"What do you mean, mum?" Sam croaked. "What are you saying, mother?"
Tears threatened to spill from her mother's eyes as she tried to explain herself. "I didn't know what to do then."
"So, what you're saying is that he was the one that left you when you were pregnant with me? Abandoning both of us?" Sam choked on her son as she took a step back, not believing her ears. Her eyes darted back and forth in a manner that conveyed confusion, and then it morphed into hatred.
"I didn't think that I'd see him again, Sam," Tears trickled down her mother's cheeks as she tried to soothe Sam's aching heart, but it wasn't working. Sam was like a cocoon of so many emotions.
Sam turned to leave but came face to face with Desmond. He looked at her for a few seconds without saying anything to her. She left the ward and dashed out of the hospital with tears in her eyes, heading for the car and getting in forcefully.
