Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

" We all know your last honeymoon was a disaster and then..."

" Get to the point!" Tristan and I yelled at our parents.

They exchanged glances;" so we decided to give you another chance."

" What do you mean give us another chance?" Tristan asked arrogantly.

" Yeah, what do you mean?" I asked too.

" You're having another honeymoon!!" Four of them screamed out like teenagers.

" Wait, what?!" I and Tristan exclaimed wide-eyed.

You probably would be wondering what's going on in my father's extravagantly built mansion. Let me walk you through.

Charming

I'm Charming Hutz, the only daughter of one of the most influential men in the states. Wherever the name Deon Hutz was pronounced, it was pronounced with respect. Wherever the name Hutz was said, it was adored worship so all my life, I have always been adored and worshipped, just like my father.

I am the only child of my parents. Little wonder they made sure to satisfy every of my wants and desires. Even after graduation from from high school, I never for once bothered to check out my father's companies and my parents never bothered me.

Everything in my life was perfect; lovely parents, perfect financial and social status, amazing best friend and perfect skin. Just everything was perfect until Thanksgiving last year.

Usually, my parents and I would celebrate Thanksgiving, gifting and visiting orphanage homes. Charity was our family's middle name so whenever we had a chance to give, we always did it in excess. My mother never for once gave me a chance to be arrogant nor did my father.

A lot of middle class haters always see me as an egocentric, cocky, spoiled brat but in truth, I'm just a wild giver.

So it was Thanksgiving day and this time, we chose to visit the hospital. My favourite part of the hospital is the baby room; gosh! It always got me excited and sad too. It's no fun being the only child. I was excited for today.

I dressed up in my crazy black jeans with a purple tank top. Leaving my room, I threw a black denim jacket over my tank top. I grabbed my cross bag and jolted to the dining area.

" Good morning Mommy, good morning Daddy." I greeted my parents, placing soft kisses on their heads before I joined them at the dining table.

" Good morning princess." My dad replied.

" Good morning dearest." My mom too.

" I am so excited for our visit to the hospital today." I almost yelled out as I grabbed the large pile of pancakes.

" You're cooking is the best mommy. You should start your own cook show, don't you think?" I advised my mom, moaning while chewing her pancakes.

" She's right hunny." My dad agreed.

" Sorry to disappoint but my cooking is specially meant for my babies alone." She said playfully pulling I and my dad's cheeks.

" Awwn, you're the best mommy." I said to her, earning a sweet smile from my mom, and a fake cough from my dad.

I chuckled; " You too Daddy."

I kept on eating until I noticed the weird atmosphere in the dining area. I looked up to find my parents staring at me.

" Is something wrong?" I asked them.

" No love, we uhm.." My dad stammered.

" I think you should tell her." I heard my dad whisper to my mom.

I chuckled nervously;" You know I heard that right?"

" No, you tell her. You're closer to her than I am." My mom argued with my dad, still whispering.

" Can someone explain the reason for the whisperings?" I was getting nervous by the minute.

" Sorry about that baby, it was nothing. There's nothing to be bothered about." My dad said, putting on a fake smile.

" Actually Charm, what you're father meant to say was that we have dinner tonight with another family" My mom said, nudging my father with her elbow.

" Wait, you both were acting like that, getting me all tensed up because we would be celebrating this year's Thanksgiving with another family?" I asked, stunned at their childishness.

" You're not mad?" My father asked.

" No, of course not. There's no reason to be." I replied him, returning back to munching on my pancakes.

" It's gonna be dinner so you might want to reserve some space in your stomach." My mother advised.

I laughed; " I will mommy."

The rest of the breakfast was filled with laughter. We argued over mom's choice of wigs and Dad's weird fashion style. We also laughed at me when I drooled at the sight of Mom's desert. I really can't wait to be this perfect in cooking.

Later that day***

" Hello girlfriend!" I heard my best friend scream once I opened the door to my room.

" Tomika!!" I screamed too, jumping on her.

"Hmm, you're squeezing me, not hugging." She complained but I tightened my squeeze.

