Chapter 4 - Learning

Weeks turned to months, and months to years. I soaked up knowledge like a parched horse in a fresh water lake.

I had been studying for the past two years. I studied the basic kinds of magic as well as some history in notable figures. I also didn't forget to do some geography.

The language of this place is called Karish. Everyone in the human continent speaks it.

Speaking of the human continent, there are actual intelligent races other than us! Elves, Dwarves, Lizard men, the list goes on. Dragons are also intelligent. And certain monsters can gain intelligence through power.

I've bought a book about powerful monsters in the past. DuRaza the Lich for example. He had a Death Element and forged a path to power. He was vanquished by a powerful hero chosen by the church to lead humanity.

Du'Raza is a great example. He was a lowly skeletal mage summoned by a necromancer. After said necromancer was killed he wandered about gaining power until eventually he developed a intelligence of his own.

For some reason evolution happens faster here. A sharp increase in power means evolution. Apparently, hobgoblins are an example of this. Hobgoblins are one of the various races and a evolved goblin.

Count Lashra was a powerful vampire. She had powerful blood, water and cursing abilities.

I even learned about spirits.

Ifrit for example. He is a powerful fire spirit who can use not only spirit magic but fire, combustion, and ash magic! I learned that Ash is a powerful form of fire magic. I also learned that to use blood magic you have to have a Aptitude for water. So much knowledge!

'Huh, almost like I'm back in university.' My past never ceases to leave me. I'll never forget the things I've lost on my journey here.

The country I'm in is called Eria. It's a human country thats land locked. The continent I'm on is called Gosica.

I've learned all this through my parents. They hired a tutor for me. They think I'll become a professor or researcher.

'Maybe I will become a researcher. If possible I want to be a mage. But it's good to set expectations. Chances are I'll be an ordinary young man.'

My tutors name is Charles. He's taught me about geography, history, and beasts. Through history I learned about Eldritch creatures and monsters of all kinds.

"Son, tomorrow is the day we've been waiting for all this time. It's finally time for you to get your aptitude tested!" Michael spoke to me trying to get me hyped up. In reality, I was. I was truly excited to see if I can do magic.

Tomorrow we depart for the closest city.

I only hope to not get an illegal element. I wouldn't want to be killed for being powerful after all. Powers important only if you can live to use it.

"Sweetie, me and your father will accompany you into town. When we get there a real Mage is going to test everyone who's 13. Don't get your hopes up. Chances are you won't be able to become a Mage. Regardless of what happens, we'll support you." Maria said to me sternly. It's good to have expectations. But not to overshoot everything. Be realistic about your goals. That's something I learned in my last life…

I've come to love my parents. Despite this it's been hard to see them as mom and dad and not Michael and Maria.

My old parents weren't by any means bad. And I feel horrible knowing they gave birth and raised me. I wasn't even able to pay them back. I left them too soon.

Soon enough tears rolled down my eyes.

My Mom and Dad rushed over to help me out.

"What's wrong bud?" "You alright honey!"

'At least I have them.' Soon enough my tears stopped and a smile was plastered on my face.

Despite the fact that my feelings are dulled I can still feel. Unfortunately, because I hardly ever cry when I do cry it's always a huge deal for Mom and Dad.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Thanks mom and dad." After enough convincing I was off to bed. It was my big day tomorrow and I needed a good sleep.

With happy thoughts and a positive outlook, I shut my eyes and went to sleep.

"Kaz honey. Kaz. Krazis wake up."My mom was standing over me. Shaking me gently and trying to wake me.

I dreamed of home. My life on Earth. My family and friends. And my bleak end.

'This is truly a new life. My beginning… with this I can let go of my past and move forward'

Me and my parents walked out the house towards a shabby wooden carriage.

'This is my future!'
