"Pack your hair" Noah said frankly.
Yeah, he wasn't born yesterday. Alexis sighed and slipped her rubber band off her wrist. She packed her hair into a ponytail and folded her arms. Noah walked towards her to get a closer look at what was on her neck. Then he took two steps backwards to stare at her with his hands in his pockets. Alexis couldn't really tell if he was angry or confused. There was an awkward silence.
"What's that?" He asked finally.
"I burnt myself with a curling iron" she replied immediately.
Where did that lie come from? She had no idea. Usually, she was a terrible liar but when it came to things like that, she didn't even have to think too hard. It was simple survival instincts.
"Oh, it must have really hurt" Noah said.
"Yeah, but I'm fine" Alexis replied with a smile of relief.
'phew' she thought.
"Did it happen recently?" He questioned
"Yeah" she replied.
"Then why is your hair so straight tho?" He asked stepping closer to her. "You must think I'm so stupid" he added.
"Noah..."
"Who did that?" He asked.
"Noah listen." Alexis began. "You can't keep treating me like this." She continued. "I'm eighteen. I'm an adult for fuck sake!" She added. "You don't have to look after me, I can take care of myself"
"It was that nigga wasn't it?" Noah asked ignoring her little speech.
"What?" She questioned.
"Amarr" Noah said.
Before Alexis could respond, Noah stepped out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
"Oh jeez" she rolled her eyes.
She picked up her turtleneck and waited for Noah to come back but he didn't. Then she left the room and went into Noah's room but he wasn't there either.
"Where's my brother?" She asked one of them.
"He just went out to do something." One of them replied.
"Yeah, something about giving Amarr a piece of his mind" another one said.
"Shit" Alexis muttered and she dashed out of the room.
He was going to talk to Amarr.
"Noah!" She yelled as she ran down the stairs and into the second floor. She saw him standing in front of Amarr's room. "Noah!" She yelled again before he could knock but he still knocked anyways.
He turned back to face her as she walked towards him.
She knew no one was gonna open the door cuz it was time for Amarr's basketball practice.
"What the fuck are you trying to do?" She asked him.
"I'm gonna tell that son of a bitch, I don't appreciate him leaving his marks on my sister" He replied.
"Are you listening to yourself?" Alexis asked him. "you're making me sound so stupid" she said.
"I'm making you sound stupid?" Noah questioned. "Alexis, you are stupid" he told her.
"I'm not a kid!" She yelled at him. "stop treating me like one. I can take care of myself, I know exactly what I'm doing" she told him.
"You know, this is so funny cuz the last time you said that was when you were with Adam" Noah began. "And how did that turn out?" He asked.
"You're really going to remind me about that?" She asked.
"Yes!" He yelled back. "I don't want you to forget about the last time you claimed to know what you were doing" he replied.
"Well, I've learnt from that ok?" She began. "I'm smarter now and I can deal with my own issues" she told him.
"Oh you're smarter now?" He questioned. "And you let him give you that?" He continued pointing to the hickey. "On your neck where the whole world can see" he added . "Next time I see that nigga, I'm giving him a piece of my mind" he concluded turning his back to walk away.
"It wasn't even Amarr" she said and he immediately turned back.
"So who?" He asked.
"That's none of your business" she replied. "Just didn't want you to make a fool of yourself in front of Amarr" she added.
"Ok first of all, the nerve you have talking to me like that" he began. "second, if you don't tell me who the motherfucker is, I'm calling mum and telling her you came to Bevard just to be a hoe" he added.
"You wouldn't." She said.
"You wanna dare me?" He questioned.
Alexis sighed. "Fine" she began. "He's a senior" she told him.
"A senior?" He questioned. "Are you kidding me?" He continued. "Please tell me it's not Cavalero" he added and Alexis just kept mute. "Fuck, it's him" he muttered.
"Noah..."
"That asshole?" He questioned, raising his voice. "That's who you're fucking with?"
"Nothing..."
"Shut up!" He yelled. Then he sighed and walked away.
"Shit" Alexis muttered and she turned to walk away. She might have ruined Noah's birthday.
Before she could take a step forward, Amarr's door flung open and he stepped out. She immediately froze. She was still in Noah's shirt and her hair was still packed.
Amarr wore a pair of black shorts and a sleeveless blue shirt. He had a basketball under his arm and he wore a black headband.
He took about ten seconds to stare at Alexis' neck. Then he closed his door and began to walk away.
"Amarr!" She called but he didn't respond. He just walked down the stairs.
"Shit" she muttered and she ran after him, down to the first floor. "Amarr!" She called him again and he finally turned back to face her.
"What do you want?" He asked.
"Amarr" she said softly.
"What?" He asked and he glanced at her neck again. "Mosquito bite uhn?" He questioned.
"I wanted..." She was saying.
"Do I mean nothing to you?" He asked cutting her short. "I mean, you could have at least told me you didn't feel the same way so I wouldn't waste my time" he continued.
"I do" she said
"If you did, your mosquito bite would really be a mosquito bite Alexis" he told her.
"I'm sorry" she said
"For what?" He asked sharply. "If you're into fuck boys that's your business not mine. You don't have to be sorry about it" he continued. "I just really thought we had something going on" he added and Alexis just kept mute, her eyes getting teary. "I feel so stupid right now" he began again. "I mean, I said I love you, you said you love me and then you went ahead to give yourself to Cavalero?" He continued. "that's messed up" he added and he turned his back to leave.
"Amarr " she called and he turned back to face her.
Tears were already trickling down her cheeks.
Amarr dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out an handkerchief. Then he handed it to her and walked away immediately.
Yeah, tears don't work everytime.
*****
It was about thirty minutes later. Alexis sat on her bed in her room and she was still crying.
Things had gotten much worse. Dianne was mad, Amarr was mad, Blake and Wayne were mad cuz Dianne was mad and she ruined Noah's birthday.
Bad things just kept happening.
About that time, the door flung open and Candace walked in with her backpack hanging from her left shoulder.
"Alexis are you ok?" She asked immediately.
Alexis immediately wiped her tears, she didn't need Candace's possibly fake sympathy.
"Oh my God you're crying" She said walking towards her. "Amarr found out didn't he?" She asked.
Alexis didn't want to tell her but she would still find out anyway so she just nodded.
"Yeah, I knew something was up when I saw how angry he was." Candace began crouching down beside her. "We kept asking what was going on but he wouldn't tell any of us" she continued. "You should be happy he's not telling anyone cuz if Blake and Wayne find out about this, it's over" she added.
Alexis didn't give any response. She just kept crying, it was something she was really good at.
"I've known Amarr for over a year now and he has always been a really chill guy, never gets angry" Candace began. "But when he does, that's when you know you fucked up" she said. "I actually feel kinda bad , it must feel so terrible to have everyone's back turned against you" She continued. "Anyways, when I saw that Amarr was angry, I already knew what was going on so I got you something" she added and Alexis finally raised her head to face her.
Candace dropped her backpack and unzipped. She brought out three boxes of tissues and placed them beside Alexis on her bed.
"You're gonna need those..." She began, zipping up her bag. "Cuz this is just the beginning" she added chuckling a bit as she stood up to her feet. "Sorry Alexis but when you play shitty games, you win shitty prizes" she told her.
Y'all thought she was finally warming up to Alexis didn't you?. Nahhh.
