Evelyn woke up to find that Alexander was no longer by her side. 'He probably left before my brother woke up.' She thought while yawning and stretching her arms. It was six a.m. and she had morning practice for softball, the final game being the weekend after next. Lazily she got out of bed and made her way into her restroom to clean up and change into her softball uniform. Once she was dress and fully awake Evelyn grabbed her duffel bag and threw in the clothes she was to wear during the day at school. Evelyn was ready by six-forty and practice started at seven-fifteen, she walked downstairs and into the kitchen to eat some breakfast only to find Matthew and Alexander already seated by the counter fully dressed, drinking orange juice, and eating a bagel with cream-cheese. "Good morning." Evelyn greeted giving them each a kiss on the cheek.
"Good morning sunshine." Alexander replied handing her a bagel, the juice and blueberry jam.
"Morning sis." Matthew also greeted as he munched down his food.
"I have softball practice today, so Kristine and Natasha are going to pick me up." Just as Evelyn took her last bite a honk was heard from outside. "That's them… I'll see you two at school." She gave another kiss to Matthew on the cheek, but a peck on the lips to Alexander.
"Take care Ev, we'll see you in a bit." Alexander called out as his girlfriend left through the door. Matt looked at the now empty hallway then back at his best friend and shook his head.
"You're still bothered by the fact that Evelyn wants to keep your relationship a secret, aren't you?" Matt asked the guy who still stared out the kitchen door. Alex turned his attention back to his friend, rubbing his eyes with his thumb and index finger before answering.
"How can I not be? We've been dating for four years and only you and our mothers know about it. It's not easy to hold back kissing her, hugging her, touching her when we're at school. I get so jealous when other guys think they can pick her up… I want them all to know that she's taken, not available… my girl." He was frustrated at himself for being such a weak boyfriend but come on a guy could only take so much.
"I don't know what my sister is thinking, but I think she does it for your own good. You're a year above her, you two have completely different classes and friends, and at school you two have completely different lives from each other. Evelyn doesn't want to own you, prevent you from doing what you want when you're at school; she thinks too much of what would be best for you." Matthew said with a serious expression on his face, he loved his sister so much but when it came to the relationship she and Ale had, he couldn't help but think of her as weird. For crying aloud, what girl wouldn't die to be as close to Ale as she is?
"I see your point there but… I still wished she could be more selfish. I wouldn't mind giving up everything I have just to be always by her side. I love your sister Matt… Evelyn is my whole world." Alex placed his fisted hand on the counter while looking down at the other clinching his jeans.
"Damn Ale, cupid must have really hit you hard." Matthew patted his friend's back; Alex loosened his grip on his jeans and flattened out both hands.
"You can't imagine how hard." Was his only reply as they stood up and headed for the living room to watch some TV before it was time for them to head for school.
Evelyn got out of the house with her backpack and duffel bag in hand. "Good morning girls!" She sat on the back seat of Kristine's car and greeted the twins with so much excitement it surprised them.
"Good morning." Natasha greeted her from the passenger seat as she looked back at her friend with a questioning look on her face.
"Aren't we cheerful this morning? What happened? Did you finally decide to confess your feelings of love to your mystery guy?" Kristine questioned without knowing she wasn't wrong and had actually hit bull's-eye.
"No!" Evelyn replied with laughter. "I guess I just woke up on the right side of the bed this wonderful morning." She giggled remembering last night's event.
"Hey was that Alex's car on the drive-way?" Nat asked while turning to look at Evelyn with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah, he stayed over last night. My mother left for a few days to go take care of my grandmother, so she kindly asked Alexander to stay over while she was away." Evelyn replied, trying to hide a smile from showing on her face as the memory of last night increased, having slept with Alex last night made her extremely happy.
"Man, how much I wish I could be you these next few days, being alone in the same house with the two gods of Remington High must feel like a dream come true." Nat squealed while Kristine laughed at the ridiculous way her sister phrased her imagination world.
"I don't quite see what's so great about those two, no offence Evelyn, but they're just normal high school boys." Kristine said while taking a left turn into the school's parking lot.
"Do you really mean that, or are you secretly crushing on one of them?" Evelyn jokingly asked, knowing exactly who her friend was deeply in love with.
"Yes, I mean that; you girls know who I'm crushing on." They were now walking towards the field with their bags in hand. Nat and Evelyn stared at each other and with a smirk on their faces squealed out in unison.
"Jonathan Miller!" The name echo-ed in the parking lot, Nat and Evee laughing in unison as they saw how Kris' face turned bright red at the mentions of the guy's name.
