Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

So it was Saturday!.

"Finally!" Dianne had screamed the second she woke up that morning.

It was shocking how she was so energetic early in the morning. She slept in Alexis' room so she woke her up immediately she awake. Alexis was so frustrated and Candace was pissed but there was no way Dianne could hide her excitement. They woke up 7am but the party was to start at 11 so by 10 they started getting ready.

Dianne had taken about three hours to figure out what she was going to wear the night before while Alexis just picked something out of her closet.

So by 11:30 they were dressed and ready to go but then something came up. Dianne got a call, Alexis didn't really understand what it was about but she knew Dianne had some work to attend to. Some nerd shit.

She was so pissed, of all days to be disturbed by school work, the day of the October party!!!??!!.

"Don't your nerdy friends know what's happening today?" Alexis asked as they stepped out of the room around 12pm.

They had decided that Dianne would quickly attend to her work and then join Alexis at the party.

"Why would they care?" Dianne shot back. "They've devoted their lives to books" she added

"Good thing you aren't like that" Alexis began "I wouldn't even be friends with you" she laughed

"I'm only friends with them cuz they're super smart they help a lot" Dianne told her. "Can't believe I forgot about this assignment, we could have done this yesterday" she added.

"Can't you move it till tomorrow?" Alexis questioned.

"Ain't no way I'm working on a Sunday" Dianne replied sharply.

By this time, they were already at the main entrance. Alexis pushed the door open and they stepped out.

"So how long is this gonna take?" Alexis asked.

"Should take about..." Dianne was saying.

"Dianna!" A masculine voice yelled interrupting her.

"Oh jeez" she sighed already knowing who it was.

She turned to face the guy who was already speed walking towards her.

"Who's that?" Alexis whispered

The guy finally got to them and he paused to catch his breath. He looked like..., Well what nerds look like.

"Hi" he said finally.

"Hi" Dianne replied, forcing a smile. "Alexis, this is Jonah" she said "Jonah, meet my friend Alexis" she added.

"Hi" Alexis smiled.

"Nice to meet you" Jonah replied.

"Hmm mmm"

"So are we gonna go now, or..." He asked adjusting his round framed glasses.

"Yeah" Dianne replied and she turned to Alexis. "I'll catch up with you" she said and she began to walk away with Jonah.

"Call me when you're done" Alexis told her.

"Ok" she replied and Alexis turned to begin her journey to the basketball court.

She could already hear the music and she wondered how loud it would be inside the place if it was already that loud outside.

She wore a short fitted flower patterned red gown with a pair of black sneakers and her hair packed into a ponytail. It might have not been the best choice but Alexis was ok with it. She wasn't such a party person until she got to Bevard and met Emanie who seemed be invited to all the parties. Noah would freak out if he knew what she had been up to, so would her mum and a part of her felt like it wasn't a good idea but another part wanted to make the most of college. She didn't want it to be like highschool.

Soon she got to the entrance of the basketball court and the music was even louder, her ears were popping.

She tried to step in but she was stopped by a guy standing at the door way. He was dressed in all black and he looked like he was just a little above Alexis' age.

"It's seniors only" He said to her "beat it freshman" he added.

"Excuse me?" She questioned pulling back her head. He was being rude as hell.

"Are you deaf or something?" He fired back. "Seniors only!" He added.

"I was invited" she said.

"Then I'm gonna have to see an invitation" he replied.

"They made invitation cards?" She questioned. "Well I don't have one" she told him.

"If you're not a senior, then you're gonna need an invitation" he explained.

"I was invited by Emanie" she said. That name suddenly sounded powerful to her.

"Yeah right" he scoffed. "Beat it freshman" he continued. "I'm not going to repeat myself" he added frankly.

Alexis huffed and raised her phone to call Emanie. It rang for a while and he eventually picked up.

"Hey, are you still coming?" He asked before Alexis could say anything. "I don't see you" he added screaming a bit cuz the music was really loud inside.

"There's a problem at the entrance" She told him. "Your bouncer won't let me in" she added.

She purposely said bouncer to piss the guy off but he didn't seem to mind being called a bouncer. He looked ok with it.

"Just tell him Cavalero invited you" Emanie said.

"I already said that, he still won't let me in" Alexis replied.

"Give the phone to him"

"Ok"

Alexis stretched the phone out to the guy but he just shook his head.

"I'm not speaking to anybody" He said.

"He said he's not speaking to anybody" Alexis told Emanie, pulling the phone back to her ear.

"Give me a minute" Emanie replied right before he hung up.

"You better leave, you're only wasting your time out here, I'm not falling for any of your tricks" The guy said to Alexis.

"Mkay" Alexis replied folding her arms.

About ten seconds later, the door was carefully opened from inside and Emanie stepped out.

There was a short silence and the guy's eyes widened in realization. Emanie looked at him, then at Alexis and then back at him.

"What's your name?" He asked.

"Jamal" he replied.

"Who hired you?" Emanie questioned.

"Uh... You did, Emanie" He replied, stuttering a bit.

"Oh right" Emanie began with a short laugh. "I remember your boxy face" he added, dipping his hand into his pocket to slip out his phone. He tapped it for a while and then raised it up to his ear. "Hey, please send David down here" he said to whoever he was on the phone with and then hung up and slipped his phone back into his pocket. "Come on Alexis" he said to her.

You know that triumphant feeling, yeah that's how she felt as she walked towards Emanie.

"And Jamal..." He began facing him. "You're fired" he added and he walked in before Jamal could say anything to defend himself.

"Should have listened to me" Alexis said to Jamal right before she walked in behind Emanie.

The place was crowded. Music blasted from the huge speakers in every corner of the court. Like the noise from the speakers wasn't enough, the people were screaming. Something was probably going but Alexis didn't know, yet. Emanie even said something to her but she couldn't hear him.

