Shaun couldn't sleep at all. He knew that the full moon was the next day. He didn't want to face his mom. He wanted to see Jane. He saw the time and it was five in the morning. He got up to get ready and leave before his mom gets up. Linda heard him leaving but she just stayed on bed.
He drove to school and texted Jane when he arrived hoping she would be awake. And she called him right away.
"You are awake?" Shaun was worried if he woke her up.
"Yeah, I am at Selina's. I couldn't sleep well." She said.
"Do you want me to pick you up?"
"Are you already out? It's early."
"Yeah. Couldn't sleep either. I will arrive in 30."
Jane jumped out of bed and changed very quickly. Selina was still sleeping so she snuck out. Shaun was waiting outside.
"Do you want to go on a date?" he asked her.
"Now? We have class. Are you asking me to ditch it all?"
"Can't you?" The way he asked casually without being fazed was quite profound.
"Let's go." Jane was already on board.
They drove out of the city enjoying music and having fun. After driving for 2 hours they found a cozy restaurant and stopped by to eat something.
"What are we supposed to tell James? Selina texted me and he is asking her where I am." Jane still didn't want her brother to find out.
"Don't worry about that already. We can figure that out when we get back." Shaun was very calm. "Here, what do you like to eat?" he gave her the menu.
"What do you like?" Jane asked Shaun.
"I am not really interested in anything. The only thing I like is to travel but it feels like something I can never do."
"Why? I mean you can if you want. What could hold you back?"
"It is complicated. Sorry, I can't explain it. Also I can't leave my mom. The only reason she live freely is me."
"That is the most dangerous thought. You don't have to be considerate of your mom. Plus all the solution you need could be conversation. You should talk with her." Jane didn't understand what he meant but wanted to help him.
"What about you? What do you like?"
"You are going to regret that you asked."
"Why?" Shaun was curious what made her say that.
"I am interested in many things such as martial arts, racing, archery, long range shooting and many similar more." Jane looked at Shaun to see his expression.
"You seem to enjoy intense sports. Well I guess that explains the crossbow in your room." Shaun was astonished by what interests Jane.
"How do you know I have a crossbow in my room?" Jane asked.
"I went to your house with James yesterday."
Their food arrived just in time to sooth their hunger. After their early lunch they went to take a walk around the city they didn't knew. They walked hand in hand talking, taking pictures and they spent the entire day having fun.
"It is almost 8. Shall we go?" Jane knew she would get chewed out by her family.
"Okay." Shaun was feeling really great in years.
"Jane. We are here." Shaun dozed off on the way back.
"Oh. I wasn't sleeping." She lied to his face.
Shaun laughed because she was so cute.
"Why are you getting out?" Jane saw that Shaun was already out.
"Have a goodnight." Shaun wished her goodnight and she went in. But he didn't leave he knew James was watching them he could smell James's particular scent. He turned around and saw James sitting on the park nearby. He went to the park and sat down beside James.
"So, you are dating my sister?" James was sitting there expressionless but Shaun could sense anxiety from him.
"What are you anxious about?" Shaun asked James in a calm tone.
"Do you know why I don't have a friend even though I know most of the guys?" James was showing emotions of disappointment.
"Because of Jane. Either they get close to me to get to her or end their friendship with me after they break up. I really like you Shaun. I want you to be my friend forever but if you end it with Jane, I am gone lose my friend."
Shaun didn't know that James was sentimental type.
"I can't end it with Jane just because you said that. I can't promise you I will last with Jane forever and I don't know if that is possible. But I met you before I met Jane and you became my friend before she became my girlfriend. So why don't we just follow the flow and protect what we have at all costs?" Shaun answered James's question in a very complicated way.
"What is this sense of defeat?" James was on sassy mode.
"You can never win against me James." Shaun answered back, they were already back on friends mode. After talking with James, Shaun went home and slept early because he was tired. Linda came upstairs to see him and he was knocked out. She watched her son for few minutes and went down.
