Chapter 6 - 6

"You should make friends with the students to blend in," Tony says sitting on the stool by the kitchen counter gulping down milk from the carton. Samantha is disgusted by him and snatches away the carton from his hands.

"First of all, what are you doing in my apartment?" Mia says and takes a bite of her sandwich which Samantha made for the three of them this morning as breakfast. Samantha sighs and takes a seat right next to Mia, resting her head on her shoulder.

"I am your roommate," Samantha says and Mia pushes her head away. "It is dangerous." She replies.

Samantha has been studying Arts at one of the New York Universities. She moved out when she was eighteen but has also been an active part of the Serpents by providing them with knowledge of the targets now and then. She has incredible research skills. She is basically a stalker, as Tony likes to say it.

"I do not care. You will never bring anyone to the apartment, I know. Also, it is weird that you get to stay in such a nice apartment alone. It will be suspicious and by the way, Dad agrees." Samantha prepared the reasoning first thing in the morning. Last night, they laughed and talked like the old times and then went to sleep but Samantha has already planned that she will be staying with Mia until this mission is completed, as long as Mia is in New York.

"Sugar." No matter how much Mia thinks that staying here together with Samantha is dangerous at the end of the day, she knows that she wants to spend as much time as possible with her best friend.

"Mia." Samantha rests her head on the reliable shoulder again and this time Mia doesn't push her away. At least, for now, she doesn't.

"But you," Mia points at Tony who is immersed in his phone, Tony looks over and stares at her in confusion. "Get the hell out of my house, right now."

Tony chuckled nervously and immediately got up. Samantha laughs at the misfortune of her brother but doesn't bother to stop Mia from throwing him out of the house.

"I will meet you in class, Mia," Tony says before stepping out of the apartment but suddenly something crosses his mind. He took steps back and turned to look at Mia.

"Did you talk to Carys yesterday?" Tony asks.

Mia sighs and clears her throat, Tony crosses his hands in front of his chest and Samantha also sits up to look at Mia.

"I dropped my bracelet in front of him," Mia speaks and Tony scoffs. Tony has of course seen Mia doing the deed when she walked past Carys yesterday after the class. There was some curiosity that led Tony to follow the both of them to the Library too. Eavesdropping was never in Tony's plan but it happened.

"He is a bitch. He said that I shouldn't try cheap tricks on him and he would never date me." Mia spilt the beans and Samantha was the first one to lose control and laugh. Tony followed after his sister and laughed too.

"It is not funny." Mia had a serious expression which made Samantha curl her lips inside her teeth.

"Well." Tony says, "You should try and blend in with the students and not drop these obvious hints to tangle up your target."

"I was not tryna date him…" Mia says, "I just wanted his attention. I need to know him better but I guess I will just observe him from afar. I don't want this mission to end before it even started properly."

"Mia. You can give up anytime, Okay?" Samantha says and caresses Mia's back. Mia is someone who is not very affectionate and Samantha is someone whose love language is care.

"I told you to stop, sugar. I know what I am doing. Why don't you guys let me be?" Mia snaps and this leads to Samantha retrieving her hand.

"It is not about letting you be, Mia. it is about the danger that you are putting yourself through. What happens if Carys finds you suspicious and honestly to think that he already is suspicious that you want to date him is scary enough." Samantha says and then looks over to Tony.

"I know I fucked up that one time. I should not have underestimated him and that's why I decided to go undercover. I want to know him that's how I can kill him." Mia explains.

"Mia, you don't know what you are doing," Samantha says.

"You think I don't know what I am doing." This was the boiling point of the water that was put on fire inside Samantha's heart. She just looks at her brother who stood frozen in his tracks and then sighs to let him and of course, Mia know that she has rested her case for the good.

"We are just looking out for you, Mia." Tony tries to calm both of them. Mia looks up at him and sighs too. Mia only has three people on her speed dial and if even one of them is missing, she will be lost forever.

"Yeah, yeah…no." Mia says, "I know." She looks over to Samantha who has her head hung low, "I know, sugar. I am sorry. Please trust me."

Samantha looks at Mia and nods. She then gets up and picks up her bag laying on the couch. "I will head out then." This is the last thing she says before she opens the door of the apartment to get out.

"I will talk to her. You need to leave for college too." Tony says and walks out of the apartment too.

Mia finds herself sitting in the middle of the apartment alone. Why does she find herself alone almost all the time? She thinks to herself but is unable to find an answer to the question. Defeated, she also picks up her bag and walks towards the door of the apartment to go through the second day of the world where she doesn't fit in, alone.
