The entire cafeteria was engulfed in a heavy silence. Almost everyone there knew who he was, his fame was limitless in the town of Levings.
He looked around in silence before picking up the chubby kid on the floor and walking out of the cafeteria. 'Who was that?" Fae thought to himself feeling utterly astonished. 'How'd he move so fast?'
After a few more moments of silence the cafeteria erupted in chatter. Ling Xao walked out of the crowd and went to grab Fae. "Who was that?" Fae asked Ling Xao. "I heard a few kids whisper about him, how do you not know who he is?" Ling Xao asked slightly confused. "I don't listen to whispers." Fae responded bluntly, he didn't care much for what people seemed to whisper and gossip about other people, he knew how quickly those rumors and whispers could become false.
"No it's not that, I mean, don't you share a house with him?" Ling Xao scratched his head a bit at that. "What?" Fae tried to recall everyone he had met among the top ten, only a few were yet to greet him.
"He's the second ranked first year. Xander Feu, the flamebringer." Chills ran down Fae's spine as he heard this. He had flashbacks to the punch he took from Aluna and how close he was too losing all his HP. 'That guy is two places in front of her? What a monster.' Was all Fae could think as he decided he was no longer hungry and wanted to leave the cafeteria.
Since it was only the first day they only had the first round of classes and wouldn't hold multiple periods. Right now they just wanted students to get accommodated with the school and learn where everything is. Fae didn't care much for that though and just wanted to head home and relax a bit. Fae made sure to be extra careful walking back to dorm A. Last time he walked there he was attacked by Aluna and he definitely didn't want another situation like that.
As the giant skyscraper of a dorm room came into view Fae knew he was home. He opened the door to see Ciera, number five, and Julia, number six. Ciera slid under her and was ready to uppercut her in the chin, but Julia suddenly vanished from view and appeared behind Ciera with a blade of light aimed at her neck.
"I told you I could beat you if you didn't use any bloodline powers." Julia said with a laugh as she once again vanished into the air and went invisible. Ciera just shook her head and laughed it off as she turned and noticed Fae. "Hey number nine." Ciera said as she smiled at Fae. "Why don't you call me Effy? You know my name." Fae said as he looked down like an embarrassed kid, something about him being called a number that signified he was weaker than everyone else really bothered him.
"It's tradition here kid, you need to earn your stripes before any will use your name." Fae just shook his head and gave up on being called his name for now. "How did Julia beat you? I thought you were the lower number." Fae was confused as he thought back to the outcome of the match.
"I made a bet that I could beat her without using any of my bloodlines abilities and let her use hers, it was just a friendly match the gap between us isn't so large that it can't be covered by her powers. The disparity between us is shown when I use my powers, in that case she could never best me." Ciera said as she took a confident stance.
Fae almost held in his laugh as he thought 'She must think she's some kind of main character.' His smile peaked through just enough for Ciera too notice as she looked at Fae with an annoyed expression. "Anyways, what do you know about Xander?" Fae asked as he thought back to the cafeteria incident, something about Xander was too interesting to him, he felt he needed to know more.
"Xander Feu? He's a bit of a weird one." Ciera said in a whisper as she pointed towards the ceiling, indicating that Xander may be able to hear them as he was upstairs. "Why's that?"
"Nobody knows much about him, he was a orphaned around 8 and moved from home to home for awhile, eventually one of the families realized he was talented and began to train him and he ended up here. He's really closed off and doesn't speak much so nobody knows anything about him." Ciera had a few chills run up her spine and she membered the few times she saw Xander in action. "He's strong." Ciera said bluntly. As she left for her room leaving Fae alone on the bottom floor.
After a few minutes of thinking Fae decided he wanted to speak to Xander, so he went up the stairs to his room. It didn't take Fae long to reach the room at all as it was on the third floor. Fae knocked on the door but there was no reply, he waited for about two minutes before he turned around figuring that Xander was just ignoring him. Suddenly the door opened and Fae saw Xander's muscular figure standing before him.
Xander's hair was a mess and his body was teeming with sweat, it was evident he had just been working out. He stepped back giving Fae space to walk into the room but as soon as he did Fae was met with a problem. HEAT!
From the first step into the room the temperature elevated to dangerous levels. The dorm was usually a very cool temperature, which didn't affect Mythics much as they were more durable to weather conditions, but Fae could feel the burn of this room down to his lungs. He immediately began to sweat and could barely stay standing, his health wasn't in danger, but his stamina definitely was. Xander noticed this and closed his eyes, suddenly the room began to cool and reach more normal levels, still it was a bit warmer than usual.
Xander brought Fae towards a couch and had him sit, he than sat across from Fae and stared at him expectantly. "You're wondering why I came here, right?" Fae asked and Xander nodded in reply. "I wanted to thank you for helping out that kid back in the cafeteria." Fae said with a light hearted smile. "Was he a friend of yours?" Xander spoke his voice sounding distant, but not cold. It was more like a king who loved his kingdom but could never visit it again.
"No but nobody else seemed to care, and just as I was about to step in you did and made things easier." Fae explained. "I don't need thanks, I didn't do it for reward." Xander spoke as he stood up and began to walk back towards the door. Fae was wondering what Xander was doing but than Xander opened the door and pointed towards it, signaling Fae to leave. "Harsh man." Fae said with a laugh as he began to walk out of the room, just before he left he and Xander locked eyes.
If there was one word Fae could use to describe what he saw in Xander's eyes, it was pain. Fae stood outside Xander's door for awhile before he finally began to move and walk upstairs to his. Eventually he looked back down stairs towards Xander's room and whispered.
"Xander Feu, the flamebringer. The man with enough pain to set the world on fire."
