Later that day, Evelynn woke up feeling refreshed. She had never gotten such quality sleep for years.
She yawned loud and large but covered her mouth immediately when she noticed a figure sitting in the bed next to her.
"Did Kimberly lead you here?"
She nodded.
"This is my room, though."
Evelynn's eyes widened.
"I'm sorry!" Then she started explaining defensively without pausing. "She said this is the room I'm gonna use, and I don’t know if I even deserve to have one, but before I realized it, I fell asleep on the soft bed and——"
Evelynn stopped explaining because Sawyer was looking at her so intently. As if he couldn't understand her defensiveness.
Evelynn got out of bed and fixed it guiltily. Using things she didn’t own was a luxury she shouldn't have.
When Sawyer never dropped his gaze, Evelynn consciously touched her face. She laughed awkwardly.
"My wounds look ugly," she said.
