Chereads / The Dragon King's Mate / Chapter 16 - Yes, Your Majesty!

Chapter 16 - Yes, Your Majesty!

Murmurs erupted in the hall as they considered the possibility of his words being the truth. All of what they said reached his ears and he clenched his fists, and  his expression hardened. The hall suddenly went silent with not a sound to be heard.

The temperature in the hall seemed to drop after that statement and everyone including Hazel could feel it. She saw the man who had spoken clench his fist by his side as if trying to stop himself from doing something that he did not want to do. Her gaze then shifted to the great of the people in the hall who had their eyes lowered looming at the ground with their heads slightly bowed.

Even Idril was like that and she understood that the source of the sudden coldness in the air was the man sitting beside her. She turned to look at him and for the first time that tender look he always had around was nowhere to be found. He looked intimidating and scary.

She saw him rise to his feet and took a step forward and then she heard the older man drop to his knees. She did not understand what was going on but she understood that he was mad because of what that man had said. Though to her it sounded logical that her presence in a world that she was not a part of could cause some unfavorable circumstances in the realm, it didn't seem so with him.

"Have mercy on the subject my King," he struggled to say. He had walked up to him and loomed over him.

What Hazel could not feel was tie weight if the aura pressure he had released was strong. Though he directed it to one person, everyone else felt its force which forced them to remain the way they were not daring to raise their heads to look at him. While the one whine he had directed it to could not withstand it even after trying hard to fight it.

"Repeat what you have just said," he commanded. His voice was the only thing that echoed throughout the hall filling its entirety.

"This subject was wrong, Your Majesty,"  he said again with even more difficulty than the last time.

Was it alright that he should do that? Hazel wondered even though she did not know what he was doing.

"It won't repeat itself again,"

She heard the man say and but the look on Arzaan's face remained the same.

"Have I been too lenient to you that you think you can lay accusation  on what is mine?" Aegean was furious with this man. He was the oldest among the earth dragon clan and the oldest among the dragons but he was also the most hateful one of them all. Always testing his limits and many ways. He was aware that he sorted the throne a while back when they all thought there was not a member of the Noble clan after the great war.

But did that warrant his disrespect and unruly behavior?

The room became even colder and Hazel could swear she saw sparks in the air. Seeing him bend on one knee, and gripping the man's neck, her eyes went wide. She stood up the moment he got back to his feet, taking the man with him and. Ran over to him.

She was no fool who wouldn't know what he was planning to do and it wouldn't be good that he would kill his subjects especially on her first day in the Great hall. She got to him and held his arm causing him to look at her. He looked shocked to see her standing beside him. He had forgotten that she was also in here.

With her head raised so she could look him in the eyes, she shook her head. "Don't do it," she mouthed but no words came out. She didn't want it to look like she was telling him what to do in the ways and ears of others.

Seeing her nod at him after mouthing those words, he released his hold. He didn't want her to see him as a cold blooded killer. He could only wonder how long he would have to take more nonsense from people like Drabor because he didn't want her to see that ugly side of him.

He stepped away from him and then pulled her along with him, wanting to get far away from Drabor, who knows what he would do if he got his hands on his mate? He then retracted his aura and the room became light once again. Everyone could breathe freely without feeling the pressure on them.

She didn't think she could get him to stop so easily but she was glad that he did. She wouldn't know what to have done to stop him. They both returned to their seats but no one said a word. He signed inwardly and then spoke,

"Let what happened just now repeat itself ever again,"  he said and looked at his mate sitting beside him. "You all know what had caused it yet, you choose e to accuse your queen, like it or not, she is my mate and equal and therefore your queen and you will treat her as such,"

His words sounded like a decree as he spoke leaving Hazel wide eyed.

"If this ever repeats itself… I don't need to tell you the penalty for rebelling against the throne, you all know and it will be done according to the laws that have been governing us right from  the beginning. Do I make myself clear?"

His words were enough to silence anyone who would have opposed or even defended Drabor. He had claimed her as his mate and equal that automatically makes her their superior.

"Yes, Your Majesty!" they all said, knowing not to do anything that would be considered disrespectful, at least not in the open like this.

Drabor was not the only one who didn't like a human as their queen, there were many, he knew that and he also knew that those who seek his throne would use this opportunity to drag him down but he also wouldn't mind showing some  people even if it turned out to be the graveyard. He had wanted his mate for so long and now that he found, he wouldn't let anyone touch even a strand of hair on her head.

"You may continue with the issue at hand," he ordered.
