Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

"I had an amazing dream last night… YOU came out in it, hence the amazing part. I dreamt of you just as how you are in real life. Your hazel eyes staring right at me, your dark-black hair, straight as always with a few strands out of place, silky and smooth just as I've learned to love it. You walked slowly closer to me and with that perfect smile that I melted over printed on your face, held my hands in between yours. I could feel my face turning various shades of pink and red, and a smile formed on my face at only your touch. Your smile widening at the sight of my blushing, releasing my hands, you cupped my cheek with your right hand, gently and soothingly caressing it with your thumb… your left arm wrapped around my waist pulling me closer to your masculine body. Your eyes never parting from my honey ones. I saw your lips moving but heard nothing. I smiled at you and my lips moved as well, still no sound was heard. You smiled at what I had said and leaned in closer as each second passed by, the distance between our faces and our lips decreased and just when your lips were about to touch mine… My alarm clock went off and I fell off the bed with a huge hard THUMP." Natasha read aloud for her friends to hear. She handed the journal back to its owner Evelyn.

"Oh my gosh, Evee did you really dream that?" Natasha squealed as Evelyn closed her journal and placed it aside.

"Yes Nat. I wrote it down as soon as I woke up." Evelyn replied while putting away the dark purple journal with a white bold 'PRIVATE' written on the cover.

"Wow Evee, you always seem to have such great dreams and to actually remember every detail of them is fascinating." Kristine added, pointing her mechanical pencil at Evelyn.

"Thanks, I really enjoy every single one of my dreams, they're like my own fantasy world, that's the reason why I started writing them down in my journals. This one is almost full; I'm going to have to go buy a new one soon." Evelyn stated while pointing at her backpack. Nat had her thinking face on; she turned to look at her sister Kris, and then turned her sight towards Evelyn.

"So, Evee, the guy in your dream, could he be the same guy you've been crushing on for years… you know, your 'Mystery Guy' as we know him as." Nat questioned while pointing an accusing finger at her friend.

"Uhm, yeah… maybe he could have been my mystery guy, I don't know… I'll let you two figure that out for yourselves." Evelyn laughed at the pouting faces her friends made.

"Oh, come on Evee, we've been best friends for the past three years and you still haven't told us who your 'Mystery Guy' is… I don't find that fair at all." Kris whined, air quoting the words 'mystery guy', wishing she and her sister knew who the guy was and why Evelyn was so deeply in love with him. "Evee, do you not find it extremely hard keeping your feelings locked up in your heart? For God's sake, you've loved him for a freaking long time! It's pathetic how you just won't confess your feelings of love to the guy!"

"Kris, it's not pathetic, it's simple logic. You wouldn't want the guy of your dreams to reject you now, would you? Besides it's not so easy to go up to a guy like him and blurt out a confession. He's…" she slowly sighed. "He's not like any other guy; this guy is special." That last sentence Evelyn said in a gentle loving whisper while her eyes twinkled, and her cheeks blushed a rosy color.

"A guy like him you say… we don't know who 'The Guy' is to begin with, so please do tell how you expect us to sympathize with you?" Kristine emphasized the words 'the guy' with a raised eyebrow then shook her head. "I still find you pathetic and Natie agrees with me, right sis." It wasn't meant as a question but a fact statement. Natasha only nodded her head in agreement.

Evelyn sighed and scratched the side of her head. "Sorry girls, I really can't tell you who he is. It's not that I don't trust you, you two are my best friends it's just that I don't want to make such a big deal of something that might never be." The twin sisters looked at each other and back at Evelyn, and with a 'fine…' from both, the subject was dropped. "Alright you two, it's time for me to leave, the boy's track practice is about to end, and you know how my big bro gets when I make him wait." The girls giggled at the sight of Matthew getting frustrated and nodded their heads. "I'll see you tomorrow morning for practice." Evelyn left out the door and towards the sports field.

Evelyn McNealy, a junior at Remington High School. She's an out-going, energetic and active girl, has light brown color hair and honey color eyes. Evelyn's height is 5'3, not so tall, she has a natural tan color skin due to all the out-door sporting activities. She's into many sports; volleyball, soccer, softball, tennis, etc.… but her main sport will always be basketball, no matter how short she is, she's still the best in her team and also the captain of basketball and a few others.

