"We can't take her in," Yabusa, the head of the Tribunal elders, straight up delivered the Tribunal's say on the matter.
Evelynn sat there, in front of the whole Tribunal, feeling cornered by these people she didn't even recognize. She felt even smaller than usual.
She was powerless and voiceless.
Sawyer was gritting his teeth. They didn’t have to put Evelynn through this, but they did.
They could have talked to him instead of bringing Evelynn into it. He wanted to lash out at them, but out of respect, he sat sternly on his seat and waited for the right moment to save her.
Yabusa faced Sawyer. "Alpha, you know the rules. We can't take in just anyone. We might look like a normal community, but we're a pack. We each have something to offer. What is she to offer? What is the role she's gonna play? She's useless in this pack. And she'll only bring us danger and vulnerability. We can’t have a human here."
