Since then, Evelyn feared abandonment more than everything. To be abandoned, for her, was worse than death itself.
She grew up with the misbelief that she had to be useful to the people around her if she wanted to have a place in their lives.
All her choices were based on her fear and misbelief. What she thought at the moment that could ultimately make her happy was to be part of the pack.
"Evelynn…"
She was pulled out from her trance when Sawyer called her name. When he approached, she didn't understand the reason for it.
He reached his hand to her face, and he wiped the tears on her cheeks with his thumb.
"Don’t cry."
At the mention of it, Evelynn touched her face. She wasn't aware that she was crying.
"I know you're confused and unable to process what you just discovered. But can you trust me? I want to help you find yourself again."
He reached for her hand and squeezed it.
"But then, it's up to you. I would never force you into a life you don’t want."