Matthew McNealy is Evelyn's older brother and a senior at Remington High School. Just as Evelyn, Matthew has honey color eyes, but his hair is more on the blonde side. He's opposite of Evelyn when it comes to height, he's 6'0 yet he too has a naturally tan skin but with a male masculine body. Matt is also into sports; baseball, basketball but his number one sport will have to be track. He and his best friend are known as the best in sports… without these two the school would have never been able to win any of the boys' basketball games nor would it have been able to beat the world record of the fastest runners. The McNealy's living room is filled with trophies and medals from both Evelyn and Matthew.

Alexander Khinbert, Matt's best friend, was also a senior at Remington High School. He's a few inches taller than Matthew, 6'2. Alex has dark black hair and hazel nut color eyes… just as Matt, Alex is into sports, and favors track, thus also having a naturally tan skin. Matthew and Alexander have known each other since they were in their first year of Middle School. He is just as popular as Matthew and Evelyn and since all three of them have known each other for a long time they are known as 'The Gods and Goddess' of Remington High.

Kristine and Natasha Smith are fraternal twin sisters, juniors at Remington High School. They both had been best friends to Evelyn since they all entered High School. The twins have bright blonde hair, Kristine's has natural curls while Natasha's is naturally straight. They have green color eyes, though Kristine's have more of a blue hint to them. They're about the same height as Evelyn, around 5'1-5'3, Natasha being the shortest. Kris and Nat are into the same sports as Evelyn, and they are also co-captains of a few. Although they are not as popular as Evelyn, the twins still have their own small fan-club.

Evelyn finally reached the field a bit worried, for her sake, that she might have been a little late. To her surprise and not to mention luck there was a practice race going on. She walked closer to the field for a better look only to find her older brother, Matthew, and his best friend, Alexander, being the ones doing the racing. They were head-to-head with each other and everyone around cheered for their favorite; "come on Matt you're almost there!" some people screamed while others screamed for Alex, "you can do it Alex this should be a piece of cake for you!" It was mostly the teammates cheering and guys practicing for other sports around the field, since the girls had been banned from the fields during practice, seeing how they tended to distract the guys too much.

Everyone saw how Matt managed to run ahead of Alex and Evelyn couldn't help but scream, cheering not for her blood-related brother but instead for the boy falling behind. "Go Alexander! Run faster, you know you can beat Matthew's ass!" Most of the guys turned their sight towards 'The Goddess' of the school, Alex included. With a wave and smile, Alex's pace increased and in just seconds he passed Matt and crossed the finish line. Their teammates ran to congratulate them both while Evelyn stayed standing on the same spot. She saw how her brother and his best friend high fived the guys around them before Alex made his way pass his team and towards Evelyn with a cheerful yet tired smile across his face. "You won." Evelyn congratulated him with a giggle.

"Yep, and I owe it all to you, Ev. For some strange reason, your voice always gives me the strength to go faster." His face turned a rosy shade, Evelyn's face doing the same.

"Hey Alex, bring my sister over here already!" Matt called out from the large group of guys. Alex coughed a couple of times, clearing his throat.

"We should go join them…" He pointed at his team with his thumb; his back was given to them.

"Yeah, we should…" Alexander placed his hand on her back. The two walked awkwardly side by side towards the others.

Matt placed his arm over his younger sister's shoulder once she had reached his side, he playfully pinched her cheek. "You're such a traitor little sis. Cheering for Ale instead of your older brother, that's mean. It hurts my heart…" Evelyn only 'ouch-ed' as the group around them laughed at the lovely brother-sister scene.

"Hey, no fair, I want to join in your lovey-dovey brother-sister playing, too." Alex whined as a two-year-old, which in truth was funny seeing how he was already 18 years old.

"You're not blood related Ale, so no can do." Matt said as he elongated the word blood. He stopped pinching Evelyn's cheek and was now holding her in a protective brother's embrace. Evelyn staying still imitating a statue while holding her breath due to the 'man' odor around her.

