The road was bumpy. My but hurt and I was cold. I was sore all over.
The infrastructure is non existent. We use a wooden outhouse for our excrements.
The roads are dirt and gravel. Stone roads, stone and wood houses, and carriages. Any science was achieved with magic. My Tutor Charles taught me about teleportation. Something mythical in my past world is possible
In this one. It's amazing. One would think with dirt roads the most advanced thing around would be glass, but in some aspects, this world surpasses my past one.
"You excited son?" My dads words took me away from my thoughts.
"Of course dad! This day will determine my future. How could I not be excited?"
"Remember Kaz, only 25 percent of people have a strong connection to an element. Don't be too let down if you can't be a mage." My mom made sure to keep me grounded to reality. I hate it but also like it. I would honestly be pretty heartbroken if I can't use magic, but at the very least my parents have proper expectations for me.
The rules of the land are actually that when you turn 13 you need to get your element checked. It's mandatory that it happens.
How the test works is that everyone goes to the closest large town or city to get their element checked. The noble who owns said town is the one who does the test. The results are sent to the royal capital to be sorted and given out to the various academy's. From there, invites are sent. But a majority of people venture to take the entrance test.
"Almost there!" My dad yelled from the stage coach.
"Sounds good honey!" My mom yelled back.
With a warm smile my mom patted my shoulder.
"Can you believe it. It feels like yesterday I was holding you in my hands. Where did my little baby go?"
'How ironic. Your little baby is long dead.' At the mention of the real Kaz I felt sad. I love my new mom and dad. And the fact that I'm only a shitty, emotionless, replacement is just sad.
With a forced smile I replied. "Your little babies right here mom. Just a little bigger."
After some more small talk and a long conversation about what I've been learning from Charles, we arrived at the city. The line to get In was massive. Huge stone walls lined the outside. We were about 30 carriages back.
At the front of the line, a massive wooden gate hung open. A few men clad in full iron armour and spears spread around the line.
A man with a clipboard of some kind and 2 armoured guards sat at the front.
Looking up you can see many bow men looking down into the convoy of people.
A separate line of people lined up a while to the left. Thank god we had a carriage. 200 men and women most with children could be seen walking in line. Despite the long wait almost all of them could be seen with smiles on their faces.
Soon enough it was our turn to get in.
The man with the clipboard was talking to my dad outside.
"Name?"
"Michael." My dad replied.
"Purpose of visit?"
"My son is here for the elemental test. In the back I have my wife and him."
The man with the clipboard looked to the guards next to him and gave them some orders.
"Go around and find the people."
Soon enough 2 armoured men came to the door and peered in. Seeing as we where there, they gave their boss the go ahead.
"All here sir!"
After filling out some stuff on his clipboard the man spoke. "Your good to go. Enjoy your stay in Flumore City." Soon the guard called
Out.
"Next in line move forward!"
Soon enough we were on our way.
Stone streets going hundreds of meters back was the first thing I saw. Open blacksmiths and stores lined the streets.
People could be seen walking in the streets while us and all the other carriages road through the middle of everything.
Food stalls were everywhere but as we left the gates and went more inwards, more high quality building could be seen.
Large houses where everywhere. Nice parks could also be seen with people in nice cloths walking around.
Soon we came to a large castle. Flumore Magic Academy was written on a large, iron gate.
'Finally… we're here….'
