Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Sonia left Evie's room with so much pain in her heart, her daughter's words got her wondering about Evie's childhood.

Her daughter was right, they did not give her the time and affection she needed as a growing-up girl.

Sonia sank into the couch in the sitting room as she pressed her temples, she was exhausted and needed time to cool off.

Richard joined her in the sitting room and none of them said anything to each other, they only watched the television show on tv.

"Good morning ma'am," A security officer who entered the sitting room greeted her.

Sonia whipped her head around to see who it was, she did not recognize his face because he does not work in her house but before she could ask him who he was, he said,

"I was sent by madam Alice to get madam Evelynn."

"Oh!" Sonia exclaimed "I would go get her" Sonia added and left.

Sonia's heart was beating loudly as she approached Evie's room, how would she face her daughter? She felt ashamed of herself.

She turned the doorknob to open the door and then realized that it was locked from inside, she sighed as she knocked at her door gently. Of course there was no response, she was expecting no response.

"Evie please open the door," Sonia pleaded but Evie did not say anything.

"I know you can hear me. Alice, your future mother-in-law sent a security personnel to get you so please get yourself ready, I hope you would be downstairs in the next ten minutes," Sonia was pleading.

Evie did not utter a word but she received the message loud and clear, she heard her mother's footsteps which meant she was walking away.

Sonia came downstairs with a fake smile plastered on her face,

"she would be down soon," Sonia lied not knowing whether her daughter heard her or not, but she chose to believe that Evie would obey her.

Surprisingly, Evie came downstairs, she was dressed in a grey gown which had its length on her knees, she had a black face cap on her head and she wore a black sandal.

In one word she looked simple yet beautiful.

Evie did not spare her parents a glance, she only followed the security personnel who led her to where the vehicle was parked.

Evie entered the back seat of the Lexus RX 400h as the driver drove off.

Evie was lost in her thoughts that she did not know when they pulled up in front of Ezekiel's home, it was until the security personnel opened the door for her to alight, that she knew that they had arrived at their destination.

Evie made her way into the sitting room where Alice was sitting and waiting for her.

Alice sprang up to her feet as soon as she saw Evie, she engulfed her in a warm hug.

"You look good," Alice said, examining Evie.

"Thank you so much ma'am," Evie appreciated.

"From now henceforth, it is mother not ma'am, okay?" Alice asked and Evie only nodded.

"Are you not going to ask about your fiancé?" Alice asked as Evie sat on the sofa.

"I was, I… we… emm…" Evie stuttered not knowing what to say.

"I guess you guys have been chatting right?" Alice asked with a smile but it died down when Evie shook her head in disagreement.

"Do you even have Ezekiel's phone number?" Alice asked, Evie, bit her lower lip while Alice's eyes widen in surprise.

"How have the both of you been communicating? Don't tell me you both don't talk on a norm!" Though Alice knew the type of son she has, at least Evie should put some effort into getting to know Ezekiel the more.

"Anyways that aside, you guys would be meeting this evening, he went for a very important meeting with his dad however he would be back in the evening," Alice told Evie.

"In the meantime, you would keep me company, we would go shopping, we would make our hair, our nails and even spa, what do you think Evelynn?" Alice asked and Evie only smiled and nodded her head in agreement. This was going to be one long day.

The two women went from various shopping malls, buying different expensive clothes, shoes, purses, handbags, necklaces and earrings.

Then they went to the spa, and afterwards, they went to the salon to treat their hair and do their manicure and pedicure.

By the time they were done, it was already evening and they were heading to Alice's home, there were lots of shopping bags in the Jeep.

"Honey, where have you been?" Owens asked as he pecked his wife on her cheeks.

"Well I went out with my daughter in law," Alice replied with a smile and just then Owen's gaze shifted from his wife to the girl leaning on the door.

"Good evening sir," Evie greeted and Owens only nodded his head.

"Where is Ezekiel?" Alice asked her husband

"He is at Xander's place, he just left without a word," Owens replied.

Alice gave Evie a reassuring smile, only if she knew that Evie was grateful that Ezekiel was not home, he made her feel goosebumps.

Evie insisted on going home that night which Alice later approved.

Her parents, most especially her mom, were shocked to see the number of gifts Alice bought for her, only if Sonia knew that Alice was compensating her daughter beforehand. Alice knew that Evie would be in a loveless marriage and was trying to give her some compensation.

The rest of the two weeks was spent stress-free and her wedding preparations started. Her life as a married woman had just begun.