"Well… we have known each other for all of Middle School and High School, doesn't that makes us practically related?" Alex questioned in his defense. Evelyn could swear that the guys around her were enjoying the little show, 'who had the most right to be cheered on by Evelyn and why', should be the name of the game by now. She was already used to this; they did it every single day, but she was not so used to the stingy odor around her.

'I'm going to have to take a long hot shower when I get home.' She thought while trying her best to breathe through her mouth, pushing Matthew away from her to no avail.

"Okay you have a point there; you and I are practically like brothers, unfortunately for you Evelyn doesn't fall into that category…" Matt began saying but was suddenly and unexpectedly cut off by Alex.

"Of course not, she's in the soon-to-be My Bride, category." He said it with so much confidence but soon his own words seemed to have caught Alex by surprise.

'That was… unexpected…' Evelyn thought as her eyes were wide open and her cheeks turned into a pink color.

"Right... can't argue with that." Matt simply said as he released a shock Evelyn and pushed her lightly to Ale's body. "It's your turn to take her home… I have some place to be tonight."

Alexander grabbed Evelyn by the shoulders and leaned to whisper in her ear. "I won you this time." Evelyn was glad that her back was given to everyone, Alexander included, because she wouldn't have liked for them to see her madly blushing. The guys around them howled and whistled at them, a few even yelling for them to get a room, Matt of course hit those who spoke across the head. Yet there was one specific guy at the far end of the field who wasn't at all amused at the scene he witnessed.

"Enjoy her while you have the chance Khinbert because soon Evelyn McNealy will be mine once and for all." He challenged aloud while balancing one foot on a soccer ball.

Alexander took a quick shower at school and drove him and Evelyn home. The radio was turned on low, yet Evelyn could still hear and follow the lyrics singing them mentally.

"Uhm hey Ev… about what I said to Matt, about you becoming my bride. I did not mean to blurt that out of nowhere. It was just a joke of the moment." Alex was the first to speak after a while of pure silence.

"Eh, oh don't sweat it; I understand why you and my brother do it… it's all about the competition after all." Evelyn replied as she shook her hands in an 'it's okay' matter.

"I don't want you thinking that either, Ev. Your brother and I aren't always competing against each other, when you're around all we do is play around because we both want to see you always happy and smiling. You and I have known each other for quite some time and just like your brother you too have turn into part of my family." Alexander turned his sight to Evelyn and gave her a smile while caressing her left cheek with his thumb. That made her instantly remember her dream and she rapidly turned to stare out the window, disappointment was written on her face.

"I wish you would stop saying that I'm merely family to you." She mumbled under her breath; she hated it when he said she was only family to him.

"Did you say something?" Alexander questioned but Evelyn just shook her head in response as she still stared out the window. After a couple more minutes of a silent ride home, Alexander finally pulled into the McNealy's driveway; Evelyn rapidly grabbed her things and got off, fast walking towards her front porch. She turned back to look at Alexander in confusion when she heard the engine turn off and him slightly slamming the door shut. He took notice of her expression and stated once he had reached her side. "Your mom asked me to stay the night since she's over at your grandma's. She called my mom, said something about your grandma needing some taking care of and not coming back for about three days or so." He said with a smile, scratching the back of his neck. "So… seeing how it's just going to be you and me tonight, want to order some pizza and watch scary movies?" Alexander knew exactly what Evelyn liked and he had suggested two of her favorite things to do when no parents or legal guardians were around. A huge smile formed on Evelyn's face and Alexander knew that meant 'hell yeah'. They ran into the house once the door had been open, almost tripping with the front door rug.

First things first, the pizza had to be order and the movies chosen. "Alright the pizza is on its way." Evelyn stated as she placed the phone back on the receiver. "Damn, I smell like sweaty armpits… I should be thanking you and my brother for that." Alexander chuckled at her comment as he continued searching for the scariest movie he could find. "I'm going to go take a shower while the pizza gets here; you know where the money's at just in case it arrives before I get out."

"Yep, don't take long or I'll eat the whole thing myself."

"You wouldn't dare!" She yelled out from the staircase.

"Just hurry up!" He laughed while still sorting through the movies being displayed on screen.

