Dad got out and lead the horses to the stable. Soon enough he joined us.
"Alright. Let's head in shall we?" My dad excitedly walked forward. The place we were going is the elemental ritual site. It's were the element aptitude test takes place.
Many people were wandering into the gate. Some with and some without children. Probably here to examine the next generation.
When we opened the door we were greeted by a women at a desk.
"Name of candidate?"
"Krazis!" My dad excitedly answered. His voice was prideful and joyous.
"Go to the large room to your right and wait until the ceremony begins. There's still three hours until it begins. Parents can go to the left which leads to seats."
As I was about to walk off my mom talked to me.
"No matter what happens we love you. We'll see you after this all. Mage or not your still my son." Her words were kind and made me genuinely smile.
My dad just nodded and stared at me with a wide smile plastered on his face.
"Bye son!" My parents said before walking to the left.
I sighed and walked to the right.
'Please. Please give me something to work with here. Maybe I'll get the Frost element? Maybe I'll luck out and get space or time? Who knows. I just want to be a mage. I can study magic and live a life of power!'
With determination I set out to the room. When I went in hundreds of kids could be seen.
The floor was dirt. It looked like some sort of arena. Many seats could be seen all around. It was odd, the room seemed to be bigger than half the academy! Could this be magic too?
There seemed to be some sort of "group" here. People in good cloths stuck with others like them while the poorer looking people stuck together. How odd….
I soon found a corner for myself and sat. No need to socialize. It's just wasted effort for some kids who I probobly won't ever see again.
After about an hour someone approached me. A girl with red hair and green eyes.
"Move it bud. Your In the noble area."
'Hah? What kind of childish bullshit is this.'
I looked up and stared at the girl with cold, dead eyes.
Her eyes wavered for a minute and her back hunched ever so slightly.
"Talk to me again and we're going to have a problem. Understand me?"
The girl audibly gulped.
"Y-you think you can order me around?! I'm heir to the Arnell Dutchy! Don't speak to m-me like th-"
"I don't give a rats ass where your from or who ever gave birth to a rat like you! Screw off brat!" I yelled out a little bit louder than I meant to. I hate kids. This has always been true. Even more than hating kids, I hate snobs. Perhaps it's because I came from a world without nobles, but I won't let anyone talk down to me.
"…." The girl was at a loss for words. She glared at me angrily and walked off.
'Idiot' I thought with a grin plastered on my face.
Soon enough, a portal appeared. It was blue in colour. A man with a white beard walked out. The portal closes behind him. He was wearing a white cloak and had a red staff with a crystal at the top. In one of his hands an orb lay. It was large and looked crystal like.
'What an entrance!' Rich or poor, everyone stared with anticipation at the man.
The same thoughts ran through the heads of everyone here.
'I want to be a mage!'
The man walked to the middle of the room were a stage lay. A pillar with a round socket stood tall and strong in the middle.
The man walked slowly to the front with all eyes on him. He placed the ball in the pillar.
"Young men and women of the future. Welcome to the elemental ritual. In this test, your future will be dictated. For those of you who unlock no elements fear not, for the workforce could always use more hands. Competent Swordsman are in high demand these days. With that let the ceremony begin." The old man spoke his words loud and clear for everyone to hear. Up above, many people sat in anticipation.
"Simon, step forward."
A young man in shabby cloths with deep dark black hair stepped forward.
The old man without a word pricked Simons skin. After getting some blood he dropped it on the ball.
…
…
…
After a few moments of silence the ball lit up. A tiny fragment of brown gas was in the ball.
"I'm sorry young man, you can't pursue magic."
Just like that. A simple drop of blood is all it took to decide that young kids fate. All his dreams of being a mage crushed.
Simon shuttled off the field with tears in his eyes.
Just like that names went on.
"Merry"
"James"
"Kazor"
And eventually something else happened.
"Sasha Arnell"
A red haired girl with a proud grin walked up to the stage.
"Give me your hand dear" it seems the treatment of nobles is different….
Anticipation could be read on her face, she was like an open book.
Blood trickled onto the ball. When the blood met the crystal the room
Instantly got hotter.
Flames flooded the ball and the ball let off extreme heat.
"Ah, another strong flame user for the Arnell duchy. Congratulations dear."
The room was left quiet until someone started clapping. Afterwards everyone was clapping and cheering.
The girl gave me a prideful glare on her way back.
'Angry and prideful. Sounds about right for a flame user.'
Despite the girls bratty attitude I had only one thought on my mind….
'Amazing!'
