Chapter 22 - New Missions

"A D-rank for an A-ranked mission, Snow, are you sure about this?"

"Yes Headmaster, I'm pretty sure Vincent would complete his mission, alongside Eden and Ivan."

"......" The headmaster remained speechless for some seconds before speaking up, "I'll entrust this into your hand Snow. If you say a student is exceptional enough to embark on a dangerous A-ranked mission, then so be it. I wonder why this boy, Vincent, hasn't been promoted into Rank A…."

"His choice, Headmaster!" Snow said with a smile, "His decision was to get into Rank D, then climb higher until he gets to his destination - Rank A which is."

"Okay, give them the mission. If a boy was so exceptional, why would he be placed in a beginners level."

_______

Vin sat under an apple tree, writing a short note on a book. His pen swiftly wrote the words…

"Every time I close my eyes, a wish passes my mind. Life has a better turn. Where happiness won't be covered in wails and games of deception. Only if this would work out, then a goodbye would be placed on a heart…"

[What the heck did I just write? It makes no sense!.]

Canceling and restarting, Vin's anger knew no bounds. Every word written down would always sound strange in his head, and Everytime it was canceled, the words would have a meaning.

Sighing out of frustration, he rested his back, giving up writing for the time being.

"How did I die?" He whispered. "..How did I die? Why can't I remember what happened? Why can't I remember my real life? Why? Just why?"

Shutting his eyes, flashes of memories passed by.

A little boy trying to cross the road…

A speeding taxi….

The boy fell down from his loose shoelace…

His mother was screaming, rushing to save him, as she spotted the incoming vehicle…

...….

It all became a blur.

[Damnit! I just can't remember.]

Taking in a last relaxation breath, Vin stood up, walking to the class. The calm mid-afternoon breeze blew through his hair, with the feeling of evening approaching.

Always adjusting his hood, Vin walked away.

"Your missions would start today, and also it would add to your points. I don't want anyone to lag behind, so, I'm giving each and everyone a group!" Akio announced immediately that Vin sat down. "Know that this will build up your skills and abilities to fight….."

"Good Afternoon and Welcome back Vin" Eden whispered a greeting.

"Good Afternoon" Vin replied, hearing all that Akio was explaining. "I can't imagine we are going on missions-"

"I'm just praying it won't be a solo mission!" He could hear Damien say.

"Solo or not, I'm ready to fight!" Ivan smirked.

"... Today's mission would involve a solo and a group. I'll be the one dividing you all," Akio snapped his finger, making a scroll appear.

Seeing this, Vin sighed.

[This place never tends to amaze me.]

"..... Ivan…"

"Yes Sir!"

"Your mission is to check Mt Vernon, there have been recent sightings of creatures lurking around!"

"Okay Sir!" Ivan smiled hearing this. His first mission would be heck of a kind.

"..... Damien…"

"Y-yes Sir?"

Akio took a deep breath, looking at the scroll and then, looking back at him, "Your mission is to accompany an old man to his village."

"Yes!" Tears of joy fell from his eyes.

"..... As he threw Bridge Neviles."

Damien became struck by an invisible lightning immediately he heard this.

"Bridge Neviles?" Vin's eyes went wide open.

"Yes, Bridge Neviles!"

"That's more of a journey Mr Akio to the kingdom of Valnel!" Ivan spoke up, realizing how far Damien would go.

"Luckily," Akio looked at him with a rather calm face, "Mount Vernon is after the Bridge, so you two can join heads together and go fight. No longer a solo."

Happiness again grabbed Damien's Heart. He thought death had placed his scythe into his soul.

"Lucas, Eden and Vin" Akio called, making the entire class go quiet.

"You are to go into Elaskor, a large town and kill two Demons," Akio looked at the scroll, his eyes went down before getting frowned, "An upper ranked Demon."

"You mean an A-rank Demon?" Eden asked.

"No, I mean an upper ranked Demon. An upper ranked moon Demon!" Akio answered, his face looking pale.

'Why would Snow send these children to fight an upper ranked Moon Demon. Don't he know only those in Rank A can defeat this Monster?'

Vin raised his head after reading Akio's mind. He never imagined Akio would ever feel so…. Worried and scared for their lives.

"Is an upper ranked Moon demon powerful?" Lucas asked a really important question.

"YES!" Akio closed the scroll, answering with just a word. "An upper ranked Moon Demon is on an ordinary level from an ordinary rank A demon. If we have enough time, I would have explained all the Demon's ranking and you all would know this is a world of pure suffering!."

The entire class went into shock before going numb as he said this.

Pushing his glasses, Akio stretched out his hands towards the class, "Complete this mission without dying, get ready to receive 1500pts!"

Again, the class went into a loud scream, everyone became motivated and ready to go.

Completing this mission would be easy as pie.

As they all share the same thought of getting into Rank C, Vin had a different mindset.

[Elaskor? An upper ranked Moon demon? Bridge Neviles? Mount Vernon? All these places are like a suicide outing. Mages with powerful magic and little combat knowledge! This school really is testing our skills not abilities.]

"Okay, let's all get to the important part" Akio sent the noises away, "Weapons would be assigned to you, more like the weapons would choose you!"

With just a clap, the class found themselves in a room filled with thousands and millions of ancient weapons, possessing their powers and ability.

"Welcome to the room of the unchained, where Weapons from various known powerful mages and knights are kept and passed down to the younger generations" Akio explained with his usual calm voice. "Remember, these weapons will choose you, so get ready!."
