Lucas kept on driving, oblivious to Audrey's thoughts. While she was thinking of her new relationship, her mind drifted to what her parents would think about it, she sighed thinking that she had been too happy recently to visit their graves. Her mood swung thinking of her mother's final months before she left the face of the earth, all the times they would giggle about a certain topic while she was having her chemotherapy shots, and finally her thoughts drifted to the bills that were deducted from her wages every week.
Lucas noticed a change in her usual giggle and side glances, "What's wrong, indigestion?", Lucas asked concerned that her facial expression wasn't what it was a minute before.
" Ohh, no, it isn't indigestion!", Audrey said shaking her head, blinking rapidly to keep the tears from falling. She didn't know if she could tell him, she was clueless on the dynamics of a relationship as she had never had one before.
"Then what is it?", Lucas asked after parking by the roadside, he wanted to give her his undivided attention and he thought parking the car to hear her express her feelings would be nice.
Seeing Lucas being so attentive to her was really heart melting for Audrey, he used the serviettes to wipe her tears without smudging her makeup. He offered her water, which she drank three gulps from before dropping it on her lap.
She never really had anyone to express her worries to on a deeper level after her mother died, with Prisca and Lizzy, she always tried to know her place without being too much, so she kept most things to herself. She hesitated because they just started dating, maybe he would get to know later on when she's ready to talk about it.
"I suddenly remembered something about my mom!", " what about her!?", Lucas asked as he was already aware her mother was dead, she told him a few months ago when they went on their first official date.
"I miss her!", Audrey said wiping the tears away from her eye lids, Lucas knew what she wanted to talk about even without uttering it, she was worried about the bills and he should have fulfilled his end of his bargain that day in the office.
He wrapped her in a hug, starting the engine soon after, his right hand holding on to her left hand as he moved the car, headed to the office. He made sure to engage her in a conversation so she wouldn't think too much, they got to the office soon after, their conversation which had led to a laugh from Audrey was cut short when they were disturbed by Lucas's phone ringing.
"I'll go ahead then!", Audrey said with a smile as she removed her seatbelt and leaving the car. The call was from Matthew who wondered where his brother had suddenly gome to without prior notice.
"I'll be up in a minute!", Lucas said before cutting the call, he left the car soon after, heading to the fiftieth floor for the workload he had to deal with.
He got upstairs to see Martin playing games in his office, "looks like you want to be kicked out soon, why are you here?, you have your own space!", Lucas said to Martin who disturbed his time with Audrey.
"Did I disturb your time with you know who?", Martin asked, Lucas blushing as he knew the person Martin was taking about. "Seems like you've been less busy lately!", Lucas said, Martin getting the hint that his brother was about to give him something to do to shut him up.
Seeing his brother out his phone in his pocket, Lucas sat down and asked, "why the hell were you disturbing my time!", Mom called!", Martin said, pausing mid sentence, "and!", Lucas said urrging him to continue.
"We have unexpected company from someone!", Martin said piquing Lucas's interest, "who!", Lucas asked curious. "Someone we least expected!", Martin said feeling good that he had his brother clipped, "your High school crush!", Martin said.
Lucas cocked his head, unable to recall who Martin was talking about till he remembered the forgotten memory. "Emily!?", Lucas asked just to be sure. "Yes bro, Emily is back in the country
