Chereads / The Star Archer Knight Chronicles / Chapter 13 - Floating Island

Chapter 13 - Floating Island

The large geese ridden by Friks and Kaytrin continued to fly across the sky, occasionally breaking through the clouds that floated like colorful cotton. The clouds in the sky of Aeros were literally like cotton candy. Friks, who was afraid at beginning of their flying, slowly began to enjoy traveling in the sky. On Earth, if Friks wanted to fly, he would have to use an airplane, of course because he can't fly or there wasn't a giant geese like this.

"This is fun! I can feel the wind in my hair and I really like it!" Friks shouted to Kaytrin.

Kaytrin nodded, "Yes, I feel the same way. Flying like this is really fun and exciting!"

Friks reached out with both hands and tried to grab a red cloud that was nearby. He wondered if the cloud was really like cotton candy, or if it was just a collection of condensed water like on Earth. Unfortunately it was same as in the earth, the cloud was condensed water not a real cotton candy.

Kaytrin looked back, worried about Arthure's fate. In all the battles they had fought together, Arthure had never told her to retreat or command her alone to run away like this.

"That knight Leburo's men, he really is very strong, isn't he, Arthure? I've never seen you so worried before." Kaytrin thought. "I hope you're okay and can catch up with us to the Great Oracle palace." Kaytrin continued say to herself.

"Hey what is that?" asked Friks, pointing ahead of them.

In front of them, about two hundred meters away, there was an island floating between the clouds.

"That, Friks, is where the Great Oracle lives!" explained Kaytrin, "That's where we're going!"

"Incredible! It's amazing! I've never seen an island that can float in the air like this! This place is really different from Earth!" said Friks in amazement.

"You're right Friks, Aeros is indeed very different from Earth!"

Kaytrin's great swan flew closer to the floating island, and the closer it got, the more obvious it became that the island completely defied the laws of physics that Friks had known on Earth.

"Wait, what is that? Is that a waterfall? But why does the water flow up and then just disappear when it reaches the top?" Friks was once again amazed by the circumstances and natural phenomena that occurred on Aeros.

"This is all thanks to the magic and spells of the Great Oracle has enchanted, Friks!"

"This Great Oracle is a very great man, isn't he?"

Kaytrin nodded, "That's right, it is even said that she has mastered various kinds of magic and spells that have existed since the creation of Aeros. She is also hundreds and some even say thousands of quarkos old!"

"Wow! How old is she then? Wait so the Great Oracle is a girl" asked Friks.

Kaytrin shook his head, "Yes she is a woman but I wouldn't say if she old or not. You just saw her appearance first then you decide by yourself is she old or not. But she is indeed a master of ancient knowledge and is not affected by the changes of time.

Friks scratched the back of her head, dizzy from Kaytrin's explanation.

"You will see for yourself, Friks. Then you can decide for yourself if the Great Oracle is old or not," Kaytrin said with a gnarled smile.

Approaching the floating island, Kaytrin suddenly stood up and held out her right hand.

"Puntenbu kapanto na!" she chanted.

A streak of light shot out of Kaytrin's palm, and a transparent veil slowly opened in front of them, like a curtain being unrolled. After Kaytrin's great goose passed by, the transparent veil closed as before.

"What is that?" asked Friks in amazement.

"It's a transparent protective dome. Almost all places that are important and inhabited by people of great power in Aeros usually have such a defense system. Only people who have been told the opening spell can pass through it safely. Of course, there is the crude way to break it, but that requires more power and a higher spell than the one made as protection," Kaytrin said.

Friks nodded, though he didn't quite understand what Kaytrin was explaining. But his eyes were soon distracted by the beautiful and breathtaking scenery that lay before them.

"Is that a dragon?" Friks shouted happily, pointing to a hill where he saw several dragons basking in the warm Aeros sun. On Earth, dragons are only myths and legends that exist in works of fiction such as novels or movies. That's why Friks was happy to see dragons with his own eyes.

"That's right, Friks. You know, all the legendary creatures in the stories on Earth are actually real. They used to live on Earth too, but because of the development of progress and people who depend on science and technology. And also people who hunted them for various reasons, so they almost became extinct. So these creatures were brought to Aeros, which is what the Star Archer Knight did in the early days," Kaytrin said.

Friks nodded, so that was the story. All the mythical creatures and those in the legends were real and were brought to Aeros by his great-grandfather to save them from extinction.

"We're almost there! That's where the Great Oracle lives!" Kaytrin pointed ahead.

Friks was once again mesmerized by what he saw. In front of them was a glass palace that was both majestic and elegant.

"This palace is just like the ones I've read about in fairy tales!" said Friks.

"The Great Oracle lives there, Friks!"

Then Kaytrin said something and the big swan floated for a while and then landed nicely in the courtyard of the glass palace.

Friks and Kaytrin jumped off the swan's back.

"Good swan, thanks for the ride!" said Friks.

Kaytrin's big swan looked at Friks and nodded as if to say, "You're welcome!"

Kaytrin patted the swan, which flew straight to a lake not far from the Great Oracle's glass palace.

"We're going in, Friks! The Great Oracle is waiting for you!" Kaytrin invited as she entered the glass palace herself.

The few guards that were there looked at Kaytrin and Friks, they immediately whispered when they saw the star bow that Friks carried in his left hand.

"Is that boy the next Star Archer?" they whispered.
