Chapter 16 - Death of the Prairie State

As fires consumed the entire state the various factions tried to live out their last days. The Raiders who launched the nukes, spent their last days drunk and high, not a care in the world was to what they'd done. The Bunker managed to release the Starved Gorgon into the wild but their last breath followed shortly as a nuke slammed into the open door, killing everyone inside. Chicago had fallen silent as deathly high radiation levels had killed off the Raiders there, only a few had managed to find an old fallout shelter where they would ride out the destruction.

ODTA had a different plan. The Seneca preppers had been busy building shelters for their friends in the ODTA area. They moved vehicles, documents, supplies, and more as sirens blared as the wave was two days away from their location. The air was already becoming unbreathable and black rain fell all over. The Ghost sat in the Reddick Mansion for a few hours looking over the city center he'd once walked from to clear his mind before the war; the apartment he once rented; the theatre he'd frequented with his family. He looked at the empty mansion and stood up. It was time to go.

As the Ghost entered the old Ottawa Savings Bank, now the refuge for the last of ODTA, they sealed the doors, all of his belongings had been transferred from the old Reddick Mansion down into the OSB Vault nicknamed Lincoln's Last Stand. As the sirens fell silent, the wind began to pick up, pushing over trees and buildings damaged by the first bombs. Then came the fire wave, the Seneca preppers had soaked the Mansion and the other historical landmarks in fire retardant in the hopes of preserving them but ODTA was engulfed in flames. Buildings burnt to the ground in minutes, and streetlight melted into burnt puddles leaving shadows of what used to be. ODTA had been reduced to a fiery wasteland once again, and the survivors had hunkered down for the long hall.

As fire spread across the state, a man watched from his bunker, as fires destroyed the state he called home. He zoomed in on a screen, a traffic cam caught The Ghost leaving the mansion. The man zoomed in again. "Well, well, seems that the Ghost still lives." said the man as he tossed an empty can of Busch beer into a stack behind his chair. "We'll see how you fair once those doors open again.....Old Friend."