After a well needed and relaxing hot shower, Evelyn changed into comfortable clothes. Alexander had picked the movie already and they were seated next to each other in front of the TV, munching down on their slices of pizza. Every now and then Evelyn would scream under her hand at a very terrifying scene. Alexander would only chuckle at her reactions. "I wonder what the guys at school would think or say if they knew you scream like a little girl when watching scary movies…" Another scary scene came out and Evelyn scooted on the couch closer to Alexander. "Not to forget that you also cling onto whatever or whoever is next to you." Evelyn turned her eyes from the TV to Alexander and realized that her hands were tightly holding onto his arm.

She made no attempt to let go but she did loosen her grip as she replied. "They would probably want to take me out to watch scary movies with them. I'm their goddess, remember, everything I do fascinates them no matter if it's something childish."

"Lucky me, then… with Matthew around no guy even dares to ask you out. Remember what happened to Ryan Clement? Poor kid, he took the courage to ask you out on a date and Matthew kicked his butt in a second."

"Oh yeah I remember that it happened my freshman year. After that, no other guy dared to ask me out. I wonder if you weren't his best friend would he kick your butt, too." They had stopped watching the movie by now, Evelyn still held onto Alexander's arm. Alex knew that movie time was over, so he turned off the TV deciding to leave the ending for later.

"Matthew would have… or at least try." They both laughed. "I don't think he would have let me even get close to you."

"He didn't when you two first met. It took Matthew almost two years for him to trust you to be around me." Evelyn leaned back on the couch, resting her head on Alexander's shoulder. "Hey, tell me how you and Matthew first met."

"Again…?" Evelyn just nodded her head while closing her eyes. Alexander let out a small sigh. "Fine… it was the first day of our first year in Middle School. I was walking with my group of friends in the hallway when a shrimp bumped into me, 'Watch it Punk!' he said to me with so much confidence that I just had to respond with a comeback, 'You watch it Shorty!' I said with as much confidence as him. The kid just snorted and walked away with his group of friends. My first thought of him was that he was a pussy for walking away from a fight, during the day I had him for most of my classes which truly annoyed me because in every one of those classes, we were assigned to sit next to each other… come on I didn't want to have a pussy sitting so close to me. Finally last period was my favorite class ever, PE and to start off the year, the coach made us have a basketball match. We were randomly chosen but amazingly The Shrimp and I were the captains of each team. When I saw his face for being called out, I changed my mind about him being a pussy because he had a wide smile from ear-to-ear that could only mean he was going to enjoy this. He slowly walked up to me and with that wide smile still on his face said to me. 'Get ready to finish what was started, you'll be eating my dust Punk.' I knew right away he was challenging me, and I never turned away from a challenge. 'Bring it on, Shrimp.' I replied while in my face was the same wide smile he still showed. He walked towards his teammates and I towards mine. The play was chosen, and it was time to show everyone who the best was. Nobody could stop us, not even the coach, the game went on for an hour and the score was tied 19-19. We were all tired, but the Shrimp and I were still not satisfied with the results, it was not good that we were tide. All our teammates had already left, so it was a one-on-one game, both our moms were watching the game, giggling at how troublesome their child was, meaning us of course. 'One last shot Punk, are you ready to give up?' He questioned yet he could barely catch his breath. 'In your dreams, Shrimp.' I replied as I took the ball from him but just as I was about to shoot, a smallish scream meant to be a cheer distracted me. 'Go, go Matthew, you can win this game!' When I turned to look at the tiny girl with pig tails jumping up and down in-between our moms, the Shrimp took away the ball and made the shot. The ball bounced away and the little girl ran towards him jumping to be picked up. He picked her up and then walked towards me, lifting his hand for a shake. 'You were pretty amazing… sorry for the bump and name calling.' I was surprised that he was actually apologizing instead of rubbing it in my face. I shook his hand and said, 'You were amazingly good too, it was a nice game… I also apologize for the bump and name calling it was childish of us, uh?' He agreed and we laughed, the little girl also laughed with us even if she did not know why we laughed. After that he and I became best friends and since then we've been inseparable." Alexander finished and Evelyn opened her eyes.

