Later that day, Wen Yu stood in front of his dorm building with his automated luggage by his side. It was fairly large but looked quite ordinary and seemed out of place when compared to the grandiose atmosphere of most other dorms.
Sigh~
He controlled his luggage box after him as he stepped into the dorm. There were two hallways and he'd been assigned to the room on the left one.
It was quite cold. He rubbed his arms as he arrived at his room. With a single knock, he opened the door and stepped in.
There was just one person in a room that looked like it could contain five boys. The kid was currently digging in his box for something with his butt high up in the air.
Wen Yu cleared his throat.
The kid paused and turned around with wide eyes. When he saw Wen Yu, he smiled so wide that his eyes turned to thin slits on his chubby face. He rushed over and held Wen Yu's hand.
"Hello, I'm Qi San."
Wen Yu: '....' No f**king way.
Wen Yu calmly removed his hand from the kid's sweaty paws and moved to the side. Qi San? Another Qi San? Was the heavens mocking him?
No way is he falling for this again! He walked past the kid without a second glance and chose a random bunk bed to arrange his things.
Qi San stared at his new roommate with quivering lips. Did he do something wrong? He just wanted to make a friend, did he overdo it? Elder Song was right, no one would ever want to be friends with him because he was too fat and spoke too loudly.
He sniffled and sorrowfully walked back to his bed and focused on sorting out his stuff.
Wen Yu stared at the dejected panda-like kid from the corner of his eye. Why did he look like the world had collapsed on him? He really didn't feel comfortable with saying another word to the kid.
He had the same name as his murderer! A name that brought him nightmares. He might be a complete jerk but there was no way he was getting remotely close to another Qi San ever again.
Wen Yu conveniently ignored the fact that a mere name had nothing to do with the kind of person one turned out to be. There were tons of people who shared a name and surname.
It might be a mere coincidence but when he thought back to how trusting he was of the former Qi San and how he died, he just couldn't bring himself to comfort the kid.
The mere mention of the name made him flinch and caused his heart to beat faster in fear.
Soon enough, the rest of the roommates came in one after the other and Wen Yu noticed the Qi San kid never tried to greet anyone again.
He closed his eyes. Don't look and you won't feel guilty, he's just a kid anyways. Kids have low attention spans and short term memories so soon, the little kid would forget this incident and move on with his life.
Wen Yu forgot that the kids of this era were much more different. They matured early, had higher brain capacity and were definitely smarter than the kids of his former world!
The room was gradually brought to life as each boy marked their spot with personal items and whatnot. One bed remained empty though and it was the bed directly above Wen Yu's.
Wen Yu didn't get to wonder for long as the owner of the bed soon walked in. It was the little attendant that was with that Han kid earlier.
Wen Yu arched a brow. Wasn't the attendant kid supposed to be with his master? If he's here then does that mean he's also an aspiring student? The Lingxiu Academy invitation was quite easy to get afterall since an attendant could get one.
The boy said nothing and just rigidly walked over to his spot and started sorting his stuff. The rest of the boys just stared at each other and said nothing.
One of them couldn't take it anymore and spoke up. It was the smallest boy. Wen Yu could still remember the self satisfaction he felt when the boy first came in.
At this age of superior genes where kids grew quickly and could be as tall as 122cm at just five years, this kid was only 92cm.
Wen Yu smiled, he was around 100cm so he wasn't the shortest around. So comforting. He nodded in approval, he already had a favourable impression of the kid.
"It's so quiet ah. Since we're going to be rooming with each other for a year, if nothing goes wrong, why don't we introduce ourselves and get to know one another?"
The little boy stood up with a bright smile and bowed as he continued, "I'll go first, I'm Huo Lan. Nice to meet all of you."
The boy occupying the bed above Huo Lan sat up. "I'm Fu Beiyong."
"Qi San." Qi San muttered quietly, he didn't look up. He just focused on picking at his nails with a dejected expression.
Wen Yu: '...' I refuse to budge. He looked the other way. Out of sight, out of mind.
"Wen Yu."
Huo Lan's eyes widened. "As in the Wen family? Idol Xie's in-laws?"
Wen Yu shrugged as he laid on his side and balanced his head on one palm. "I suppose so."
Fu Beiyong eyed him distrustfully. "Are you really telling the truth? If you really are from the Wen family aren't you supposed to have an invitation? Why are you in this dorm?"
The other boys stared at him in doubt. Even the attendant boy paused a bit before he continued on with his business.
Wen Yu furrowed his brows slightly. "Of course I have an invitation, how else did I get here?"
"By taking the preliminary exams?" Qi San stated with a look that literally called Wen Yu an idiot.
Wen Yu sat up. "What preliminary exams?"
'....' The other boys were dumbfounded.
Fu Beiyong: "Lingxiu Academy offers preliminary exams to those from commoner families so they get the chance to participate in the enrollment process. This ensures that they get talents that aren't otherwise noticed amongst the common people."
Huo Lan continued with a silly smile, "We're all from commoner families. That's why we were assigned to this dorm. You can't tell me you didn't notice the difference between this dorm and the others?"
Wen Yu grit his teeth as he fished out his invitation letter. When the others saw this they were stunned.
"You really have an invitation, " Fu Beiyong muttered.
Xie Wei Da's smug face immediately crossed Wen Yu's mind but he quickly shook his head. There might have been a mistake. Maybe one of the seniors gave him the wrong card.
There was no way Xie Wei Da would've pulled ranks using his family's influence and do such a thing. He was only five, a kid's heart wouldn't be that vicious...right?
Even he didn't believe himself.
