Chapter 23 - Roles

While they finished eating they talked about useful supplies they could bring and if they should bring any kind of makeshift weapons. After tossing the idea of makeshift weapons they decided they would bring all the sheets and blankets they could carry and leave them hanging on trees as a distraction and decoy.

After Van, Max and Erika finished eating they all decided to head to Erika's room. Here in the cafeteria they could speculate further about possible plans, but they decided it would be best to wait until they were in front of the map.

They arrived at Erika's room soon after they were done eating their dinner where Erika pulled a box from under her bed. Within the box there were some photographs that she quickly flipped over while rummaging through it. A few moments later she pulled out a large folded piece of stock paper.

She turned around while unfolding the stock paper to place it on the bed revealing the map for everyone to see. She then pointed at a drawing of a square building halfway between the middle of the circle encampment and the western border.

Max took out his phone and snapped a photograph of the map, it wasn't against the rules for the orphans to have phones but 95% of them didn't. Only those that had school friends that wanted to talk usually would have a phone or those that stole them or had their own methods like Max.

While pointing at the building Erika said, "This is the dormitory we currently stay at we're closest to the western border but I think it would be safer for to escape at the southern border."

"Why wouldn't it be faster if we just escaped from the west side? The longer we take the more inherently dangerous it will become." Van asked in a confused tone he couldn't think of any situation where getting out of there as fast as possible wasn't the best option.

"We'll they know we're closest to the west gate so it's obviously likely that they'd have the most preventative measures on this side, I'd even guess exiting to the east would take the longest but be the safest option." Max threw in his thoughts, it was useful having the experience from 2 lifetimes to help him deal with the stress of his life being on the line he couldn't imagine how Van and Erika were feeling.

"That makes sense… so how should we go about this Erika didn't you say there were robot guard dogs do you know where they usually roam?" Van asked Erika trying to get more details before they started working on their route.

"What Max said is correct as far as I know they move in a horseshoe pattern around the dormitory never going along the east side of the dormitory." The response of Erika's made Van and M ax more thoughtful, why wouldn't they have the guard dog robots do a full circle around the dormitory. Was exiting to the east actually the safest?

"Interesting… Well we can talk about that when we're out there for now I think before we make a exit route we should make roles so when we do have our escape route things can go smoothly and we can properly respond to any situation." Max said, in his past life he was a RPG nerd, he never was famous for his skills but he was infamous in every RPG community he joined for his skill and ability to coach people through any of the most difficult trails and raids once he did it himself.

"I can be the scout, Im probably the fastest of all of us." Van said and this wasn't disputed by Erika or Max they had seen the blazing speed at which he walked through the halls without a doubt he was a speed demon.

"I'll handle intelligence since even without using my ability I still have access to the memories of the staff members I touched so I can tell Van what areas to scout." Erika said since she wasn't to athletic and this role best fit her.

"Good since all of that is decided I'll be the combatant if we come across anything and we have to fight." Max said, Van and Erika weren't too sure if he could actually fight but they trusted that he knew what he was doing.

Like this everyone had a designated role so they knew what they were supposed to do in whatever situation they faced, all that was left was to do was make a designated escape route and then they could gather the things they needed for their escape.

"I think we should leave out our room windows and meet in the bush at the center of the north side of the dormitories." Max again took the lead seeing that Van and Erika might have a stroke thinking too hard.

"Yea that sounds good." Van and Erika said in unison waiting for max to continue.

Seeing this max sighed and started telling them the plan he started devising as soon as he saw the map. Max was aware that multiple students slept with their windows open he planned to use some of the sheets to hang from their windows to make it look like the orphans that were sound asleep in their room were the ones that escaped to send the staff on a wild goose chase after the wrong faces.

Then since the entire base was set up almost like a mini city or college campus he decided they would take the route that had the least amount of light so as to not be spotted, he also got the information on where the transformer room of the base was as he wanted to try cutting the power and teleporting them out.

But after finding out it was in the basement of the HR building he scrapped that idea as the HR building would basically be the hornets nest.
