Bai Xi's Pov:
"So you'll be there right?" he asked , his tone hopeful.
I made a thinking face to mess with him, "I will have to see about that" I told him with a contemplative tone.
"You won't come?" he asked, disappointment evident in his voice.
"Well I didn't say that, I said—that I will see about it"
He grumbled about it before snatching my hand in his and demanded, "Well then I am demanding that you come, you have to and I'll be picking you up myself".
I threw my head back and laughed at him exclaiming, "You are so cute when things don't go your way".
"I can't help it, you make me lose my sanity around you, you make me crazy baby."
I breathed faster as my lungs expanded to catch the next breath while I digested what he said.
His behaviour is still questionable but his words—they do make me swoon everytime, even if they are sometimes more than questionable.
"Who are you playing with?" I asked him to ward off the tense atmosphere.
"Some friends—I grew up with, and a few locals."
"Oh, so you grew up in A city?"
"No, actually my family from my father's side resides here but I grew up in London. My mother retired there after her divorce and I spended my holidays with my father...the regular festivals and vacations, I spended it there while learning all the basic buisness ropes, completing my studies and besides a few other things."
He continued after a moment with, "At the time of my father's demise, I was in graduation, had just turned twenty two, so I switched back here in my last year and continued virtually while succeeding my father's position and joining in as the President-Ceo." He explained.
"I am so sorry for asking that, I didn't know about it." I felt bad asking him about that but he just shrugged before saying, "It's okay, It's been a long time and I have learned to accept it."
"So how old are you again?" I asked him to change the topic.
"Thirty one in a few days."
"Oh, does your bones ache after working so much?", I teased him with a straight face, but he threw me a fake glare before telling, "For your information, thirty one is a prime age and not old, and I work out regularly, so you really don't have to be worried about any aspect where my fitness is to be tested."
I blushed hard, my cheeks turning red after his explanation and after shooting him a reproaching glare, I turned to look out of the window.
"So where are we going?" I asked as I looked outside.
We were riding along the shoreline and traffic has abated us long ago. No one in sight only the road leading upto a steeped hill with a light tower overlooking the sea.
"Into the ocean" , he said mysteriously.
I arched my eyebrow up in confusion but he just shrugged and continued driving up the hill.
We stopped by the entrance to the small cottage a few feets away from the lighthouse.
Moving along the pavement path, we reached the pier where a few yachts were docked as it looked like a private docking yard.
"Is this your private yard?"
"Yeah, my house is actually on the same coastline within two kilometres radius, this is the part of the land as well."
"Oh yeah, now that you said it, it is the back area of gardenia palaces." I said as realisation dawned on me.
He stepped inside the yacht as he put a hand in front of me to hold onto.
I thanked him and stepped inside as well, holding his hand with one and my shoes in the other.
The yacht is a luxurious beauty from inside.
He pulled me up the stairs of the deck as he manueverd me behind the long winding pole and onto the posterior most portion of the deck.
As I looked at the one sided view of the orange and red sky as the sun descended low into the ocean. I placed my hands on the hand rail as I breathed in the salty air of the sea.
Tan hands wrapped around me, as Si Yihan stood behind me, his tall figure dwarfing mine. The ship started moving, snapping me out of my awe as I turned around to face the man who has given me my first ever breath of freedom. Freedom from my demons and the shadows of my past which are constantly lurking in the dark, the threat of them hovering over my future.
Brown eyes flickered over me, roaming on my face then settling on my eyes as he bend his head to drop a kiss on my forehead. The feeling is serene and my anxiety drew back as I inhaled a long breath.
"Thank you for bringing me here, it is Amazing! The setting sun and view is incredible!." I thanked him for the moment.
After watching the sunset we reclined back in the boat itself as Si Yihan showed me the whole of it.. consisting of four rooms with kitchen and other utility rooms for the maintenance and the captain's room. He also told me that it was one of the smaller ones that he had. Good for a short round of gallivanting in the night sea.
We were almost finished with the dinner and all the time with the amazing view as well as the beautiful star littered sky, we sat under the shed on the viewing deck, I contemplated enough before asking him about it...
"So you know, I have been meaning to ask you something...." I started hesitantly.
He glanced at me, flicking up an eyebrow he nodded at me to continue and I finally broached the subject about his wife...which I know is a burning pit and needed to be handled carefully
"It's about your wife..." I paused while thinking how
He thought confusingly for a moment before realisation dawned on him and he put down his fork and wiped his hands with the napkin before saying, "I haven't given a thought about her until now..."
He continued, "I mean it never mattered before this and it won't in the future as well. There is a little tricky situation about our entanglement but I assure you there is nothing between us, never have been."
I don't know why after hearing all this my heart aches. Aches for something which was never there. And even though technically he is right and everything, but it still hurts.
