Sky stepped out onto the front step closing the door behind him. As he walked down to the street a young wolf ran into him.
Sky crouched down and looked the wolf in the eyes, "Who are you?"
The wolf shifted into a young man, 3-4 inches shorter than Sky, "I'm the beta's son. Who are you to be questioning me?"
Sky got an evil grin on his face, "I'm the alpha's son. "
The boy got an odd look on your face, "You're who I'm supposed to be with? I thought you'd be... different."
"Different how?" Sky asked.
"Not like this," He gestured to Sky, "chock full of power like an actual alpha. I thought you would be this little thing that had no power, but you have this aura of someone who had power for most of his life."
Sky put his hand to the back of his neck, "Thanks?"
"Well let's get going. I've got places to be." The boy said.
Sky was a little bit surprised but just decided to follow him.
After walking for 10-12 minutes they came up to a warehouse where sounds of snarling and metallic clanging could be heard.
"This is where we practice combat in both forms. Human and wolf, sometimes we do scrimmages between two teams or a free-for-all." The boy said. Sky realized that he didn't actually know his name.
"That seems cool, have you won any scrimmages?" Sky asked.
The boy puffed out his chest in pride as they continued to walk to the warehouse, "I've won 23 scrimmages out of 37 scrimmages." He said.
The boy slid the door open with a sound like nails on a chalkboard.
"Ah Chris. So glad you could make it! I was just telling some of the new students about some techniques for personal defense. Would you mind helping me?" The instructor asked Chris. The instructor himself was a stocky man with a quantity of scars on his arms.
"Sure thing! But can I demonstrate on this guy?" Chris asked.
The instructor thought about it and replied, "Sure, You'll be showing in wolf form alright?"
Chris looked at Sky, "Come on, it'll be fun. You might get a little banged up but I won't go to hard on you." He said cockily.
Sky and Chris stepped into a sparring ring marked by the people surrounding it and pads on the ground.
"Okay, it's time for you two to shift." Chris shifted first, he stood at a tall 6'10" with husky like fur patterns. Sky grinned and let the shift flow into him, he had been holding it in ever since he had gotten here. Sky's shift took a little longer but when it was finished murmurs ran rampant in the circle. His fur was more like an actual wolf's, pure charcoal gray. "Alright, now that you're both shifted I'm going to count down from 3," He looked between Sky and Chris mentally weighing who would win, "3, 2, 1, GO!"
Sky and Chris were off like a rocket. Everyone in the building could sense that this was more than a match to show the new students the ropes, this was a battle of dominance. Due to this fact the instructor could do nothing but stand by and watch.
Sky went to slam his hand down on Chris' head but Chris dodged it. As Chris dodged he put a fist into Sky's stomach, making him double over. Chris took this opportunity to grab Sky's head and slam it into his kneecap. Sky felt his chances of winning the fight going down drastically so decided to do a risky maneuver. He used the momentum from Chris bringing his head down to swing his legs up and grab Chris' head.
'Dodge this you bastard' Sky thought.
Sky slammed Chris into the ground and started beating him into the ground. He had gotten Chris about a foot into the ground before he heard the instructor yelling at him, "Stop! This is enough! I don't care if you're battling for dominance, this is to far!" The instructor was red in the face almost hopping up and down in rage.
Sky stood up and looked at the mess that was Chris' face. Sky hadn't meant to go this far. He looked dat his hands in a nightmarish realization. Maybe being a werewolf was a curse, something best left in a box with the key thrown away.
Sky ran to the door. He ripped it open to the gasps of the others and ran into the woods. Chris found him several minutes later in a nook underneath a tree. Sky was quietly sobbing in his human form.
"Why are you crying? I'm fine." Chris said in a comforting voice. Sky looked up at him and saw the bruises and cuts left on his face from the beating.
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why did I fly off the handle?"
"You thought I was challenging your honor. Your wolf didn't like that. Everyone has their first freakout, just usually at a younger age. It's fine. I'm actually impressed! Not many can actually beat me that quickly." Chris said, if anything the praise made Sky feel worse. Was that what he was? A monster among his own kind? His life had been better at Chrysler's house. Not knowing what he was, not having to deal with urges to beat people into the ground or eat raw meat 24/7.
Chris took Sky's silence as an acceptance of the reasoning, "Come on, I know a spot where we can get some good kabobs. My treat."
Sky trooped after Chris stopping at his house for a change of clothes.
Chris led Sky to this little shop out on the fringes of the town. When they entered Sky could immediately smell the spices and meat that were this restaurants specialty. As Sky and Chris sat down a waiter came up to them, "So what will you gentlemen be having?"
"The usual. Two for me and two for him." Chris ordered.
They ate the kabobs in silence with the occasional 'this is good'.
After they finished eating Chris paid and they walked out. Sky put on a smile as he didn't Chris to feel bad. They parted ways at the intersection between Sky and Chris' house.
Sky opened the front door quietly and walked to his room. He lay on his bed and thought, 'What if I was back at Chrysler's?' Sky went to sleep that night with the thought of 'Why shouldn't I be at Chrysler's?'
