Chereads / Falling For My STEPBROTHER / Chapter 4 - Chapter four

Chapter 4 - Chapter four

A deal with the devil.

AMBER POV

After giving birth to Sparrow I realized that I had nowhere to go and this child was literally making my whole life miserable.

I sat in the streets along with a few homeless people while holding Sparrow in my arms. We've been here for a month and things have been tough especially when it comes to meals.

I sighed softly, shutting my eyes tightly.

"Excuse me ma'am?"

It was a man's voice.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked up only to find a handsome gentleman staring at me.

He smiled at me.

"How can I help you sir?"

"Do you live here with your kid?"

I nodded quietly.

"Yes ever since I gave birth to her."

"I would like to help you."

I felt confused.

Help me?

"Really?"

"Yes I have a spare cottage. If you would like to stay there I'd be happy."

I forced a smile.

"That's really generous of you sir but I don't have any money to pay for rent. I don't even have a job at this point."

He carried Sparrow in his arms.

"I wasn't asking you to pay me anything, I just want to help you out of my own kindness."

I stood up.

"So are you coming? It looks like it's going to rain soon and I don't want you to get all wet and the baby might get sick."

I nodded quietly and followed him to his car.

Once we were alone I decided to tell him what was on my mind.

"Sir we are not surrounded by people anymore you can now be honest with me why do you want to help me?"

He smiled at me.

"You're a very smart woman. I like that."

"You're right I have ulterior motives for helping you."

"My parents want me to settle down with a nice woman and I am supposed to find a woman before they do it for me."

"I'm sure that they're a lot of women out there who would kill one another just to become your wife so why would you pick a beggar like me?"

"I chose you because you'll also get to benefit from this marriage as well."

"You get to have a new life."

"Money."

"Power."

"Connections."

"Imagine all the things you can do with money you'll receive from me but you can only have all these things in two one conditions."

"I am allowed to have extra marital affairs with any woman I want and you won't have a say in the matter."

His gaze lingered on my daughter.

"And now for the second condition the world doesn't have to know about your daughter's existence."

"You have to get rid of her."

"Are you kidding me? You want me to kill her or something?"

He shook his head negatively.

"No, that's not what I meant."

"You're a smart woman, take her to an orphanage and I'll make sure that she gets adopted in less than a week."

I looked at my sleeping daughter.

Was I ready to give her up? I hated her yet why wasn't I happy when I finally had an opportunity to get rid of her?

I sighed deeply.

I can't do this to her.

"I have a request to ask you, sir."

"Please call me Brandon."

"Brandon I'll get rid of Sparrow once she gets a little older."

"I'll keep her hidden from the world but I won't let her end up in a strange home."

He chuckled softly.

"It seems that you have a soft spot for your daughter."

"So do we have a deal?" He asked curiously.

I offered him my hand and he grasped it slowly.

"We have a deal."

Fate had given me a second chance to straighten out my life and Brandon and I got married a few months later.

I had to change my name and identity so that I could fit in with society once more again.

I became Nerissa Adamson.

I made a few adjustments and changed my face so that no one from my past would ever recognize me.

Amber Primrose was now dead.

In the eyes of others I was a role model and many women looked up to me because they thought I had a rich loving husband who cared about me.

But I was extremely hurt that he was seeing other women when we were married to each other.

Yes I had developed feelings for this ungrateful jerk but I wouldn't let these feelings get in the way of my real motive.

And that was to destroy Knox and his family.

PRESENT DAY

SPARROW POV

I scoffed in annoyance when my aunt was done explaining why my so called mother always treated me this way.

"You expect me to believe that? I will believe every word you say to me when I hear the truth coming from her own mouth."

She nodded quietly.

"Okay you should ask her yourself but I suggest that you be cautious about it."

"She tends to get aggressive when she is being confronted.

I grabbed my backpack and left her office.

She had loved me from the start then we wouldn't have become enemies.

I passed by the alley and saw two guys harassing a girl and I wasn't going to let them get away with it.

I decided to approach them.

"Hey, leave her alone!"

"Pick on someone your own age."

They left the girl alone and decided to walk towards me.

I dropped my backpack.

"Do you want to settle this with a fist fight?"

They both chuckled softly.

Dinner time with the lions.

My attempt to sneak into the house was unsuccessful when my mother spotted me.

"You're late again."

I turned around to face her.

Her back was turned but yet she could sense my presence.

She was holding a glass of wine in her hands while reading a magazine.

"Since when do you care about me? I can come home anytime I want."

She got up walking towards me.

"Have a little respect Sparrow I know that we aren't on the best terms but the least you can do is act decently."

Decent?

I crossed my arms over my chest.

"You got involved in another fight again."

"You're only putting up with me because your loving husband is probably fucking another woman right now."

I smiled at her.

"How does that make you feel, Amber?"

"Second best right?"

She raised her hand to hit me but stopped mid air.

My eyes widened in shock.

"Hit me."

I could see her hand trembling.

What was holding her back?

She walked past me and went upstairs.

Coward.

I grabbed her glass of wine and drank it emptying the glass.

There was no point in wasting such expensive wine.

I went to my room and pulled out a cigarette.

It was the only way I vent out my anger.

And then I heard arguing about me.

It was always about me.

The unwanted daughter.

I sat on the bed tiredly.

I saved someone today and my mother wouldn't even hear me out. Everytime I tried to make our mother and daughter relationship work she always blamed me for the horrible things that happened in the past.

It was done trying to fix things between us.

"I will finally accept her rejection."

The door opened and Brandon walked in when he saw me he glared at me.

He has always hated me.

"Pack your bags because you're leaving tomorrow morning."

I stood up staring at him in utter horror.

What?