"Mmh, I sometimes still wonder what would have happened if I hadn't cheered for Matthew… you would have won and then what? Would you two have become friends or continue being enemies?" Evelyn turned to look up at Alexander and had already released his arm only to have it wrapped around her waist; with his free hand he held her chin.

"Yeah, that could have happened, but I'm grateful that you screamed out because then I wouldn't be here with you." Alexander leaned in and kissed her lips. "When are you going to allow me to tell everyone that you're my girl?" Alexander questioned as he parted from the kiss. Leaning his forehead on hers.

"When you stop saying that I'm just family…"

"Fine I'll stop when you finally confess to everyone that I'm your Mystery Guy. I still don't get why you produced the idea of having a mystery guy, it just makes people want to wander into your personal life."

"I actually find it amusing how everyone questions themselves who the goddess of the school is so deeply in love with. Besides if you don't like for people to wander into others' personal life why do you insist on them knowing that you're my mystery guy?" Evelyn questioned but she already knew the answer, she just loved hearing him say how much she meant to him.

"You clearly know why, Ev." Evelyn giggled and shook her head. "You just want me to say it, don't you?" She nodded; he let out a small sigh, a smile on his face. "I don't want any guy to go near you. You're my girl, right now and forever… I don't ever want to let you go. I will never give you up to any other guy. I love you, Evelyn McNealy." Their eyes were staring right at each other.

"I love you too, Alexander Khinbert." They kissed and each second that passed the kiss deepened and intensified. Evelyn lay down on the couch, Alexander lying on top of her.

"Get off my sister Ale…" The couple heard Matt saying from over their heads, Alexander jumped off the couch and to his feet, while scratching the back of his neck and giving Matt a nervous smile.

"What are you doing here; I thought you said you had somewhere to be at after practice…?" Alex questioned while Evelyn sat up on the couch and fixed her shirt, annoyed that her brother had interrupted.

"It didn't mean I was going to take all night." Matthew stated as he took a seat on the single couch and grabbed a cold slice of pizza. He turned to look at his best friend who seemed like a statue standing at the far end of the couch. "Ale relax and sit down. If I had seen, you naked or in bed with my sister then I would have kill you and bring you back to life to clean up the mess." Alexander re-took his seat next to Evelyn and placed his arm around her shoulder.

"Where were you?" Evelyn finally questioned while resting her back on Alexander's chest.

"Mom asked me to go pick up our basketball game pictures." Matt took out four different envelopes; their mom loved taking lots of pictures during the games they had.

"Let me see!" Evelyn called out as she reached out to grab the pictures, Matthew handing them to her. She started looking through them, 'wow-ed' and 'aah-ed' over most of them, Alexander also looking through them from over her shoulder. "It stinks that basketball season is already over… oh well, I can't wait to see your track competition this weekend! Will you two beat your own records?" Evelyn questioned excited about her brother and boyfriend.

"We hope so, right Ale?"

"Hells yeah!" The guys high five over Evelyn's head, the three of them continued chatting about the upcoming games and how all three of them were going to win every single one with no sweat.

The night felt long for Evelyn as she lay in her bed wishing that her big bro would let Alexander sleep with her. He knew they wouldn't do anything but unfortunately that was his number one rule: no sleeping on the same bed. She touched her lips still feeling the warm sensation from Alexander's lips. There was a low knock on the door and Evelyn sat up in her bed while the door opened quietly. Alexander rapidly walked into the room and closed the door behind him. "What are you doing here?" Evelyn questioned in a whisper as Alexander made his way towards her bed.

"I want my girlfriend to keep me warm because the guest room feels like a freaking cooler." He got in bed and under the covers.

"Eek, your feet are freezing." Evelyn squealed while resting her head on his bare chest. "You wouldn't have been so cold if you didn't sleep in only your Barney boxers." She added closing her eyes, soon feeling each other's body heat.

"Hey they're not Barney… its SpongeBob." Evelyn giggled as she turned up to look at him. Alexander gave her a loving smile before saying, "Sleep well, I love you."

"I love you, too." Evelyn kissed him goodnight and re-took her place on his chest, he held her hand while embracing her close to him.
