The first class of the day is successfully done without Mia killing any of the students in the class. She thinks she cannot do this again tomorrow because she finally understands why people hate business students so much. They are all extroverts and showoffs.
She finally collects all her books and makes her way out of the room. While she is going down the stairs, she slows down when she is right on the last step. Her target is already surrounded by at least ten students and most of them are girls. She rolls her eyes and casually walks right past Carys.
Carys has already eyed Mia when he first entered the room. He saw her standing frozen as soon as her eyes met his. She looked delicate to him, the kind of person who would sit at a corner of a coffee shop while it rains outside. Carys thought to himself that maybe he would like to join her in the coffee shop. For the rest of the class, he couldn't see her and why would he?
Carys can be called a popular kid because of his father. He was just mentioned in the Times magazine. Could he be any more popular?
In college, he had a personality of his own. Business school wasn't his first choice but he gave in when his father asked him to do it. He would even jump in a fire for his father. His father is his hero. Carys hated business school students, they would always bring their startup ideas to him and he would turn them down but that doesn't scare them away. Who wouldn't want Carys Jones to look at their ideas? He hated being popular but also entertained people because he can never say no.
As soon as Mia walks out of the class, she starts looking for the library. She took turns into infinite lobbies and asks a bunch of people to finally find the library. The room is big enough for her to stare at for the whole day. There are uncountable bookshelves with small spaces left in between.
Mia looks for the section labelled as Fiction and finally goes to one of the bookshelves. There is so much silence and for a second it feels like something is wrong with the world or like time has stopped moving. Mia takes out one of the books from the bookshelf in front of her and waits. She waits.
She doesn't know what book she is holding until she sees a pair of Nike walking over to her from the corner of her eyes. She immediately darts her eyes back and tries to read the first page of the book. Apparently, the book is Before The Coffee Gets Cold. She abruptly remembers that she has actually read this book.
"Excuse me." The heavenly voice finally says. Mia has been waiting for this moment. She has been prepared for it but the air around her is heavy and filled with strange tension that could kill.
Mia looks up. Her gaze is soft and not fierce like Pericolosa. "Yes?" She softly says.
"Is this yours?" Carys has spoken. He dangles Mia's bracelet above Mia's head. He is taller than her by a few inches but the height difference seems a lot, weirdly.
Mia's eyes are wide open when she sees the bracelet and then she checks her left hand by bringing it in front of her eyes, "Oh My God." She says with concern in her voice. She thinks she is a great actress.
Carys scoffs, "Think of a better plan to get my attention next time."
Mia's breath is caught in her chest and she is still looking with wide eyes but now her gaze is on Carys. Her shock seems more real than before.
After a second, she comes back to earth. "What do you mean?" She manages to question the man. Carys dangles the bracelet and Mia snatches it away.
"Do you think a girl hasn't tried that with me?" Carys says as he comes closer to match Mia's eye level.
Mia looks at his eyes, she is looking at the eyes of her target like Pericolosa would. She is irritated and she is ashamed that she is caught.
"Look." Carys stands straight up slightly intimidated. "I can't date you, okay?"
"What?" Now, this is how you make Mia madder than she already was. She shoves the book back to the shelf and folds her hand in front of her chest. "Why would I want you to date me?" Her voice is sharp enough to turn some heads.
Carys looks around the library and apologizes on her behalf.
He bends down again. Mia is 5'6 and Carys is 6 and there is absolutely no need for the man to bend but he does it anyway. Mia is irritated more by his actions.
"Why would you throw your bracelet in front of my desk then? Do you think I would act as your puppy and bring it to you?" Carys asks even when he is aware that this is exactly what he has done. He has in fact followed the bait and acted like a puppy.
Mia huffed, "Get the fuck out of your delusion." She whispers right at Carys.
Carys pokes his tongue inside his left cheek and turns his head to chuckle. Mia backs up and starts walking right past Carys.
"What a facade?" Carys says and Mia turns her head towards him. "You don't seem like a feisty one by the looks." He finishes.
Mia rolls her eyes and walks right out of the library.
Carys laughs to himself and walks over to the spot where Mia was standing. He pulls out the book that Mia has shoved back messily and reads the title. Before The Coffee Gets Cold, he says to himself.
"I bet that she picked this one out of random." He laughs again but rather loudly and now he apologizes on behalf of his own self. He is amused.