"What did you say?!" She screamed.

"Come on!" He yelled back, grabbing her by her wrist.

He pulled her through the crowd. They walked for a while, the court looked bigger than it was the last time she came.

They finally got to a corner and Emanie stopped.

Some guys stood there with their backs against the wall and wine glasses in their hands.

"Guys this is Alexis" Emanie introduced her.

"Hi" she smiled, waving.

"Sup" one of them replied.

"Who's she?" Another one asked Emanie.

"A friend" Emanie replied and he slipped his hands around Alexis' waist.

She felt her stomach do a summersault.

"For now" Emanie added turning to face her.

Then she felt uncomfortable.

"I get it" one of the guys smiled and he picked up a bottle of wine and empty cup from a table right beside them.

He poured a portion of the wine into the cup and stretched it to Alexis.

"Wine?" He offered.

"Thanks" she smiled, taking the cup from him.

"We all look forward to getting to know you" the guy said. "Welcome" he added.

It was exactly 2:37pm. Dianne had just finished with what she was doing and she was almost at the court. The assignment took so much longer than she thought she would and she could barely focus cuz the party was all she could think about. Jonah almost lost his patience because she kept zoning out.

She was super excited and she had never been happier to be friends with Alexis even though she warned her against her about Emanie but whatever.

Soon, she got to the entrance of the court and she was immediately stopped by the guy at the door.

"David?" She questioned with a smile, backing up a bit to get a good look at the guy.

"Dianne" the guy replied, his face lighting up.

"Whoa, been a long time dude" Dianne said slightly punching his shoulder.

"Damn," the guy began. "Where have you been?" He questioned. "I mean, I see Amarr sometimes but I never see you" he added.

Of course she knew the guy at the entrance.

"I don't know man, guess we just never crossed paths" she replied. "But damn!, So good to see you again " she added.

"Yeah, you too " David began. "So, you got an invitation?" She questioned.

"Yeah" she replied. "Well no, I didn't get a card but I was invited by Emanie himself" she explained. "Well not Emanie himself, it was kind of an indirect invitation but trust me I was invited " she added.

"Is this another one of your schemes?" David asked with both eyebrows raised.

"No" she replied. "Come on bro, you know me better than that, I would never go where I'm not welcomed" she added.

"Oh really?" He questioned, raising his eyebrows even higher.

"Ok maybe sometimes, but this time I promise I was invited " she said. "In fact, I'll call my friend now" she continued, slipping her hand into her pocket to bring out her phone. She called Alexis but she didn't pick up. "Shit" she muttered and she dialled the number again but she still didn't pick up. "Damnit"

"Any problem?" David questioned.

"My friend isn't picking up"

"Oh it's fine, I've got Cavalero's number" David began. "Since he invited you, you wouldn't have a problem with me calling him out here, would you?" He asked

"Oh jeez" she sighed.

'that mf' she thought.

"Yeah call him" she told David and he immediately slipped out his phone.

She and Emanie were definitely not friend but she knew if she explained herself, there was no way he wouldn't let her in.

"Hey Cavalero..." David began immediately Emanie picked up the call. "Someone is out here saying you invited them" he added.

She had no idea what Emanie said but David just slipped his phone back into his pocket.

"What did he say?" Dianne asked

"He's on his way" David replied.

'oh jeez' she thought.

It was one thing to not be friends with someone and it was another thing to be mortal enemies. It was safe to say she and Emanie were mortal enemies.

Soon, the door flung open and Emanie stepped out.

"You?" He questioned immediately saw her.

Dianne just sighed and rolled her eyes.

Emanie turned to David. "I don't know who the fuck she is" he added and he turned to walk back in.

"Hold on!" Dianne yelled bringing him to a halt.

"What?" He questioned.

"Lex invited me" she told him.

Just then Alexis stepped out.

"Oh see, there she is" Dianne said pointing. "You told her she could bring any of her friends"

"Took you long enough" Alexis replied. "Come on, the party is awesome!" She added.

"Hold on" Emanie began before Dianne could even take a step forward. "I can't let you in" he added.

"Why not?" Alexis questioned.

"It's seniors and indigenes only" Emanie said.

"Excuse me?" Dianne questioned drawing her head backwards.

"Yeah, you know, to avoid any form of lunatic display" Emanie replied.

'No he didn't just say that' Alexis thought. She knew it was about to go down. Dianne was about to explode and try to beat the shit out of Emanie.

"Lunatic display?" She questioned and she gave a short laugh.

"What, now you're gonna attack me? As always?" Emanie shot back.

"All in due time" Dianne replied. "But now, if you're not gonna let me in, I'm taking Lex and we're leaving" she added. Somehow it was supposed to be a threat.

"That's not yours to decide" Emanie told her.

"Oh really, isn't it?" She questioned. "Come on Lex" she continued. "Let's get out of here" she added.

Alexis just kept mute and stared back at her.

"Lex" Dianne called.

"I'm sorry" she replied. "I have to stay" she added.

"What?" Dianne questioned

"It's just..." Alexis began. "I'm having so much fun and..." She was saying.

"Alexis" Dianne called raising her voice a little bit.

You could tell she was serious cuz she never called her Alexis.

"I'm sorry" she replied. "I'll catch up with you later" she added.

"Told you " Emanie shrugged with a smile on his face and Alexis saw

"Alexis did you hear what he said to me?" Dianne questioned. "I've always had your back!"

"Dianne, I'm really sorry, I just..." She was saying.

"It's fine, I get it" Dianne cut her short and she immediately turned her back to walk away.

As she walked away, she expected Alexis to change her mind and run up to her but that didn't happen. All she heard was Emanie's laughter as she left.
