It was morning of the full moon, Shaun was not feeling good. He always overcomes of the urge to change into werewolf until he can. He hated the fact that he changes into beast every month and he wants to take over control of his shifting. But he was still young. He was contemplating on whether to go out or not. He didn't want Jane to see him like that again. He went downstairs and to his surprise his mother was not there. He looked for her everywhere in the house but still couldn't find her.
When he arrived, Jane was waiting for him.
"Hi." He came to her.
"Are you okay?" his complex was pale.
"Yeah, just little tired." He couldn't come up with another reason.
"I think you should go home early." Jane suggested.
"I am okay." He held her hand to reassure her and smiled.
"I think James is there." She was worried her brother might find out.
"James knows. I told him yesterday after I dropped you off." Jane froze at the spot where she was standing.
"What did he say?" she asked Shaun.
"Nothing much."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Jane wanted explanation.
"Let's go." He didn't let go off her hand and dragged her to where James was sitting.
"What's up? And why are you looking at me that way?" James's nonchalant attitude surprised Jane. She sat down without saying a word.
Shaun and James started talking without minding her. It was unbelievable situation but made her realize they were good friends and she was happy she didn't break that friendship.
"I will go with Selina today." Jane knew Shaun was not feeling good so she wanted him to go home.
Shaun drove very calmly not to make any mistakes to trigger his shifting. He arrived home but he couldn't find his mother. He went directly to the basement room. But it felt different this time, the pain was bearable he didn't lose consciousness. But he felt every of his bone breaking it was the first time he was aware of his shifting. He shifted into a wolf and he was still in control of his mind and sense. He went out slowly to the forest and run through the whole forest. It was the first time he became aware of his powers, senses, and speed as a wolf. And he was able to shift back to human at his will. This all things came to him at the same time. He wanted to tell his mom that he did it but she was not there.
He called Linda many times but she didn't answer the phone. He heard footsteps coming towards the door. His mother was drunk and could barely walk. He came to help her not fall down and she hugged him tightly.
"Shaun." She started crying.
"I am very proud of you my son. I knew you could do it. You are stronger than you think you are." She had a lot to say but had to cut it down because she couldn't tell him everything.
"Mom, I think we should get in first." Shaun supported her to her room and she fell asleep quick enough without telling Shaun what he wanted to know.
The next morning Shaun got up early to make breakfast because Linda would surely wake up with terrible hangover. He went to wake her up after preparing everything but she was already up.
"Mom, Let's eat breakfast."
"I am coming." She went out after washing up.
"Shaun, I am thinking of taking a trip for a while." Linda spoke after minutes of hesitation.
"A trip? Where? Why now? Is there really something going on with you?" Shaun couldn't understand any of her actions.
"It's just I want to rest. Plus you have already found your pace and control in shifting."
"No, mom. I have things to learn from you. Plus I have started to discover my powers only recently." Shaun was getting nervous now that she is not going to be by his side.
"I am sure you will figure it out." She stroked his hair gently and smiled. Shaun couldn't figure out what she was thinking or couldn't feel her emotions like before.
"Let's talk later." He grabbed his bag and left for school. He was very confused. He could use some space from Linda but that was unexpected from her. He may have figured it out of luck the first time so he hated to admit it but he needs Linda's help.
"What are you thinking about?" Jane opened the door and sat down beside him.
"Nothing." Shaun was startled.
"Do you want meet up later?" Jane asked him with tickets to a movie.
"Sure. But I have to go home before that. I will be back on time." He couldn't say no because she already had tickets in her hand.
Shaun has never drove that fast, he got home in few minutes and went straight to his mother's room. But he couldn't find her. The house was too quiet. He searched every corner of the house but couldn't find her. He went to Linda's room and tried calling her multiple times. After some time he realized her room was bit empty so he opened the closet. Her clothes was half gone. She was gone without giving him time to reorganize himself.
He suddenly started having trouble breathing. He was angry and that anger triggered his shifting without the full moon. He changed to a wolf and run out of the house. He tried to track her using smell but he was confused not being able to distinguish different scents in the surrounding. He wondered all night looking for Linda but couldn't find her.
