SPARROW POV
I looked around the cafeteria and people were making such a big deal because of this guy.
I swallowed hard and fought the urge to roll my eyes.
Why was my heart suddenly racing? It certainly wasn't because of that arrogant jerk.
Jodelle grabbed my hand as soon as we collected our lunch and sat down.
"Are you going to spill the beans or what? I'm dying out of curiosity here."
I leaned in closer so that no one would overhear our conversation.
"I met him last night while escaping and he saved me from falling."
She blinked in surprise.
"Oh that's why you hurt your hand?"
I nodded quietly.
"Yeah but he doesn't need to feel like a hero, he barely did anything."
"I'd be careful if I were you, Sparrow."
"Enver Knight kinda rules this place alongside his ice queen."
I cocked a brow at her.
"I'm sorry did you say ice queen?"
She nodded quietly.
"Raina Huang."
"She's the meanest girl here and she's also the captain of the cheerleading squad."
"Ever since I got here I've been trying to get into the cheer team but Raina Huang told me to follow her instructions that's why she'll give me an offer."
I scoffed in annoyance.
"Isn't she using you? What if you don't get accepted?"
Jodelle hit my shoulder playfully.
"Why must you think negatively?" She asked curiously.
I rolled my eyes at her.
I already don't like this Raina Huang girl and if we cross paths things won't end well between us.
"Oh so this school has a king and queen?" I smirked in response and continued eating my food.
Someone placed their hand on the table.
I looked up meeting their gaze and Jodelle quickly got up and bowed her head.
A girl with pitch black hair and blue eyes smiled at me.
"Jodelle, why didn't you tell me that you made a new friend?"
Jodelle looked uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry Raina Huang but she arrived very late so I didn't have enough time to inform you."
Raina Huang sat down beside me.
"Sit down Jodelle."
And just like a little pet Jodelle did as she said.
"So what's your name, new girl?"
I looked up.
"Sparrow."
Raina Huang began laughing.
"Sparrow like a bird?"
I ignored her.
"Aren't you planning on joining the cheer team? Well you don't have the looks but maybe you can dance."
I scoffed in annoyance.
"I don't like the fact of how you're treating Jodelle and if you have nothing to say to me, get lost."
Students around the cafeteria began to gasp in shock.
Raina Huang chuckled softly.
She crossed her arms over her chest.
"Are you sure that you want to mess with the queen?" She asked curiously.
She stood up.
"I don't know where you came from, you little birdie but around here I am the queen and I rule this place."
"I can make your life miserable especially by causing this little stunt in front of everyone."
"Sparrow, you should apologize to Raina Huang," Jodelle muttered under her breath.
Raina Huang smiled at me.
"You should listen to your friend, she's definitely making more sense than you."
"I won't apologize to you for standing up for myself and if you want to ruin my life here go ahead because I have nothing to lose."
"So do your worst ice queen."
Raina Huang walked away with a smirk on her face.
But I wasn't scared of her because I've dealt with people like her at my old school.
I sat down.
"Did you just challenge Raina Huang?"
Her eyes widened in shock.
"Are you crazy? She's going to make your life a living hell."
"Is that why you're scared of her?" I asked curiously.
She nodded quietly.
"My whole life I've always wanted to be accepted by everyone and Raina Huang is my ticket to popularity."
"When I become a cheerleader I know that I'll make a lot of friends and people are going to love me."
I felt really bad for Jodelle if this was her idea of acceptance in her head then it was all wrong.
I know a thing or two about acceptance but I won't dare to tell a single soul about my past.
At the end of the day my last class was finally over and I was heading to my dorm but I didn't make it far because someone stopped me.
"I heard that you openly challenged the ice queen today."
He chuckled softly.
"On your first day as well."
I sighed deeply.
His gray eyes met mine.
And there it was again.
My heart was racing like crazy.
"You're blocking my way."
"I just want to talk to you about last night."
I glared at him.
"If you tell anyone about what happened last night I'm going to murder you in your sleep."
"Nothing happened last night and we never met."
He smiled at me.
"I wasn't planning on telling anyone about your suicide attempt."
I looked away.
"Why would you want to end your life?"
I walked past him.
But I could hear footsteps behind me.
He grabbed my hand.
"Let go of my hand."
"What I do is none of your business and don't act like you give shit about me."
He let go of my hand.
"I'll do my research and find out every little thing about you, Sparrow Evans."
"I'm sure that you have a weakness and I am going to find it and use it against you."
He walked away.
Great, I already made my second enemy.
The next morning things were going smoothly, not until Enver showed up with a special announcement.
He walked towards my table.
"I'm giving you ten seconds to say yes or else I'm going to tell everyone your secret."
I glared at him.
"Go out with me."
I stared at him in disbelief.
"Are you out of your mind?"
"Why on earth would I go out with you? You're practically a jerk."
He smirked at me instead.
"Ten."
"Nine."
"Eight."
"Seven."
"Six."
"Five."
"Four."
"Three."
"Two."
I crossed my arms over my chest.
He paused waiting for me to give in.
"One."
"Ladies and gentlemen this new announcement concerns our new student Sparrow Evans."
"It turns out that our beloved student has been expelled from more than three schools."
Students began whispering.
His gaze lingered on my face.
"Are you dying to know what this little birdie did to get expelled from more than three schools?"
I got up from my seat and balled my hands into fists.
I walked towards Enver.
I was going to wipe that grin off his face.
He smiled at me.
"Have you changed your mind now?"
I slapped him across the face.
Hard.
The room became silent.
"Yeah I changed my mind and it turns out that I'm not into jerks like you."
"So you dug up information on me? Well I'll finish what you started."
" I got expelled because I beat up students to death and if you know what's good for you you're going to stay away from me!"
I left the room and Jodelle followed me.
"You slapped Enver Knight."
"Do you know what this means?"
"He's going to want revenge."
"Aren't you scared?"
I stopped in my tracks to take a deep breath.
His face was rock hard and I felt my hand stinging from the pain.
"I am not afraid of any student here."
For the next few days Enver Knight left me alone and he never dared to look in my path again.
Raina Huang didn't hesitate to make my life miserable just like she promised. She continued pushing my buttons and made every single day a living hell but I wasn't one of those girls who were easily bullied.
I stood up to her every time she found an opportunity to bring me down.
Enver remained silent during the class and he didn't seem to care that Raina Huang was clinging to him like a blood sucking vampire.
I know that digging up information on him was pathetic but from what I've learned he's close to three guys.
"Dion, Leon, Nash."
His three best friends.
Jodelle mentioned that Enver didn't have the best relationship with his father and brother.
But I was done messing with Raina Huang especially for exploiting Jodelle.
I went to watch her practicing her routine.
This seems easy enough. I was already a good dancer and cheerleading would just be like an extra workout.
Raina Huang spotted me at a distance.
She walked towards me.
"Are you stalking me?"
I cocked a brow at her.
"Why would I be stalking you?"
She smirked at me.
"Because Enver lost interest in you and now you're desperately trying to win him back by copying everything I'm doing."
"I'm not interested in Enver and you can go ahead and keep him."
"You definitely deserve each other since you both have a degree for being jerks to other people."
She rolled her eyes at me.
"This place is for cheerleaders only so what are you doing here?"
I smiled at her.
"Who knows, maybe I'll try out" I muttered giving her a deadly smirk.
