Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

"Today is D~day!" Sonia said in excitement, she was over excited about the engagement party happening this evening.

After the dinner with the Owens, they agreed to have the engagement party done at the Tan's home.

The interior decoration was done under Sonia's supervision, if one sees her, they would think that she is the bride-to-be but the real bride-to-be was not happy about this.

Evie was getting ready for shopping, according to her mother, she needed her to look new and refined today.

Evie stared at the decorations being done and her mother running here and there just to make it look the best.

She must commend her mom for being one good fashionista.

"Are you good to go?" Sonia asked but Evie did not reply, this was how they had been living for the past two days, she had been ignoring her parents.

Sonia did not say anything, she just moved closer to her daughter and was about to reach for her face but Evie stepped backwards.

Evie's gaze connected with her mom's and the both of them stared at each other for some time, before Evie dashed out of the sitting room to the garage.

Sonia looked away, she was hurt, her daughter was no longer seeing her as a motherly figure, they were more like tenants living in the same apartment.

Whenever she complains to her husband, he would tell her that she would get over it but it does not seem like Evie was ready to forgive them.

Evie drove off with two female staff members who accompanied her to the boutique. The boutique was big and there were just a few people.

Evie and the staff went about, trying to choose the perfect gown for her.

Evie had given them instructions about the kind of cloth she likes, all she did was play games while the staff looked for her size of clothing.

After selecting the clothes, they went to the counter to pay for the clothes. Evie brought out her credit card and handed it over to the cashier to deduct her money.

Her gaze landed on someone beside her, the person's figure looked very familiar as she was trying to remember who the person was.

"Juicy?" Evie called out. The young lady beside her turned her head to the direction where her name was called,

"Evie!!!" Juicy screamed and then went for a hug, surprising both the cashiers and Evie's staff.

"Oh my goodness! Juicy? Is this you? I never knew I would be able to see you again after graduation" Evie exclaimed, having a hard time believing she was seeing her one and the only friend she had back then in college.

"Says the hip-hop musician, you think I did not follow you? I know every one of your songs and albums! I was like Evie is now a top celebrity!" Juicy exclaimed.

"Oh come on! Geez, only heavens know how excited and happy I am to see you after all these years," Evie stated.

"We seriously need to catch up on old times!" Juicy added.

"That is true but I do not think it would be today because my engagement party is today and…" Evie did not complete her statement because Juicy interrupted her.

"Engagement ceremony? You are getting engaged? To whom? How? I was sure the media did not announce you dating anyone. I am happy for you! What time is the party? I would be there for sure! What is the colour of the day?. Wait, is it champagne gold and coffee brown because those are your favourite colours?" Juicy bombarded her with questions

"Juicy!" Evie yelled a little more than usual because she had been calling her name while she was talking. Juicy stopped talking instantly.

"Here is my address and my number, do well to add me up on WhatsApp," Evie handed her over her card

"What about the engagement ceremony?" Juicy asked

"We would talk about everything when I have the time, right now I am very busy, see you at the party" Evie smiled at her and hugged her before they left together.

Evie arrived home, feeling happy. Her countenance changed immediately she entered the living room because she just saw the Owens sitting leisurely and gisting with her dad.

"Good afternoon," Evie managed to mutter, she did not even wait for a response, she left for her room.

Evie was not surprised to see two young ladies in her room, they claimed to be her makeup artist sent by her mother to get her ready for the party.

Her mom was hellbent on making this engagement party one hell of a big ceremony.

"My name is Agnes, and I am your stylist," the woman greeted and wasted no time working on her face while the other woman did her manicure and pedicure.

"For someone about to celebrate her engagement party, you do not look excited about it," Agnes who had been studying Evie's attitude since she started making her up said.

Evie glared at her through the mirror, "did they employ your services to make me up or ask me silly questions? Which one?" Evie asked and Agnes apologized immediately.

Agnes looked at the other lady doing her manicure and one could see that they already had a bad impression about Evie, not that Evie cared though.

'She is rude' Agnes muttered within herself.

After Evie finished dressing, she took a good look at herself in the mirror, she looked beautiful.

"I am sorry I spoke to you arrogantly earlier and I know you would say I am rude but I am not, circumstances had changed the real me, I can't even believe that I would turn out this way," Evie found herself apologizing to Agnes.

Agnes was shocked to the core, maybe you should not judge a book by its cover. What was she passing through that made her become like this?

"Does this have something to do with your party?" Agnes reprimanded herself after asking that question, she was expecting Evie to scold her rather she let out a heavy breath.

"Many things! Things I can't explain to you Agnes, I hope you can understand?" Evie asked and Agnes only nodded while perfecting the edges of her front hair.

It was time for her engagement party.
