Power and connections.
AMBER POV
He buttoned his shirt, chuckling wickedly.
"Oh Amber I didn't know that you were that naive I thought you were different."
Tears silently spilled down my cheeks.
"How could you do this to me?" I managed to choke, unable to hide the pain I was going through.
He smiled at me.
The smile that used to make me weak in the knees at work whenever I bumped into him at the office.
"Nothing is free in this wicked world of ours. Did you really think that I'd make you a star and you'd just move on with your life without paying me back?"
"Come on darling, it's about dirty Politics."
He moved closer to my face and I could smell the alcohol on him.
He disgusted me to the point where I wanted to gag.
"It's always a give and take situation."
His smile slowly faded away when our eyes locked.
"I never wanted to force myself on you Amber but you didn't give me much of a choice since you refused to cooperate with me."
He leaned in closer watching me with a keen expression.
"How do you think the other guys made it in the industry? It wasn't about luck or talent, maybe they had the looks but I have the power to make them stars."
"I remember the moment I saw you for the first time. You wore baggy clothes and you were so nervous that day."
"You almost got fired on your first day because you accidentally spilled coffee on my father."
"But I came in and saved you."
"I saw potential in you and I decided to give you a makeover."
"I made you Amber and without me you're nobody."
"You're no one."
I angrily pushed him away.
"You won't get away with this Knox and I'm going to report you to the police."
He chuckled softly.
"Wait what? Do you honestly want to get me arrested?"
"You're dumber than I thought."
"I own this city and when my father retires all his company's and money will be all mine."
He cupped one of cheeks.
"I own the law and I am the law sweetheart."
"The police will always be on my side."
He moved away from me.
"Be my guest Amber and go report me to the police. I'd like to see if they'll actually help you."
He spared one last glance at me over his shoulder.
"Get out of this place before the cleaners arrive and don't be late for work tomorrow."
I heard him walking away and the doors being opened.
I let out a scream venting out all my anger.
I was going crazy.
My stupid heart thought that Knox was the one at some point and I thought he had feelings for me.
He was just using to me.
After Knox got what he wanted from me he disappeared into the shadows and left me to my death.
I thought that I would never be able to get up after this horrible incident but yet again I reminded myself that I couldn't let anyone see me in this state.
I slowly got up holding onto something for balance because my legs wouldn't stop trembling.
I stared in the mirror.
I looked like a ghost.
I looked like a zombie.
My hands wouldn't stop trembling as I turned on the faucet.
I washed my face and got rid of all the makeup on my face.
My eyes were bloodshot red and swollen from all the crying.
I tied my hair in a messy bun and abandoned my shoes.
I grabbed my purse and left the restaurant.
He was gone.
Was I hoping that he would come back? I had no idea.
I looked around the streets and shivered because it was cold outside.
I wasn't going to let Knox get away with rape just because his damn father owned this city.
Even though it was painful to walk I was determined to reach the police station and report Knox for what he did to me.
It felt like I'd been walking for hours when I finally reached the police station.
People wouldn't stop staring at me.
I tapped on the deputy chief's desk drawing his attention.
His gaze lingered on my face and he placed his newspaper on his down.
He didn't look pleased to see me.
"How can I help you ma'am?"
"I'm here to file a case against the man who raped me."
"I won't let him get away with this no matter how much money he has."
He opened his drawer and took out a few papers.
"You should fill in this form."
I stared at him in disbelief.
"Are you listening to me at all?!"
He glared at me.
"Just follow the procedure ma'am and don't cause a scene by yelling."
"I was raped by Knox Evans" I blurted out of anger.
He leaned in closer.
"Really do you have evidence?" He asked curiously.
"He fucking touched me I'm sure that his fingerprints are over my clothes and body."
"If you'd just take me seriously you can help me put him behind bars."
He chuckled softly.
"Look young lady maybe you got drunk at the bar and mistook the man who raped you for Mr. Evans."
"This is not a freaking mistake I know what I'm talking about sure I had some wine but I wasn't drunk."
"Check the restaurant's camera's I'm sure the footage will show that Knox was present."
Tears spilled down my cheeks.
"You should go home and come back tomorrow when you're sobber."
I grabbed him by the collar.
"Knox Evans forced himself on me and I won't let him get away with this."
He grabbed my hands and pushed me away.
I fell on the floor with a thud.
"Security get this crazy woman out of here."
"I won't waste my time on her just because she had a fight with her lover."
Before I could protest I was taken out of the police station.
"You heard the man come back tomorrow."
I wiped my tears away.
His words mocked me.
"I own the law and I am the law."
Knox only held such power because his father owned a law firm.
I was going to pay him a visit tomorrow morning.
I got up and spared one look at the station and one day I will make sure that they lose their jobs.
I will ruin their lives.
I will have more power and connections than Knox and his family and I am going to ruin them."
The next morning I cleaned myself and wore the most expensive clothes I owned. I wasn't going to show them my defeat. I would fight for justice until the end.
I didn't bother to knock on the door and I barged into his office.
Once he saw me he smiled at me.
He glanced at his wrist watch.
"Ah I see that you came early."
"Have a seat I'm glad that you finally took my advice Amber let's just move on like nothing happened."
"We had a quiet dinner last night and I dropped you off home because you had too much wine to drink."
I took off my sunglasses.
"This war isn't over yet Knox and I won't let you get away with this."
"You're just a mere journalist who got her big break. If I were, I'd just enjoy this promotion."
"You only think that you won because you have the law on your side."
He cocked a brow at me.
He chuckled softly and grabbed my phone from my hands.
"You were recording our conversation?"
He placed my phone in his pocket.
"That's why you marched into my office thinking that you'll get a confession out of me?"
"I'm not that stupid Amber."
"I gave you a second chance so that you could keep your job but you're making things difficult for me right now."
"You're fired."
"Get out of my office right now."
He took out my phone and deleted the recording.
He handed me back my phone.
"I'll tell the whole world what you did to me and your father's law firm will be ruined."
"Oh my dear Amber, I already took care of that little problem."
He took out some documents.
"Do you recognize these documents? Your name is definitely on them. No major company will ever hire you as a journalist."
"You got blacklisted."
I slapped him across the face hard.
Angrily tears really rolled down my cheeks.
He smirked at me.
"Since you have no business here you might as well get out."
"I don't ever want to see your face again."
I stormed out of his office in tears.
I didn't care if anyone saw me.
Everything around me was falling apart and I was just stuck in the middle with nowhere to go.
THREE WEEKS LATER
I sat on the cold bench anxiously waiting for the test results at the hospital. For the past few weeks I'd been feeling away and I decided to go to the hospital for a check up.
"Amber Primrose?"
I stood up when I heard the doctor calling my name.
She handed me my test results.
She smiled at me and I felt dazed.
"Congratulations ma'am you're three weeks pregnant."
"Pregnant?"
I crumpled the results in my hand.
Knox.
