It was the next day and Alexis was beginning to see the reason why she should have made friends in her own class. The only person who was talking to her was Candace who was constantly reminding her how terrible the situation was. The guilt was killing her.
The first lecturer stepped out and the hall immediately became rowdy. Some students were leaving while others sat back chatting. Of course Alexis packed up her books and got up to leave.
She had decided to ignore Emanie but then she realized it might not be the best idea cuz whether she liked it or not, it was then she needed him the most. She had really gotten herself into a lot of shit .
She got to the door and turned back to look at the class. It was rowdy. Students sat in groups, discussing and laughing loudly. Only if she had made friends there.
She turned and stepped out of the class ready to head to then next hall. Then she crashed into Noah.
"Noah??" She questioned with furrowed eyebrows. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Come with me" Noah replied, ignoring her questions.
He grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her straight out of the building.
"Noah!" She yelled as he finally let go of her.
"Shut up for a minute ok?" She shot back and Alexis folded her arms. "I need to warn you" he began firmly. "I don't know what happened between you and that son of a bitch and I don't really wanna know but let this be the last time" he continued. "Stay away from him" he concluded.
"Why?" She asked
"You see, this..." Noah began. "this is why you're stupid" he added.
"Can you not talk to me like that?"
"At this point, calling you stupid isn't even an insult" Noah began. "Amarr is a junior isn't he?" He questioned. "I am so damn sure he has said something about Emanie but of course, you stupidly ignored" he continued. "Emanie is just Adam all over again" he added.
"You're wrong" She began. "They are nothing alike" she added.
"Seriously?" Noah questioned, obviously getting tired of her. "you know what, I don't gotta explain shit to you." He continued. "I'm older and this is my fourth year in Bevard so when I say something, you listen. " He added.
"And what if I don't?" She questioned.
"If you won't listen to me who has seen it all, I bet you'll listen to mum who I am so damn sure is gonna come straight down here after I tell her her daughter came to Bevard just to get repeatedly fucked by someone three years above her" He replied. "your choice Alexis" he concluded and immediately walked away.
Alexis just rolled her eyes and turned to walk back into the building. She was so tired of Noah threatening her with their mum.
'grow up' she thought as she rolled her eyes again.
*****
Soon it was Saturday and Alexis was getting really miserable. Turns out college isn't so fun when you have no friends. In fact it's frustrating, really frustrating.
The guys seemed so happy each time she saw them but she didn't have the guts to approach them. The day before she had tried but once she got to the door, she just couldn't do it. Even Candace was always with them now, it felt like she hadn't been waiting for Alexis to slip up.
She still talked to Emanie over the phone but she never met up with him and not just because Noah had threatened her, she really didn't want to.
Anyways. It was the day of Amarr's big game. Well, the team's big game but whatever.
Alexis had decided she would make up with him that day so of course she went to the game, just like he had asked. In fact she was so early, she sat in the front row.
She hadn't really watched a basketball game before so she found it hard to keep up. All she knew was, everyone on orange was on Amarr's team so if anyone of them scores, that's a point for the team. Although nobody really scored except Amarr, Emanie and one other dude.
Alexis sat in the front row so Amarr would see she came but he hadn't even glanced at her since the game had started. Maybe he had seen her and didn't want to look at her or he didn't even know she was there at all, Alexis didn't know. She felt so invisible. Emanie on the other hand had been smiling at her throughout.
Amarr's team started the game really well. They were dominating right from the start but soon the other team caught up with them and the scores became equal. Amarr looked so tensed and so did Emanie, so did the coach.
'like how the fuck did they catch up!?'
Amarr's team was like ten points ahead buy still they equalized.
There was only a little time left and everybody was trying their best to score at least once. At a point, one of the players from the other team had the ball and was going to score but Amarr was right on his tail ready to take the ball from him or at least block the goal.
"Snatch it Amarr!!!" Dianne yelled from the crowd.
Yeah, she had been yelling throughout the game. She sat in the middle row with Wayne, Blake and Candace. It was really amazing how loud she could scream. She looked just as tensed as the players.
Just then, Amarr snatched the ball and Dianne cheered. Alexis wasn't so good at yelling so all she did was clap, hoping Amarr would just notice she was there and he did.
As he was about to start running towards the other team's hoop to try to score, he caught a glimpse of Alexis in the corner of his eye. He stopped abruptly and turned to face her.
She just kept on clapping with a smile on her face. He had really wanted Alexis to watch him play but after what she did, smiling back would have been so insincere.
He was gonna turn back to run towards the hoop and just as he did, a player from the other team snatched the ball from him and threw it straight into the hoop.
'shit' Alexis thought.
"What!?" Dianne yelled.
Amarr sighed and dropped his head to stare at the ground with his hands on his waist. He looked so disappointed in himself.
"Get your head in the game Claypole!" The coach yelled at Amarr.
That was his last name. Yeah, he didn't like to talk about it.
Amarr turned to look at Alexis' guilty face but he immediately looked away and ran up the court.
Just then, the whistle was blown and the game was brought to an end. Time was up.
The other team won.
The coach sighed and walked up to his team. (Amarr's team) "Good game, good game" he said, didn't sound like he meant it tho. "y'all tried your best" he added.
The team members just grumbled and some walked away, wiping sweat off their foreheads. The crowd was already streaming out of the venue and most of them didn't look so happy, they were obviously supporting the school team.
"Amarr, what was that all about?" The coach asked him. "That was a huge opportunity you had, we could have won" he added.
"I'm sorry coach" he began. "I just got distracted" he added.
"It's fine" the coach replied. "We have more games coming up" he added.
Amarr was so pissed. It looked like he was going to punch the next person to walk up to him. And who might that be, of course, Alexis.
He had his back turned to her so she had to tap him.
"Hi" she began as he turned to face her.
"Hi" he replied with no emotion.
"You were really good on the court" she said.
"Thanks"
"I really thought you guys were going to win" she told him.
"Oh really?" He questioned raising his eyebrows. "I thought so too" he added.
"Sorry about the game" she began "I know you guys will win the other ones coming up" she added.
"Thanks" he began. "But I think you should go comfort Emanie instead. I don't think he would be so happy about the loss either" he added and he immediately walked away.
"Well that was horrible" Alexis muttered and she turned to walk away. She was almost at the door when she heard Dianne.
"Amarr!" Dianne yelled and Alexis turned back to see.
Dianne ran down to Amarr and pulled him into a tight hug obviously trying to console him. He gave a short laugh and patted her head but soon Blake came around and he pulled Dianne away from him, hitting him with a water bottle. Blake pulled her into his arms and gave Amarr the middle finger. Amarr just rolled his eyes.
Wayne and Candace were also there and they chatted indistinctly.
Alexis sighed and just as she was about to turn to leave, she felt someone grab her waist from behind.
"Hi" Emanie smiled immediately she turned back to face him.
