A wave of energy raced through Fae's body as he could feel something within him stir awake. His energy began to take on a different feel as strands of it shot into the worm and seemed to be absorbing all of its energy. The worm began to send psychic screams to Fae, as if begging him to stop, but Fae didn't skip a beat as he continued to feel his energy expand.
Eventually the worm let out one last psychic shout before it's body started to break down, losing all its skin, than its blood, and finally it's bones, as everything dissolved into nutrients for Fae to grow.
As Fae felt the skill coming to an end the pain in his body finally subsided completely, besides a slight headache the worm's screams left that was quickly fading. Fae began to wear a smile on his face as he imagined all the things he'd be able to do with the powers that the worm would grant him, he was staring in front of him in anticipation for when the system screen would appear and tell him good news. Sadly it wasn't the news he expected.
{Current Devour (LVL 1) is not capable of taking bloodlines from beasts. Please level up the skill to obtain this feature.}
{Requirements to level up Devour}
{Devour the bloodline of five Mythics}
{1/5}
Fae stared at the screen as his expression quickly changed to one of disappointment. He thought he would be gaining a new bloodline that would increase his combat power tremendously, sadly he was only met with another obstacle between him and growing further. Fae suddenly lost all the excitement he was feeling, but quickly all of that was coming back as he read the next message from the system.
{Distributing the energy from the beast into the body of the Host} At first Fae didn't know what this meant but quickly he understood as he could feel his mental defenses raise, suddenly he felt like if the worm were to try again it wouldn't be able to invade and control his mind even if he didn't destroy it. The system had put numbers to this change as it began to read the update to Fae.
{Mind stat +10} (Mind now 45)
{Intelligence stat + 15} (Intelligence now 55)
Fae had no choice but to smile as he read this. Before this upgrade mind was his lowest stat, but it was now tied with his strength. His intelligence stat had also raised by a large margin and was now second only to his agility.
Before Fae could get too excited from this new improvement he was ripped out of his thoughts as Mr. Gami ran towards him and put his hand on Fae's shoulder. "You alright kid?" Mr. Gami said in a tone of worry that seemed forced. "Yeah I'm good thanks." Fae said as he stood up and glared at Edward who was staring at Fae in fear. Fae was overwhelmed with anger as this kid did something so underhanded for no reason. Fae was ready to put up a fair fight and even hold back as to not humiliate the kid, but instead his kindness was met with an attack on his life. Fae wanted to pounce at the kid and end his life, to return the favor ten fold. Mr. Gami seemed to be able to sense how Fae was feeling as he stepped in-between Fae and Edward and spoke to Fae in a low tone.
"Good job kid, that took a lot of skill and focus. Maybe you do belong in the top ten." Mr. Gami said as he turned away from Fae and grabbed Edward, taking him away to face his punishment. Mr. Gami had been referring to the way Fae had taken care of the worm. Mr. Gami was a lot stronger than Fae so it was no problem for him to peak into Fae and see how he manipulated the bloodline energy inside his body to trap and crush the worm, although he couldn't see when Fae began to use Devour as there seemed to be some mental block that appeared, he still saw all that took place before and knew it was by no means an easy task.
The rest of the practical lessons were put on pause until Mr. Gami got back. All the students who were excited for their first practical lesson stared at Fae as they knew his fight was the reason their lessons were put on pause. Everyone had different reasons, some looked at him with an expecting gaze, some looked surprised, some impressed, some bored, some even a bit upset, but none of them looked at him in disgust. None of them glared at him with the eyes that he'd spent years of his life being critiqued under. Fae welcomed the new attention, the feeling of all these eyes on him in a positive light. Fae whispered something under his breath, something small and insignificant, but that may have changed the course of history for Levings Academy.
"I could get used to this."