Jonathan Miller a senior at Remington High School and also the Student Council President. He has brown hair and navy-blue eyes, a bright white smile, and a well-built body; although he's not much into sport, he still likes to do exercise in his own time. He is known as Jona by most of the school, he has the brain and the looks… but unfortunately, from out of the entire school, he is the only one that hasn't notice Kristine's feelings for him.
"Come on girls stop joking around, we have practice, remember." Kris stated as she walked in front of the other two.
"Uhm Kris, when are you going to confess to Jona?" Evee asked now, being serious about the subject.
"When you decide to finally confess your feelings to your mystery guy… once you do so, I'll go and confess my feelings to Jonathan." Kristine said flat out and with that the conversation was brought to an end. The girls reached their teammates and started to warm-up right away.
All the girls were dead tired once practice was over. "Damn Captain, you had way too much energy during practice… did anything happen?" A red-haired girl with pale skin asked while blow-drying her curly hair.
"What are you talking about Emily, aren't I always energetic during practice?" Evelyn questioned while tying up her hair into a messy bun and brushing her bangs to the side.
"This time you over exceeded yourself." Evelyn laughed in response knowing it was the truth. She patted the girl on the shoulder and walked out the locker room and towards her locker, humming some random tune. Evelyn paused at her locker and with a raised eyebrow found a small pink object stuck to the door of her locker… it was a rose, with a note wrapped to it.
"What in the…" Evelyn took the single rose and read the small paper attached to it. 'Your brother and bodyguard will soon graduate, giving me the perfect opportunity to finally steal you away. Sincerely, Your Secret Admirer.' "My bodyguard… What?"
"Hey Ev, how was…" Alexander began asking but trailed off when he saw what Evelyn was holding. "What's that, and more importantly who's it from?" A hint of a jealous rage was heard in the tone of his voice.
"It's a rose and it says here it's from my secret admirer."
"Your what?!" Damn he hated when things like this happened, guys thinking they could win her over by giving her lame presents.
"Here…" Evelyn handed Alexander the note for him to read.
"Your bodyguard… What?"
"Same thing I asked. The guy is probably referring to you." Evelyn poked Alexander on the chest. She laughed at how Alex had used the same exact words she had a second ago. She saw Alexander's expression and knew just what he was going to ask so she replied before he did so. "I have no idea who the guy could be, and no I don't plan on keeping the rose." Alexander's expression changed and he smiled at how well his girlfriend knew him.
"So… putting the secret admirer things aside, I was wondering if I could kiss you, right here right now?" He leaned forward whispering in her ear. Evelyn shook her head and pointed behind him. Matthew, Kristine, and Natasha were walking their way.
"Great timing…" Alexander mumbled under his breath and took a step back, leaning back onto the lockers.
"Oh my gosh, who's that rose from? Is it from you Alex?" Nat cheerfully questioned as she pointed a finger from the rose to in Evee's hands to Alex, who looked at her with a raised eyebrow. Matthew turned to look at his best friend also wondering the same thing.
"It's not." Alex said in his defense as he caught Matthew's glare. "Single pink roses are not my thing. I would send a bouquet of roses."
"Then could it be from your mystery guy?" Kristine questioned right away, not knowing that she was practically asking the same question her sister had just asked.
"It's not from my mystery guy." Evelyn replied, shaking her free hand in a 'no way' matter.
"How can you be so sure?" Kristine asked once more, and this time the one to reply was not Evelyn but the mystery guy himself.
"Her mystery guy wouldn't be such a coward and wait for her older brother and bodyguard to graduate to confess his feelings for her." Alexander air quoted and emphasized the word 'bodyguard', showing an irritated expression on his face. 'I'm no bodyguard, I'm her damn boyfriend!'
"Her bodyguard… What?" Matthew, Kristine, and Natasha questioned in unison while Evelyn chuckled at the fact that they had all questioned the same thing, using the same exact words. Without saying anything, Alexander handed the group of three the note he still held in his hand.
"In other words, you're the bodyguard?" Kris pointed an accusing finger at Alex; he nodded as his only response while crossing his arms across his chest and pouted.
"And this guy thinks he can steal my little sister away just because Ale and I aren't going to be around after graduation?" Matt stated yet no one said anything, it was more of a question being asked to himself. 'Could he… Will he be able to?' He looked up at his friend and sister with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Well at least we all know one thing…" Everyone turned their sight to Natasha. "Come on guys, it's something even a kindergartener could figure out." They all raised an eyebrow; Nat just chuckled at how they all had a questionable expression. "Seriously?! The guy is not a senior."
"Right, we… we knew that." Matt said in defense of everyone, they all laughed yet Alexander gave Evelyn a look that said. 'I'm going to find out who this guy is and when I do…' but Evelyn responded with a look that said, 'don't do anything stupid, it's not worth it.'
