Chapter 9 - Reinforcements? Why should I?

Gabriel chuckled darkly, "Why would I give you my men to go reclaim your land? I can defend my lands from those rogues while you obviously can't."

"I couldn't defend my land because I wasn't there. But I promise that if you help me I'll pay you back, one way or another." Sky said sincerely.

Gabriel stood from behind his desk, "Now that's where you're wrong. You can't pay me back. Your pack lands will be so decimated that the only way that you could pay me back would be for you to give me your pack. So, unless you do that, I will not help you."

"Can we get a moment to think?" Lance asked Gabriel, who nodded.

Sky slammed the door to the office shut rattling the paintings on the walls, "That arrogant son of a b*tch. We shouldn't give him the time of day! We could just go get the land back ourselves!"

The rest of the group looked doubtful but nodded their heads.

"We attack at night." Sky decided.

The group left the pack house with their makeshift leader flipping off Gabriel.

The attack went horribly wrong.

Sky lay on the ground bleeding from the head.

Bob was impaled on a tree.

M was missing.

And Lance, well he was standing above Sky protecting him with all that he had.

"Stop attacking us. We just want to leave. Let us leave and you'll never see us again." Lance gritted out, surrounded by 20 wolves.

Micheal stepped forward, parting the wolves like Moses, "You signed your own death warrant the moment you stepped foot on these lands. So, if you want your death to be quick and painless, then stand down."

Lance knew that his energy was low, but his essence was untouched. He let out a low chuckle, his fists and eyes lighting up, "I will do what I've got to do to protect those that I love. So die you son of a b*tch!"

With these words Lance let the essence flow freely through him, empowering his every cell, but at quite a cost. With every punch, kick, and fireball thrown, he could feel time coming off of his life.

Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes turned into hours, and hours turned into years. But as he had said, 'I will do what I've got to do to protect those that I love.'

When all was settled, Micheal's head was nothing more than a pile of ashes. Wolf and human corpses alike covered the ground.

Lance staggered and fell to the ground in an unceremonious lump.

As Lance fainted Sky woke up.

Sky ran up to Lance and kneeled at his side, "Come on you beautiful pain in my butt. Wake up!" the lonely lover felt a dampness on his cheeks. He reached up and felt tears running down his cheeks.

"I told you this would happen if you tried to attack them on your own. Pick him up and follow me." Chrysler said wheeling himself up to Sky.

A few minutes after Chrysler left with his sons Gabriel appeared with his pack. "Go free the imprisoned pack members." He commanded.

As the men trickled out of the jail cells the women came out of their houses.

"I have liberated your pack, and removed the oppressors. Due to the fact that your alpha is dead and he has no heir stepping up, your options are to join my pack or become rogues. Make your choice." Gabriel yelled.

The entire pack erupted in murmuring.

Chris stepped forward, "What about Sky and Lance? They were both the sons of Taffer and Kirsty."

"Look around, do you not see the corpses on the ground? They're among them."

The crowd gasped.

"Follow me back to my pack lands and we can get this all sorted out."

---------------------------

Chrysler wheeled around to look at Sky, "I told you this would happen. I told you! He's used up most of his essence. He'll die if we don't do something soon." He said, his face softening at the end.

"Well what can we do?" Sky yelled.

"There's only one thing we can do. Request the Grand Councils help. I don't want to, but we have no other choice. They'll know what to do." Chrysler said.

The Grand Council was composed of seven members to prevent a tie from happening. Not surprisingly all of the members on the council were old men. They wore gray robes to protect their everyday identities.

As they walked into the council's chamber a voice thundered through the room.

"You will plead your case, and then leave after we have deliberated on your case."

Even Sky with his werewolf senses couldn't figure out where the voice was coming from.

"I humbly request your grand and vast knowledge. My son used his essence to protect his fated mate in battle and has since fallen into a coma. I request a way to help him." Chrysler pleaded to the council.

There was an ominous silence before the voice spoke once more, "There are two things you can do to help your son. Find the Mystic Healer in the mountains, or give your own essence to him. We can supply a map to the healer." After this the voice said no more and the room was so silent that Sky could hear his own blood pumping through his veins.

Chrysler gave a small nod to the council.

A scroll floated down to him.

The party left the temple weary despite doing nothing.

"What now?" A depressed Sky asked Chrysler.

He didn't know why Lance had been called his fated mate, and he honestly didn't care. He just wanted to help him.

"Well if you want to help him, we best get moving." Chrysler said.

"What do you mean get moving?"

"Well I'm not going to lose another like this, so let's go!" Chrysler started moving back to the manor to start preparing for the trek.

Sky had to sprint to catch up to him, the man was fast despite being in a wheelchair.
