The book was made out of stone, it looked as if it was petrified. The Title was on the cover with some decorations in each corner while on the back were a few phrases.
[This Grimoire belongs to the Great Magus Leylin, the ruler of the seven Sins and conqueror of the Void.
For thou who bear this Grimoire and is capable of reading the words inscribed upon it… I am aware that you do not belong to this World.
I do not know how you managed to get here, whether you are a Child of Destiny or something brought you, it doesn't matter anymore.
I have left this realm to explore the endless universe and can no longer bring my masterpiece with me.. You must have either got it in one of my Tombs or bought it off of someone, but the way you've acquired it is of no importance.
From this day onward, you are the beholder of the power that I've stolen from the Void, so use it wisely.
And do not forget… Show respect to Grim... The name of the Grimoire!
Call upon it and he shall answer]
"What the fuck? Who is Leylin and what is a Magus? Is it different from a Mage?" Connor muttered to himself bewildered. "Was he from earth? Why name it Grim? Is his naming sense that bad?" Connor was reluctant to do as he was told, but the Void was the power everyone used, which is held in the Void Tablets. Connor thought about it for a bit and decided. "He was probably someone like me right? Someone who came to this world randomly and managed to make something of himself.. As for the name Grim, I'll give him a pass"
Connor held the Grimoire tightly and spoke. "Grim!" He said out loud but nothing happened. "Is it broken?"
The Grimoire had no reaction at all which made Connor read the text again. "Call upon it?" Connor said. "Grimoire of the Void, beholder of the name Grim.. I call upon thee!" He remembered a few Anime and Novels he indulged in before and said the words that he always wished to say with reason and luckily, as if he hit the jackpot, there was a reaction.
A crack was heard from the sky with a rumble. It was as if the Void itself shook, answering a mere mortal's call. The stone engulfing the Grimoire started to crumble, slowly revealing the appealing dark purple cover with the countless pages.
[What is thy name?]
Words spoke inside Connor's head which made him freeze. He could feel the vastness and strength of each letter as they echoed inside his brain.
"C.. Connor!"
[The new Master successfully identified… Merging with the new Host]
The giant book suddenly flattened before turning into countless strings of Energy and merging into Connor's body. The suffocating feeling did not last long before vanishing. Connor stood there in bewilderment waiting for something to happen or feel some kind of power, but nothing came.
"Grim?" Connor called. The moment the words left his lips the same Grimoire appeared in front of him, floating in the air.. Only this time it was transparent.
[Host access restricted by the Great Master Leylin… Soul Energy required]
"What? Why would this Leylin restrict me? What's the point then?" Connor muttered.
As if the Grimoire heard his mumble it activated something.
[The Great Master has left a message!
If you're reading this then you must have been dissatisfied with my little restrictions.. Listen well you brat.
If power and intelligence was given to the unworthy, what do you think will happen?
If you wish for the Power the Grimoire holds, then earn it you lazy fuck!
Anyways, good luck with.. Whatever you plan on doing.
Goodbye!]
"Did this guy just cuss at me?" Connor frowned. "Damn, chill" After chuckling a bit Connor looked at the transparent Grimoire in front of him and tried to reach and open it.
Swish!
Connor's hand passed through the Grimoire like air as if nothing was there. He frowned, looking at it confused.
[Speak of what you seek and it shall appear for you]
Luckily, Grim quickly answered his question before he asked it. Connor looked at it and thought. 'If this thing holds all what the Void offers, does that mean Swordsmanship Skills too? Stats? Let's find out!"
"The Serpent Sutra" Connor spoke and Grim's pages quickly opened revealing 10 names each with their own descriptions.
[Viper Strike: The quick and merciless strike of a sharp blade. The beauty of each movement attracts enemies towards it!]
[Sidewinder: Named after the fastest snake in the world, the Sidewinder is a set of exquisite movement that demonstrates the flexibility and swiftness of a Viper]
[Cottonmouth Dash: Closing the distance between your enemy without giving them a single second to breath]
Connor was fascinated. This was something of a high speed dash that would give him the chance to end fights before they even started and he was excited the moment he read it, imagining the endless opportunities this Skill shall bring him, but the number that sat next to it was worrying. With a deep breath he read it.
"10 000 SE?" Connor frowned. "SE as in Soul Energy? Don't tell me the number at the top right corner of the page is what I have right now" He said worriedly looking at the measly 18 SE written in black ink. "I always hated grinding in games, now I'm doing this shit in real life" With no other choice he prepared himself for a day of endless hunting and Scavenging.