" Charming!" She yelled out.

I laughed childishly; at least that's what she always says about my laughter; " Sorry about that, I just really missed you."

Tomika wasn't a teenager like me in fact, she was over twenty, with a degree she got from make-up school. My best friend is the city's most attractive make-up artist. She was really pretty but still, I was prettier.

" I know you did but I'm back now ain't I?"

" Yes you are."

We stared at each other for a while before laughing.

" Stop staring at me like that Tomika. It's weird."

" Sorry about that. I was just wondering if you look this ravishing without make-up, how well would you look with make-up on?"

"What do you mean by that Tom? You know I don't wear make-up." I was confused; in all our years of friendship, she never asked me that.

" You're parents called me last night, saying you had an important dinner meeting with someone today and you had to look you're best." She explained.

" Wait, Mom and Dad called you to doll me up for a Thanksgiving celebration with another family? "

" I think so."

" You know, my parents could be so over dramatic. For goodness sakes, this is just a mere dinner." I couldn't believe my parents.

"Well, you're their only love. What do you expect?"

Tomika was right, they only want the best for me.

" Well what are you waiting for? Take it away." I said to Tomika dramatically earning a laugh from her.

*****************

" Wow baby! You look so amazing. "

" Nice job Tom."

My Mom and Dad complemented both I and Tomika once we descended the shiny grand stairs.

" Thanks Mommy, thank you Daddy."

" Thank you Mr and Mrs Hutz; it's an honor."

We both replied them. It was quite difficult for me to move freely in the cleavage exposing ankle length green silk gown that Tomika had prepared for me. I couldn't even breathe properly too because of the big box of sprays she emptied on my hair. It was a shiny straight piece of art work. The gown made me conscious of my neatly carved out curves.

Severally, she slapped my hands away from my face when I attempted touching it; " Hey, quite that!"

We had taken a different limousine from my parents's. I guess the couple wanted their own private time.

" Not until you quite that." She retorted.

I simply folded my legs without replying her. I secretly admired the silver heels she had made me wear. As a matter of fact, I never even had an idea that I owned such beautiful shoes.

" I know you like them, it wouldn't hurt to say thank you."

That's a flaw I possessed that I was very conscious of. I almost never accepted favours from people because of this. I just couldn't say thank you to anyone that wasn't my Mom nor my Dad.

Writer's POV

The two limousines pulled up at the entrance of an event hall. The outer decorations passed the message of wealth and affluence. The music coming from within the hall was so cool, people of a lower class might not find any interest in it. Only the rich could relate.

Mr and Mrs Hutz were the first to leave their limousine. They walked briskly into the hall. Their relationship with the family who was hosting the event made it possible for them to get in without invitation cards.

Charming on the other hand walked in with her best friend just immediately after her parents had walked in.

" Damn it." Charming cussed.

" Language young lady." Tomika corrected.

" I really need to use the Lulu." Charming was getting uncomfortable.

" Seriously Charm, you still say that?" Tomika couldn't get over the fact that her best friend found saying toilet embarrassing and not Lulu.

" Whatever." Charming left her friend in search of the toilet.

She spotted an isolated part of the hall so she decided to check it out. It could be the toilet for all she cared.

As she made her way to the area, she bumped into something or rather, someone.

" What the fuck?" The deep voice of the man she had bumped into vibrated on the walls. She had mistakenly spilled her drink on his White suite.

" It's no big deal dude. It's gonna wash off." She said to him.

" How would you know that?" He asked angrily.

He was a tall man; extremely handsome, his perfectly chilseled jaw making him look even more handsome. The way the dimly lit light reflected on his face gave him a devilish look.

" Stop gawking." He said arrogantly.

" I wasn't and yes, I know it would wash off. You would know that if you did your laundry." Charming said, her cheeks burning red from embarrassment.

" Firstly, I'm not clumsy so I don't go around spilling drinks on myself and secondly, I'm not a pauper. Only paupers do their laundries themselves." He said before walking out on Charming.

Charming

Wait, did that dude just call Charming Hutz a pauper?
