nonetheless.
"I am looking to retrieve my name and the memories alongside it" she answered, ever since her awakening as Wrath, her past life was a complete blur.
She did not know where her skills had come from, why an iron spike was driven through her left eye, why the thing that angered did and why the thing that did not anger her did.
Normally, this kind of treatment was only reserved to everyone but the sin in person, everyone would forget their name including the sin but not the memories of the past.
Wrath had come here without knowing why this place in particular, it had simply felt like the right thing to do, to come here and challenge Edwind.
"Ah, Sin, your memory loss isn't linked to Wrath that I can be certain of, you must trust that the body has remembered what the mind forgot, do not be afraid and fly away" spoke Edwind has he offered his sword to Wrath.
"You may not remember anything for a very long while but do not worry, unlike your predecessor, you aren't that sort of wrath, yours is rightful, meaning that you can exerce patience" he continued as he placed the sword in her hands.
"Would you kindly hold onto this sword for me? I fear that I can not take anything with me after that" he said, his voice slowly growing weaker.
"If you ever run into the new Patience, show them that you too have patience in your heart and give them that sword if they require it" his next words sounded as nothing more than a whisper.
"Now go and make sure to fly away" were his words before quickly being overtaken by the words of the system as it rang in Wrath's ears.
