Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

The two elbows posed on the table, the chin in the hollow of the hand and a broad false smile in the lips, Mia cursed internally her friend to have almost obliged her to attend this kind of speed dating. But could she really blame her when the latter was doing her best to get her out of the long depression in which she had plunged after her ex-fiancée had dumped her at their wedding in front of family, friends and guests three months ago? Oh my God! It had already been three months since she had to endure this painful humiliation and yet in her still bruised heart, it felt like it was yesterday. Nodding to the boring words of her "date" with a smile still frozen on her lips, Mia could see him standing by the altar in his usual confident posture, waiting for her with his usual smug look like a man waiting for his future wife as he was about to stab her in the heart by looking her straight in the eyes. Crossed by an icy current at the evocation of these terrible memories, she closed her eyes briefly before reopening them frightened by the precision with which she visualized the scene in her mind.

- So, according to your file, you are a psychiatrist at the general hospital? Believing he was talking to himself as he had been for the last two hours, Mia didn't answer right away and just smiled at him before his gaze let her know he was waiting for an answer.

- Exactly, I'm a pediatrician. She ended up answering at the risk of hurting his male ego of male; Besides she had no idea of what was the file which he had mentioned but did not seek to know more about it because in any case all that did not matter to him. All she wanted was to leave but she couldn't since it was written in big letters on the sign at the entrance <>. Suddenly, as if moved by a spring, she sat upright in her seat, her mind illuminated by an idea of genius: pretend to have excruciating stomach cramps in order to go out, but her joy was short-lived when she met her friend's determined gaze, who was making it clear to her that she had better keep her nose clean.

Discouraged, she slumped her shoulders hoping that her pseudo-date would not ask her ...

- And why did you choose pediatrics?

Damn, she should have prayed more than usual today. It seemed like all the elements of nature were out to get her!

Smiling to save time, to know how to expedite the answer, she opened her mouth to speak when suddenly everything around her froze. An icy wind ran through the room, plunging them all into a tense atmosphere. Turning around to look in the direction of all eyes, Mia nearly choked on her saliva. And for good reason! In the middle of the room stood a man, a real one, about 190 cm tall, with an imposing muscular mass and an aura as dark as the darkness. The looks of fear and fascination on his face suggested that everyone in the room was afraid. Well, everyone but her. Who was he?
